Monday with the Shanleys

Since I’ve been rushing through these last generations of my Legacy Challenge family, I decided to do a slightly different kind of post tonight. I played for a bit last night but let the Shanleys go through a full day — well, almost a full day — completely autonomous. Yes, I stopped being an evil Sim dictator for awhile and just let the Shanleys do whatever they wanted. And every hour or so I snapped a picture of whoever was doing something mildly interesting. “Interesting” being relative because most of the things Sims do on a daily basis are pretty darned mundane!

Anyway, without further ado, I bring you…Monday with the Shanleys!

Scottie makes her bed
6:07 AM
In the half-dark of early morning, little Scottie Shanley is already wide awake and making her bed. She has taken over her mother’s old bedroom and seems pleased with its orangeness. She especially likes to make the bed, then jump on it for hours on end, just as her great uncle Tristan did when he was a boy.

Those Crazy Shanleys

Hey folks! It has been snowing since last night and shows no signs of letting up, so I get to stay home all day and play my Legacy Challenge family, huzzah. But first, a loooong update! Also, just for kicks I took pictures of my frontyard (you can see the house across the street but…no street) and backyard buried in white stuff. It’s beautiful and serene and everything, but part of me would much rather be here. Ah well.

On Friday I asked you guys to vote for which bartender my 7G heir Tebbany should marry. Gary Hiatt won over Goopy Zhang, 14-9. I have to say I was a bit relieved, because I’m not fond of the name Goopy, either. I think I would have had to name him something else, at least for blogging purposes. :-) So now that Tebby’s future hubby had been decided, it was time to wait out her teenage years. In the meantime the Shanley family went about their business.

“Just look at this motley crew! What has my legacy come to?”

After the death of his wife Marie, Pao settled in comfortably into life at Shanley Manor, even though he wasn’t blood-related to any of its inhabitants. Due to his excellent cooking and cleaning skills, he became indispensable, especially in a house with three extremely messy Sims. In the pic above, the family (minus Tebby and Cort) partake of Pao’s omelette breakfast while the Legacy founder, Nia, looks on.

And All That Jazz

I stayed up wayyyy too late playing my Legacy family tonight, and I really shouldn’t be posting since it’s way past my bedtime, but I figured what the heck. Tomorrow’s Friday, I can sleep in on Saturday. ;-) That said, let’s jump right in.

In my last Legacy Challenge update, my 6G heir Vesta got a stepfather, Mr. Pao Mellon, and gave birth to a baby boy named Cort. Her other kid, a girl named Tebbany, aged from toddler to child and gleefully started going to school despite being extremely lazy and sloppy. Well, I’m not sure about the gleefully part, but she didn’t seem to mind it. A few days into Tebbany’s childhood, the ghost of her grandfather Patrick appeared in her bedroom and gave her some advice.

Tebbany is scared by Patrick
“Get good grades in school, or ELSE!”

The ghosts have been on a rampage lately. Maybe it just seems that way because I have so many gravestones on the lot now (7-8). But there are hauntings every night, and it’s getting old. It takes me forever just to get through one night because everyone keeps waking up. And yes, sometimes the ghosts haunt all three floors. Ghosts, begone!

Two New Shanleys

In the last Legacy Challenge update, my G6 heir, Vesta, married Kenneth the grocery delivery guy. After the honeymoon, woohoo ensued, and Shanley Manor was finally graced with the birth of Generation 7 when little Tebbany was born. Meanwhile all of the Romance Sims in the house were still romancin’. One in particular, the widow Marie, was nearing the last days of her life and longed for someone with whom she could spend her remaining time on earth.

Actually, she just wanted to flirt with her many boyfriends, but I knew what was best for her. I knew she really needed to settle down with one special man. And that man was Pao Mellon.

Marie kisses Pao

Why Pao? Well, he was one of her original boyfriends from way back when she first started cheating on her dearly departed husband Patrick. And…well, this is the main reason — he’s a Popularity Sim. There’s more than one way to skin a cat, or in this case, more than one way to get that durned platinum Popularity gravestone. And I figured this would be the easiest way.

Late Night Legacy

I played my Legacy family a bit tonight, but it’s too close to my bedtime to post an update (unfortunately it takes me 2-3 hours to do one post :-(), so I decided to save it for tomorrow night. In lieu of that update I thought I’d post my current Legacy Challenge scorecard. (If you want to compare it to my last scorecard post, you can look here.)

