And All That Jazz

I stayed up wayyyy too late playing my Legacy family tonight, and I really shouldn’t be posting since it’s way past my bedtime, but I figured what the heck. Tomorrow’s Friday, I can sleep in on Saturday. ;-) That said, let’s jump right in.

In my last Legacy Challenge update, my 6G heir Vesta got a stepfather, Mr. Pao Mellon, and gave birth to a baby boy named Cort. Her other kid, a girl named Tebbany, aged from toddler to child and gleefully started going to school despite being extremely lazy and sloppy. Well, I’m not sure about the gleefully part, but she didn’t seem to mind it. A few days into Tebbany’s childhood, the ghost of her grandfather Patrick appeared in her bedroom and gave her some advice.

Tebbany is scared by Patrick
“Get good grades in school, or ELSE!”

The ghosts have been on a rampage lately. Maybe it just seems that way because I have so many gravestones on the lot now (7-8). But there are hauntings every night, and it’s getting old. It takes me forever just to get through one night because everyone keeps waking up. And yes, sometimes the ghosts haunt all three floors. Ghosts, begone!

Soon to be a ghost herself, Patrick’s widow Marie decided that she wanted to die happy, and the best way to achieve that would be through good old-fashioned woohoo. In the hot tub. With a guy named Lenny. Thankfully her husband Pao was at work (he finally got a job as the Vice President of some nameless company). Neighbor lady Orella Shack got an eyeful, though.

Woohoo in the hot tub
“What exactly is going on in there?”

Shortly after Pao returned from work (Lenny had split the scene by then), the Grim Reaper appeared to take Marie to the great luau in the sky. Everyone gathered in the gallery to sniff and blubber. (Except for Vesta, who just smiled. I think she cried later, though.)

The Reaper takes Marie
“Wait…did I forget to pack my deodorant?”

This is where all heck broke loose. Well, a little heck, anyway. Pao had a fear of Marie dying, and he was only in green, so he suffered major aspiration failure. Woops. I forgot to check everyone before she died. Since the Sim Shrink showed up for Pao, I lost a point. It’s kind of a bummer when you work so hard for that platinum tombstone, worth one point, only to lose a point elsewhere because you weren’t really paying attention. D’oh!

Pao and the Shrink
“Repeat after me, Mr. Shanley: ‘I am not a chimpanzee.'”

When I moved Marie’s lovely platinum urn out to the family cemetery, I noticed that one gravestone was missing! It turned out to be Kiara’s Fortune marker. Dah! I’ve heard about this happening to other people — sometimes when ghosts jump back into the tombstones after a haunting, the tombstone will inexplicably disappear. I don’t know if it’s a bug or just a really unfortunate aspect of the game. I’m not sure if I can count that platinum headstone now or not. I think I can, because I did have it once, and I didn’t delete it myself. Ah well.

*chains rattling, wind howling*

Finally it was time for Cort to become a child! I forgot to take a picture of him turning from baby to toddler, so here’s one of his mom holding him before he blew out his candles.

Cort as a toddler
“You’re cute, kid, but I’m glad I won’t have to live in the nursery anymore.”

Here’s Cort as a child. I gave him the longish hair for a change of pace. I’m so glad he’s not a clone of his sister! Well, at least not in looks. They have almost the exactly same personality except that Cort has 1 more point in Active. It’s not enough to worry about, so Tebby will still be the heir.

Cort as a child
“You can call me ‘Mowgli’.”

This is just one of those “awww” pictures that I took for no real reason. I thought the kids looked cute having breakfast with their mom. I love how these sloppy kids sort of grip the cereal bowls in their teeth and shovel everything in. Heehee.

Breakfast with the kids
“So you gonna have another baby, Mom?”

Now that Cort was a child, I invited the headmaster over for dinner and a tour. Instead of disappearing as he has sometimes done in the past, he simply refused to come to the table for dinner. The “Entertain – Call to dinner” interaction just plain disappeared from his pie menu, even though the salmon was sitting there on the table, waiting for him. I even got a message saying “You’d better think about feeding the headmaster; his stomach is growling” or something like that. Well, eventually he found his own way to the table (after taking a detour through the hot tub), ate the salmon, and accepted the kids into private school. Woo!

  1. Hi Jen.
I vote for Gary. I haven’t heard you say that someone has painted a portrait of your heir Vesta.. *little reminder*
Tebbany is so pretty. I think Juan is the worst … he so wierd looking.. like a monkey.. his face I mean. :)
Thanks for the update.. Great job!

  2. Wonderful update yet again, jen! I think Tebbany should marry Gary! He’s acctually hot compared to the other two. I think Goopy is okay, too. Depends on what you want! I would love to see a red haired Shanley!

Tebbany turned out really nice. She’s so pretty! I love the caption under the schoolbus picture, it’s so cute! -reads it over and over again- Great job! Keep it up, Jen!

  3. I vote for Gary. He’s the best looking of the three, although Goopy might not be so bad and he would add in the red hair genes. But Gary also has really nice cheekbones! :D

  4. I agree with everyone else, Gary is the best looking out of all of them, I think it’s his lips…they are happier I guess. If you pick one of the other two…well I hate the name Goopy and Juan is just eww. ;) lol Good Luck.

  5. Mary – I was just thinking last night that I need to get Vesta’s portrait painted! LOL. Thanks for the reminder. I was hoping to get Tristan’s creativity maxed so he could paint it (he likes to paint anyway), but I’ve been forcing him to stargaze so much that he hasn’t been painting much lately. I gotta work on that. :-)

So far it’s a unanimous vote for Gary to become Tebby’s hubby, but I’ll wait until 5:00 PM CST before I officially count the votes. Thanks for the comments, everyone!!

