The Man in Blue

As I mentioned in my last post, I hoped to get my 6th gen heir, Vesta, married off to a Popularity Sim because I need a platinum Popularity headstone. After checking the NPC database in the TS2 Classic Legacy Yahoo! Group, I found two possibilities: Waylon Fairchild (Repairman) and Stuart Andrews (Grocery Delivery). I’ve seen Waylon in my neighborhood before and considered trying for him, but thought it might be more interesting to find someone I had never heard of. So I began the hunt for Mr. Andrews.

It begins
“Ah, the work of an heir is never done…”

It proved to be a little mini-challenge in itself. With NPCs like bartenders and repairmen, you can look at the picture when they answer the phone and say “No” if it’s not the person you want. Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way for grocery delivery. They ask you how much you’d like to purchase, then tell you someone will be on the way. They show a picture but it doesn’t always match with who eventually shows up. The first time I called, I knew the usual grocery delivery guy, Stephan Gothier, would show up. I had Marie make friends with him while Vesta called for more groceries. Since Stephan was already at the house, they had to send someone new. It turned out to be Marylena Hamilton. I had Tristan invite her to play video games so Vesta could try calling again.

They don’t stay too terribly long after deliverying your groceries, so eventually Stephan and Marylena left. Someone named Scott Perry showed up to deliver the third batch of groceries. While he was there, I called again, and someone named Ricky Howe arrived. D’oh! I was getting a little dismayed at no sign of Stuart Andrews, but I was determined. I wanted to see if I could get this guy to show up. So I had Vesta spend most of the next day on the phone becoming friendly with Marylena and Scott. Marie played piano until she was done, then called up Stephan and Ricky. My plan was to invite all of them over, then call for groceries.

Vesta becomes acquainted
“Is my ear permanently affixed to the phone yet?”

In the meantime, Stefaan was becoming better acquainted with Ericka the Gardener. She hadn’t thought much of him at first, but after Stefaan chanced a flirtation, she seemed more interested.

Ericka and Stefaan hug
“You know, I get so used to seeing people make out that I don’t even notice it anymore.”

Poor Vesta got the fright of her young life one night when the ghost of her grandmother Fiona popped out of the microwave.

Fiona scares Vesta
“Haha! Scared ya, didn’t I?”

Marie turned 54 and ended up in Fiona’s clothes. Since she was in the living room between a couch and a coffee table, everyone lined up to cheer her on.

Marie grows old
“OK, everybody…conga line!”

Immediately afterwards they started dancing with one another, a rarity in Shanley Manor.

Dance fever
“I…had…the time of my li-i-ife…”

Tristan and Vesta became best friends while Tristan was giving her a noogie. It’s funny, but I’ve only seen brothers do this to sisters, never the other way around. Brothers are such a pain! Vesta didn’t like the noogie, either.

Tristan noogies Vesta
“Tristan, you’re lucky I don’t know kung fu…”

  1. “There’s more where this came from if you know where I can find Stuart Andrews.” I LAUGHED OUT LOUD when I read that.
Vesta’s a cute sim. I wonder how Kenneth and her baby will turn out like…

  2. Hehehe…cute story. I had to laugh at the Delivery person convention you had going. LOL! Hey Ken is kinda cute for a sim. Vesta did well in choosing. Maybe studying cleanign will help in his sloppyness too.
    Have a great sunday. :)

  3. Oh! I love it! I’ve never heard of all those delivery people before! (Now we’re even!) It’s so weird how there’s so many different dilivery people. I never knew. I thought there were only about three… anyways, that picture made me crack up so much! (The one with all the delivery people)

Kenneth is really good looking for an NPC, but I did realize that most pizza delivery, grocery delivery, and firemen are cute. It’s weird but they look better than the townies Maxis generates…

Great job, I love your stories. I absolutely can’t wait until the next one! :)

  4. Hi Jen. Great update. I was wondering why you didn’t have other sims call the delivery people? Did it have to be Vesta? I thought that as long as she greeted them it counted. You got 2 more tries to get that popularity sim. And you never know your 7th generation may give birth to a popularity sim. That would work right?
Well good luck. Can’t wait to see the wedding and the pitter patter of little feet in the Shanley house again.

  5. I love your story! I am so amused by the delivery person saga. My daughter loves your house! Thanks for putting it up for download. :)

  6. Great update Jen! I loved all the quotes. Especially the ones on the 2nd page. You had me laughing out loud throughout that entire page. Congrats with Vesta! I can’t wait to see more!

  7. Fantastic update!
Thanks for uploading both versions of Shanley Manor , my 14 yr old daughter wanted one for her game also. Never knew about all those delivery folks.

  8. Thanks for the comments! I had fun with my grocery deliverers’ convention. I think I figured out what was going on, too, and why I will never find Stuart Andrews — it was randomly generating brand new NPCs when I would call. The game would freeze for a bit, like it does when a new baby arrives. And Ricky Howe, Scott Perry, Kenneth Lillard, and April Hutchins are not listed in the NPC database on the Legacy Yahoo! Group, which leads me to think they’re not the “usual” grocery delivery people for anyone else. I don’t think I would have ever gotten Stuart — either he was randomly generated in the same fashion by someone else who was doing the same thing, or he just belongs to a different neighborhood, and I didn’t get him when I created Mt. Geneva. But no matter, I already have another plan to get that Popularity headstone! :-D

  9. great update. lol… I love the Grocery Guys (and girls) convention! It was such a funny picture. lol.. Kenneath sure looks like the Ken dool though, now he looks a bit like my legacy founder except with darker skin… guess it’s just the hair. looking forward to a G6 wedding!

  10. Hi Jen! :)

Sorry about the delivery trouble, but I’ve got a feeling the Shanley refridgerator won’t need to be restocked for a looong time!
I noticed that the NPCs seem to be more handsome than the townies. It’s strange, they go into clothes shops with a mirror and never change their appearence or buy things. I’m talking about the Townies, of course!
I think I had a glitch with the Elixir the other day – the Sim was at the halfway point and she still got the extra three days. Weird.
    Bye!

  11. Hi, great update again. I was cracked up by Marie playing piano thinking about love in the background. It could have been unintentional, but it was so funny I sprayed coffee all over my keyboard (it’s dry and OK now). She must have been putting a lot of emotions into her playing!
The conga line reminded me of the teens in V-formation. And the convention …I could have destroyed my computer if I hadn’t been warned. You have this uncanny knack of capturing these priceless moments and giving the right captions!

  12. Mary – I forgot to answer your question! I had Vesta calling the delivery people because Marie and Stefaan were either working or sleeping or fulfilling various other needs much of the time. Tristan and Vesta worked in tandem — she’d call, he’d greet and get the groceries, she’d tip and chat. I think Tristan might have called a few times, too. But since she was the one who tipped and chatted, she was acquainted with them and had to call them in order to raise the relationship score to in “invitable” range. Hope that makes sense. Anyway, it was really Vesta’s “mission” to find her future husband, so that’s why I referred to it that way in the update. Good question, though!