I usually post a family tree with the scorecard, but since I’m using Tribal Pages now, you can click here to see Tebbany’s ancestry. I really like that particular layout; it’s easy to follow.

Total Points: 36

Score Breakdown
Generations: 7
Family net worth: §495, 650 (5 pts)
Platinum graves: 6
Family friends: 17 (5 pts)
Impossible Wants: 6 (Bree, Leo, Liam, Taryn, Fiona, Robi)
Shrink Visits: -3 (Nia, Sheldon, and Fiona)
NPCs in bloodline: 6 (Mailman, Gardener, Maid, Exterminator, Pizza Delivery Person, Grocery Delivery Person)
Career Reward Objects: 2pts for a full set (I finally got them all!)
Ghosts: White, pink (2 pts)
Ghosts free to roam: 2 point bonus
Visitor death penalty: 0
Alien births: 0
Children, toddlers, infants taken by social worker: -2 pts
10th gen twins: 0
Platinum graves of all 5 aspirations: 0

I am guessing I’ll have around 50 points when I’m done with the Challenge (barring any major bugs or computer disasters, knock on wood!!), which is good but below average compared to others who have finished so far. It’s fun to keep score (I have a competitive streak, I have to admit), but I think I’ll just be happy to make it to 10th gen.

13 days until the expansion pack! Are you ready for some wild college Sims?

The Initiation of Kenneth

I was going to race home from work and boot up the Sims tonight (yes, I’m pathetic), but thought I should post an update first. I always take five million pictures when I play, and if I wait too long between playing and posting, I forget why I took them. So here we go! (Don’t worry, I’ve whittled the five million pictures down to a more manageable 16).

In the last update, Vesta gave up the hunt for Mr. Popularity and decided instead to propose to Kenneth Lillard. Well, the wedding was to occur the very next evening. Kenneth spent most of that next day chatting with Vesta’s great aunt Taryn, who stopped by and asked why she hadn’t been sent an invitation. (Actually, Arcadia Bradshaw brought her over.)

Kenneth talks to Taryn
“What do you mean you haven’t memorized the family tree yet?”

The Man in Blue

As I mentioned in my last post, I hoped to get my 6th gen heir, Vesta, married off to a Popularity Sim because I need a platinum Popularity headstone. After checking the NPC database in the TS2 Classic Legacy Yahoo! Group, I found two possibilities: Waylon Fairchild (Repairman) and Stuart Andrews (Grocery Delivery). I’ve seen Waylon in my neighborhood before and considered trying for him, but thought it might be more interesting to find someone I had never heard of. So I began the hunt for Mr. Andrews.

It begins
“Ah, the work of an heir is never done…”

It proved to be a little mini-challenge in itself. With NPCs like bartenders and repairmen, you can look at the picture when they answer the phone and say “No” if it’s not the person you want. Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way for grocery delivery. They ask you how much you’d like to purchase, then tell you someone will be on the way. They show a picture but it doesn’t always match with who eventually shows up. The first time I called, I knew the usual grocery delivery guy, Stephan Gothier, would show up. I had Marie make friends with him while Vesta called for more groceries. Since Stephan was already at the house, they had to send someone new. It turned out to be Marylena Hamilton. I had Tristan invite her to play video games so Vesta could try calling again.

Shanley Manor for Download

Hey folks, I finally put Shanley Manor up for download from the Sims 2 Exchange. There are two versions — one is fully furnished and contains quite a bit of custom content — mostly recolors, but also some wallpaper and ground textures. I tried to use the Sims2Pack Clean Installer to remove the custom content, but I couldn’t get it to work properly. So I apologize for that! If you have the Clean Installer and know how to use it, you can (I believe) remove the custom content from my lots before you install them.

The second version of the lot is unfurnished. It has much less custom content and is one-tenth the size of the furnished lot. Here are link to the lots on the exchange:

Shanley Manor – Fully Furnished (40.09 MB)

Shanley Manor – Unfurnished (4.77 MB)

By the way, both lots are from the Shanley Manor of a few weeks ago, around the time I posted the Tour of Shanley Manor, so they don’t have my recent redecorating or the new lap pool. Enjoy!

UPDATE: I forgot I had taken a picture of the kitchen in the unfurnished version just because it was so weird to see the house virtually empty. I’m used to it being a hub of activity, with Sims buzzing to and fro (not to mention the flies on the plates). You can also see the faintly green glowing residue left over from a deleted thinking cap. Heh. Anyway, just thought I would share the pic — you can also see that I left the counters and appliances in the kitchen.