  6. mm… A bit hard to decided. lol.. for starters I usually dislike sims with thick lips. But to me, Goopy seems to have the most well proportioend face lol… But since Gacy is such a popular choice I don’t mind :p

But Tebby looks so pretty as a teen! her hair style definately suits her^^

  7. I vote for the Goopy guy. I also think the red hair would make for interesting genetics. Although Gary is not so bad either. Both are fine.Ick on the last one! LOL!

  8. Hi Jen!
I like Goopy and Gary – I’ve had Juan in my game (or a Bartender who looks like him)and he kept insulting people.
I’ve got this Nanny in a house who seems to have moved in, though I can control her. I built a hut with a bed and no door to keep her in, but has anyone got an idea of how I can get rid of her?
    Bye!
    E-Liz :)

  9. I’ll give a vote for Goopy too, I like his hair. Juan is one of the weirdest looking sims I’ve seen, and he’s not even randomly generated! On the other hand, I’m pretty sure he’s a Knowledge sim (possibly Family), which is certainly a plus if you can get past the weird face.

  10. Hi Jen – reading your blog always brings such a smile to my face. I’ve gotten a little behind because of my busy schedule but am catching up. Cort is adorable and Marie’s little fling before death, just cracked me up.

  11. I don’t like any of the bartenders, actually. o.o; I can’t decide who to torture Tebby with.

  12. Well, Gary is awfully cute.. but so is Goopy. (Too bad about the name, though.) Of course, I’m partial to redheads since I am one in real life. :)

  13. Hey – reading and following your Legacy challenge since Christmas (I LOVE it and I’m thoroughly addicted to it) and now FINALLY also giving a comment :) – as you asked which of those bartenders should become tebby’s husband, I’d go from top to bottom – so most favorably Gary (black hair would be too cool!). The others, especially Juan (a BLONDE Juan?!) – no go. Tebbany turned out very beautiful indeed – and I like that change in hairstyle! Greetings, Eva (from icy cold Frankfurt, Germany :)

  14. P.S. – and I am extremely fond of naming and all (yes, also in real-life ;)) – so I would looove to give some suggestions for future names that have long since been on my mind for your Shanleys: I’d adore Damian, Maya, Cleo (feminine), Gwen(dolyn), Fynn (or Fionn), Arthur, Max, Lewis, Sienna/Sianna, Zoe, Alana/Alanna (courtesy to Tamora Pierce ), Ava, Nora…. oh, I love naming babies :) – okay, that was just… a note *lol* – greets!

  15. Hi Eva, and thanks for your comments! I love those names (I actually used Zoe and Arthur in other Sims houses), so I’ll definitely add them to the list. I’m fond of naming, too, but it’s nice to have a smaller pool to choose from when I’m scrambling to name the latest kid. :-) It’s icy cold here in Minnesota, too! Brrrrr. Stay warm!

  16. Hey Jen! I wish I could have a family as good as yours! I vote for Goopy because he is mean and I recall that none of your Shanleys are mean and he has red hair and he is the cutest of them all! Have a good time with your Shanleys!

  17. Hey its me again. I just wanted to see if you could give me any suggestions for baby names? I recently named 2 babies Titus Ray and Alfalfa! Weird I know! I was just playing around. I want to see more of your christmas in the city movies soon! Keep up the good work Jen!

  18. Wow, there’s so many comments! ;-)
I think Gary is pretty good looking, but I really like Goopy. Red hair would be a definite change, I think more than black. Plus, red is dominent, so you’ll definitely get red hair. I like Goopy’s facial structure better anyways. That’s just my opinion. Hopefully it’s not too late to suggest that.
By the way, Tebby’s really pretty! I like her hairstyle a lot. Cort’s is cute too. Keep up the great work!

  19. Voting time, eh? Hmmm…*thinks very hard* I do believe that Tebby should marry Gary Hiatt. I think it’d be pretty nice to have some skin color variation. Who knows…they could carry that down to from gen to gen and have the 11G child be black-skinned. Teehee! Good luck XD

  20. I say Gary, you don’t want a nasty sim and Juan is just… well, look at his mouth! I’m terrible, I read your blog all the time but never comment, dunno why really, just lazy. But I shall turn over a new leaf and reply and tell you how fab your stories are! Huzzah! Oh and also, I thought of a caption for the picture with the headmaster:
“Okay Teb, I’ll be your best friend but only if you beat me in this game!”
    I know, it’s terrible, but I’m very sleepy…

  21. Me again, I just thought of a name you could have if you were stuck for one. Holly or Niamh for a girl (pronounced Nieve for those who don’t know) and maybe Caleb for a boy. You probably have loads of names you could use, but I thought I’d pitch them to you, just in case :D

  22. Thanks everyone for voting, and a hearty hello to all the new commenters! I tallied up the votes, and Gary wins over Goopy 14-9. Juan didn’t even get one vote — I thought someone might vote for him just to be sadistic, but you guys are all too nice. ;-)

So voting has closed. Gary will Tebby’s future husband, provided they get along OK with each other! Thanks again to everyone for all the kind comments!! :-D

And Helen, thanks for the caption and the name suggestions! I’ll add them to my list. :-)

  23. Haha, poor Juan. So misunderstood. :p I don’t know, something about Gary looks a little wrong to me… I think it’s the way his cheeks kind of fold inwards… Plus he has a huge nose. But I suppose the best man won, so congrats to him! :p

  24. Thanks Jen! I feel so useful! ^_^ And yay for Gary! Not so much Tabby, I feel she could do better ;)

  25. Juan, definetely! I had one of my sims (Vanessa) marry him, he is the NICEST sim EVER, very romantic, and he makes beautiful children! (Donovan & Chelsea)
