Triple Trouble: Round 3

Hey all! I’m happy to report that I made it to Round 3 of Triple Trouble! I was amazed and honored that I made it through, but I gotta say I had some trouble with this round’s theme. We had to do the triplets’ nursery and playroom in a shabby chic style, which proved to be extra challenging because you can’t have things be too shabby in a kids’ room — peeling paint and little kids just don’t go well together! Plus when I think “shabby chic”, I think of pastel colors, frills, ruffles, florals — girly stuff. Since one of the triplets is a boy, I wanted to aim for something a little more gender-neutral. So it’s a bit like taking the shabby and the chic out of shabby chic!

Anyway, I ended up going for the “vintage” aspect of shabby chic, and settled on a vintage hot air balloon theme. Once I had this theme in mind, it ended up being fun, but I have no idea if it fits with the required style anymore. Heh. I guess we’ll see what happens! Here are some extra pics — I took a ton because I just wasn’t getting what I wanted. :-p (You can see the shots I submitted for my entry here — and check out the other entries while you’re at it — they’re all so beautiful and creative!)

  1. So glad you posted these here so I can go all fangirly on you again and protect my reputation on the forum ;-)

I don’t know if this is shabby chic or more chic than shabby or whatever the heck we were supposed to do in that round but I don’t care because I love your room! I’ve loved all your rooms and if you don’t win this thing, I’ll be planning some kind of revolt against the judges ;-)

    Good luck!

    • Thanks so much, Dee! I absolutely love your design style and your wonderful picture-taking ability, so that means a lot!

  2. Your rooms are always stunning. I looked at the other entries for Round 3. Ninja Unicorn’s room is beautiful too. Sixtyten’s is stunning also. Love the attention to detail Protectron did.

But honestly, I think yours nailed the feel of shabby chic for kids perfectly. It looks like something I’d see on that HGTV show, Sarah’s Home, or whatever it’s called. Everything works, it’s great for kids, but it’s classic enough that it’s something they can grow into. :D Change out the furniture and get rid of some of the toys and those rooms are great for teens as well as toddlers and children.

In my personal opinion, I think only Speechless’ room gives yours a run for your money, of the ones that have been posted so far. It’s another room that nailed the shabby chic and isn’t too “Ooo, you’re a little kid!” but a room they can grow into nicely.

Too often people think “shabby chic” is just distressed/worn out stuff, but that’s not the case at all.

    • Wow, thanks, Aer! I’m so glad you liked it. I was really nervous that it wasn’t shabby chic enough, so I’m happy that I made it through. It’s tough because if you google “shabby chic nursery”, you see a wide range of colors and patterns — I didn’t know what the judges would be looking for!

  3. What is “shabby chic” anyway? I’m so not on the decorating/fashion scene. :”> But all of that aside, I love your rooms. As always!

Aside from yours, I like the rooms of speechless and Protectron. :)

  4. Jen, I’m a huge fan of yours. I love the colours you use, the fabrics and textures and of course the design. This nursery is so beautiful. Just perfect for three babies. Your entries so far have been absolutely outstanding.

    • Thanks so much, peachbird! I’ve been truly enjoying your lovely pics on Living Sims! The renovation idea was superb :)

  5. I really love all your entries so far. I’m sort of glad I didn’t make it past round one for I wouldn’t be able to compete against you!! Lol

  6. I fell head over heels in love with your nursery when I saw it Jen. I really have no fondness for shabby chic as a rule, most people interpret it to mean *tatty* rather than *shabby*. For me – you got this style absolutely spot on and have made a convert of me.

    • That’s a huge compliment coming from you, Lily — thank you so much! I still feel like I didn’t get shabby chic quite right (and the scores probably reflect that) but I’m so glad you liked it!

  7. Yet another good decoration effort, hope you get to the new round. The nursery is amazing.

    • Thanks, ani_! I’ve been enjoying the contest, but it’ll be nice to get back to Simming when it’s done! I’ve been getting behind on all the blogs! :(

  8. I absolutely drooled over this entry of yours, so different, so beautiful and the idea of balloons is so creative and different. Your decorating is amazing and we all know you will most likely win as you so deserve it ! :)

    • Oh geez, thank you so much, Speechless, but it’s really anybody’s game! I thought your nursery was fantastic, and I think you totally nailed the shabby chic style. I can’t wait to see your Round 4 entry!

  9. wow.
this is amazing jen! i’m a bit speachless right now, it’s just so beautiful.

    • Hi Victoria! Long time no see! :) Thanks for your lovely comment — it’s great to hear from someone who actually remembers the Braytons! LOL. Hope you’re having fun with Sims 3! I have to get to bed right now before my head falls onto my keyboard, but I’m sending myself a note to check out your blog tomorrow — I’m excited to check it out!

  10. Love it! I totally love the coloring and the layering of all these textures. It all looks so comfy! I want a room like that in my house!
