Life at Shanley Cottage

I took a break from my Legacy Challenge family the past few nights and caught up with Taryn Shanley’s family. Taryn is Fiona’s sister and the only non-heir to continue the family line. It’ll be interesting (to me at least) to see if I can keep all three houses connected until 10th generation appears on the scene. Will Fiona’s and Taryn’s great great great grandchildren even know each other? I hope we find out soon.

Things have been relatively quiet at Taryn’s house, which I’ve dubbed Shanley Cottage due to its postage-stamp size. It’s actually kind of nice to play a smaller house after the choppy buggy slowness that is Shanley Manor. I can turn my textures up to High in Shanley Cottage and not notice any difference in the smoothness of gameplay. Back at Shanley Manor I have to turn them down to Medium, or things slow way down and sometimes crash the game.

Here’s the Shanley cousin, Eleanor, having breakfast with her mom Taryn. I think they have very similar features except for the nose — Eleanor’s has this ski jump thing going on with hers, while Taryn’s is very straight and pointy, like Fiona’s and Kaylynn’s.

Eleanor and Taryn have breakfast
“Hey Mom, could you cough up my allowance for this week? Thanks.”

I wanted Aidan and Rian to move in with Taryn and Hugh in order to make room for all of the extra Shanley kids at Uncle Liam’s, so I had Taryn invite Aidan over and ask him to move in. He refused at first, so I had to build up their relationship score a bit and try again. This time he accepted.

Taryn hugs Aidan
“Is the nanny making eyes at you? Just smile and act clueless.”

Rian was still “recovering” from his pyrophobia and depression when his brother Aidan invited him to live at Shanley Cottage. He thought perhaps Rian would do better living in a quieter house without so much ruckus. Rian was delighted to move in, and got right down to business playing video games with Aidan and the nanny.

Playing video games
“I think I’ve finally found my happy place.”

Everything seemed to go well until Rian came home one day sporting his new country and western attire.

Taryn makes a face
“Ow, that shirt…my eyes…”

Rian didn’t seem to think anything was wrong with his new clothes and went about making his dinner. As his chili con carne started to burn, sending whirls of black smoke into the air, Rian panicked momentarily, then remembered the words of his therapist: “What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.” Unfortunately he forgot the part where his therapist said, “And don’t cook. Ever. Again.”

Rian burns his dinner
“I will NOT freak out, I will NOT freak out…”

Completely oblivious to Rian’s culinary crisis, Hugh read a book to his daughter Eleanor. Meanwhile Eleanor wondered why she was surrounded by half-naked men. (I kept confusing Hugh and Aidan during gameplay since they have the same hairstyle and hair color, plus I’m just easily confused, so I gave Hugh a beard. He had stubble before anyway, so I guess he finally grew it in!)

Hugh reads a book to Eleanor
“And the third little penguin said ‘This chair is juuuuust right’. Hrm, can penguins sit?”

One night when the family ran out of groceries in the fridge, they ordered a pizza. Aidan met the pizza delivery lady at the door and noted her lovely, exotic features. She seemed nice, too. If he weren’t almost dating Margo from work he would have considered asking for her phone number. But he was THIS close to asking Margo out and didn’t want to ruin it. He asked for the pizza lady’s number anyway and gave it to Rian.

(I had never seen this NPC before and thought she was really pretty. The funny thing is that her name is Ericka Jayapalan, which is the name of the gardener at Shanley Manor! And they look nothing alike. I guess it’s like the two Ivy Copurs. Has the townie/NPC regenerator finally kicked in, now that I’ve married five NPCs into my Legacy family?)

The exotic pizza lady
“If they don’t show up soon, I’m going to wolf down this pizza right here!”

Unfortunately when Rian invited Ericka over the next day, she did nothing but make fun of him. Taryn came home from work as a Coach just in time to witness it.

Ericka insults Rian
“That is the ugliest button I have ever seen.”

  1. Eleanor is so pretty as a teenager! And poor Rian, he just has s oamny problems, doesn’t he?
I hope you have oodles of fun on your vacation. I’m going to miss your updates dearly, but will manage if I try. ;-) Maybe I’m being a bit over-dramatic? Lol.
It’s okay about you not being caught up on everyone’s blogs. We understand that with work, you are very busy.
I think you deserve a vacation! Something very relaxing. Where are you going? I love the tropics, though I’ve never been. Have fun and I can’t wait until you get back! Though I encourage you to make that best out of your vacation on not to stress because of separation issues with the Sims! Lol. Again, have fun!

  2. Eleanor’s a really pretty sim! yeh I know what u mean with the main house. Everything seems to go so slowly cause there’s either too many sim in the hosue or too many things on the lot ( For me it’s both) and it all gets a bit tedius. It’s be great to see all three houses connected! and have a good holiday break! look forward to your updates when u come back.

  3. There is this really weird movie that came out a few years ago called “Willard”. Aidan sort of looks and acts like the main character. Weird.

  4. Don’t worry Jen, the blogs won’t run away! Have a great, great vacation (and come back with some lovely new storylines perhaps;-)), and catch up on some sleep!

  5. Hi Jen. Thanks for the update on your sims. Please enjoy a relaxing vacation and catch up on some ZZZzzz. I really enjoy your stories and I’m sure we(at least I think I will) will survive w/o you for a week or so. I’m sure you know I will suffer from Sims withdrawal along side you. lol
Since you live in a snowy state I’m sure you will enjoy a vacation somewhere warm and tropical. Have a great week and I’m patiently looking forward to your next update.

  6. Eleanor is a very pretty teen. I feel bad for Rian too because he doesn’t seem to be having a good time in life, poor guy. Anytway, have fun on your vacation.

  7. Hehe, I love hearing about all your family members, even at the Shanley Cottage (I love that name!) I’m sorry about you being overly tired. I hope you can relax while you’re on vacation! How fun is that! ^__^ Don’t worry, though. I’ll sure miss your updates but I’ll be so happy when you get back!!

  8. We’ll all have lots for you to read when you get back. I wish I could pry myself away from my computer when I’m away on vacation, but the least I do is check on my e-mail. Have fun at your trip! Where will you be going? Since you’re from Minnesota, I’m sure anyplace warm is good enough! :) Take care!

  9. I’m going on a cruise in the Caribbean, which is MUCH warmer than Minnesota right now, so yeah, that’s a good thing. Unfortunately it’s midnight and I have to leave in about three and a half hours…not sure if I’ll get any sleep tonight! I’ll probably zonk on the plane. Anyway, see you guys in a week! *reluctantly shuts down computer*

  10. Oh, I’m so jealous of your break from winter weather. Have a fun and safe trip. You’re becoming the queen of funny picture captions. :-)

  11. I love your Sims blog! Some of your photo captions had me laughing out loud. I’m hoping to start a blog for my Sims’ exploits soon, so I plan on making good use of your Sim blog tips.

  12. Haha, Rian is hilarious. :D

And your NPC regenerator has definitely kicked in, Ericka is definitely not one of the original three pizza delivery people.

  13. Yesh, those two Ivy Copurs get me mad! I don’t know why, but, eh, iamausername (nice, lol) ish right! *has never seen that pizza girl*

  14. *misses updates* When will there be another one? Sorry, I know you’re busy, but, like many here, I am addicted!

  15. Erm…okay. Jessica, I think we could read that. I was just saying that for when she gets back…if it’s posted, I read it. Thank you though!
