Triple Trouble: Round 4

Huzzah, I made it to the fourth and final round of Triple Trouble! For this last challenge, we had to do the kitchen and dining room in a Tuscan Country style. I had a lot of fun with this round as I’ve always wanted to visit Tuscany (and Italy in general!). I tried to keep a rustic, country feel while still designing a kitchen that would meet the needs of a large, modern family (especially one that has a couple of Natural Cooks in it).

By the way, thanks for all of your kind comments on my past entries — it really means a lot. I feel like my decorating has grown by leaps and bounds since I joined the Living Sims forum — it’s a very inspiring place. Anyway, here are some extra pics from my entry (you can see my official contest pics here):

  1. I’m so in awe of your decorating! I’ve “pinned” this to my Pinterest page for future inspiration, lol. Just beautiful!

  2. Holy smokes, jenba! That’s just absolutely freakin’ GORGEOUS!!! O_O I don’t think I can add much more than that.

  3. The scores for Round 3 were really tight! But you shoulda made the podium again, in my (un)biased opinion! I agree with Protectron being up there, his/hers was stunning. And Lhonna’s was, just WOW. I think hers was my absolute favorite. But even factoring in my friendship with you, I liked yours better than Deelightful’s. *shrugs*

Looks like only you and Ninja have put up Round 4 so far. Hopefully I’ll remember to go back and peek later at the other 5 entries.

Ninja’s entry was great! A little busy for my taste, but I loved the ironwork and the rustic wine rack. :)

Yours is a kitchen I would LOVE to cook in. :D Especially mixing the old world decor and the new world appliances. It’s a new kitchen and modern family, they want the good stove and fridge to create masterpiece meals on. I love that you paid attention and put up a painting that tied together the Italian dining room and the tropical family room. *claps* Your dining room looks just like the dining rooms I ate in when I was in Italy, so GREAT JOB! I like how the fabric on the chairs in the kitchen pull together all the colors in the room.

How did you get the stove in the angled corner with the … I’m not sure what that is behind it. But it looks great!

The ONLY thing I don’t like is the change of floors between the two rooms. I realize it’s Sims and we have no way to adjust things really, but having 2 bricks, but different colors and different angles as jarring. I’d felt like I was looking at a design magazine, until that picture of the floors. :) I hadn’t event noticed the rooms had different floors before, because they matched so well with the decor in both rooms. I’m glad you didn’t have that shot in your entry.

So, the table… did you find one with a tablecloth on it? Or is that an overlay on the table?

And GOOD LUCK with the last round of the challenge!

    • I love your detailed feedback, Aer — thanks for that! As I mentioned on LL, I agree with you about the floors. I ended up not going back and changing them (I think I was just ready to be done with this contest, heh!). I really loved Ninja’s entry and thought the rest were great, too. Definitely a tight competition.

The tablecloth is part of that table — it’s from Luna Sims Lulamai. Her site can be tough to navigate sometimes, but she has some really lovely stuff! Oh, and it’s a two-tile table (you probably noticed) — so I had to shove two together to get a longer table. As for the stove area, that was kind of tricky. I ended up using four counters and turned them backwards so you’d just see the stone pattern. I discovered a cheat that came in very handy — “disablesnappingtoslotsonalt on” — which allowed me to make those counters overlap each other (with “moveobjects on” and using the alt key) and not snap to each other as counters usually do. I used it to make the chairs not snap to the tables as well. Very handy! Then I had to recolor the back two cabinets to a dark grey so you wouldn’t be able to see them through the oven door. An end table cabinet from B5Studio gave me fake cabinet doors. And then simple columns and a shelf and hood from the EA store made up the upper part. It was actually really fun to figure it all out — I really wanted to do a corner oven!

  4. I just want to agree with the person who posted before me that I thought you deserved that place on the podium instead of me. (Even though, in my defense, I wasn’t actually finished but my game went fubar LOL)

Yours was once again my favorite room in that round. I even nominated you for picture of the week.

I’m rooting for you like you wouldn’t believe! I really want you to win this thing! Good luck, honey!

    • Dee, you are just too sweet! Thanks for cheering me on! You know I love your decorating, so it means a lot. :) And thanks so much for the POTW nomination! That gave me lots of warm fuzzies. :)

  5. I like how you managed to make it look like the people were in the midst of dinner when they disappeared.
