Exploring a Bit of Los Aniegos

I’ve been building and designing and taking pics right and left, but I keep forgetting to post any here, and dead blogs are pointless, so…here are some pics from my gameplay in Greater Los Aniegos last night. GLA is a custom world created by Coasterboi, and one of the amazing things about it is that it doesn’t require any custom content. That fact is even more amazing when you take a look at the world and the sheer variety in buildings and landscape. This world is huge, very detailed, and feels very southern California (even though I’ve never been there). The lag wasn’t too bad on my computer, though I did run into one routing issue which froze my game (I’ve let Coasterboi know about that one).

Here is my Sim, Morna Fitzner, on her first day in Los Aniegos. Like many Sims before her, she has moved to the big city to see if she can become rich and/or famous. But really, since her Lifetime Want is to be a Renaissance Sim, she wants to explore and learn stuff — the rich/famous thing would be just a bonus.

Los Aniegos

Unfortunately she’s quite poor at the moment and has to live in a cheap, slightly squalid apartment across from the airport.

Los Aniegos

Los Aniegos

She also has a great view of warehouses, cranes, a vast expanse of chain-link fencing…

Los Aniegos

…and a film studio. Well, at least she’s close to downtown. But it’d be nice to live in one of those houses on the hills, she thinks. All in due time.

Los Aniegos

For now, she uses all but a few hundred Simoleons to buy some curtains (privacy is important, even when you’re living in squalor), a dresser, a radio, an end table, and some more lamps, to keep the cockroaches out of sight. She sits in her tiny apartment, quite happy with her surroundings…

Los Aniegos

…until 5 minutes later when her fidgetyness overtakes her, and she decides to do some exploring. Sure, she should probably look for a job, but as long as she can continue to afford her organic autumn salads and the occasional happy hour drink, she’s fine for a few days at least. Might as well enjoy the sunshine!

Los Aniegos

While crossing the highway, she spies her first celebrity…it’s Lady Lala! At least, it looks like Lady Lala. But why is she running like a bat out of hell down Interstate 99? Are the paparazzi hot on her trail?

Los Aniegos

Morna thinks about just letting the poor woman be, but a sudden desire to meet somebody famous rises within her, and against her better sensibilities, she goes chasing after Lala, calling her name. Much to Morna’s surprise, Lady Lala stops and turns around, and even graciously gives her an autograph.

Los Aniegos

It’s not one of Morna’s prouder moments, acting like a starstruck fool, but Lady Lala is like, the biggest celebrity in the world for at least another fifteen minutes, and she can’t resist taking this opportunity to rub elbows with her.

Los Aniegos

She tries to impress Lady Lala by telling her about her own interest in music, and Lala smiles approvingly in return, but when Morna goes too far and starts talking about how she doesn’t know how to play any instruments or do anything at all, really, except chase after celebrities, hahaha, Lala looks away uncomfortably and says, “Um…I have to get back to my run…”

Los Aniegos

With that, she takes off like a shot down the highway, and Morna is left alone to explore again. Dazzled by her encounter with possibly the most famous person in Greater Los Aniegos, she wanders around downtown in a bit of a daze, taking in the scenery.

Los Aniegos

Los Aniegos

Los Aniegos

She finds herself at the beach just as the sun is starting to set, and starts up a conversation with a stylist named Terry. Or was it Jenna? Ah well, Morna has a terrible memory for names, but at least she has made a new friend on her first day in LA.

Los Aniegos

Morna loves the beach and the beautiful views, especially of the Rainbow Room club, with all of its colorful lights…

Los Aniegos

…and the rugged coastline, stretching out to sea.

Los Aniegos

She introduces herself to another beachgoer named Dustin…or was it Justin? and they dance by a firepit.

Los Aniegos

After a bit of boogieing down, Morna asks Dustin if he wants to get some food, since her stomach is screaming at her, but he’s too tired and heads home instead. Morna heads into the Rainbow Room to eat, but there aren’t any serving staff present (not sure why that happened, as other clubs had mixologists on duty), so she tries the Cobra Room up the street.

Los Aniegos

Once there, she only has time to hit the bathroom quick before realizing she’s too tired to eat and grabs a taxi home, which makes her grumpy as she’s eco-friendly and doesn’t like to ride in a car by herself. Time to buy a bicycle, apparently.

That’s it for now…thanks for reading, and Happy Simming!

  1. Holy … Simoly (not the word I was thinking of, but it would have been rude to put the other one there)!! There are certainly some talented creators out there, and the pics were amazing. Are we going to get more of Morna?

    • That’s a distinct possibility, since I still have about 80% of Los Aniegos to explore! It’s just massive. Coasterboi is an extremely talented world creator, to be sure!

  2. Hehe. I love her freckles. She has a nice face. The town looks pretty cool, too. What kind of pathing issue was it? Isn’t crossing an interstate illegal??

    • LOL, I know, I wasn’t sure if that road was really supposed to be an interstate or even a highway, but I didn’t know what to call it, and it has an interstate sign overhead, so…I guess in Sim Nation it’s perfectly legal? Heh. Although it could just be a road leading to the interstate…ah well, Morna is new, she has no idea what that road is, just that she needed to get across it! ;-p

The pathing issue had to do with a food truck parked outside of the sports stadium downtown. I wanted Morna to have a bite to eat, but she couldn’t get to the truck and had a route failure tantrum. When I tried to direct her to the truck via a more winding path, my game froze. :-/ It’s a very cool world, though!

  3. Lady Lala *snigger*… as always, beautiful pictures Jen! Perhaps Coasterboi can put you and Morna on his pay roll! Are you just going to be venturing with Morna, or will she be lucky enough to have her own story too? I’d love to see if she does actually manage the rich/famous thing!

    • Yeah, I chuckled when I saw “Lady Lala”, too, especially since she was bolting down the highway! She’s a 5-star celebrity in Coasterboi’s world (and probably in our world, I reckon), so Morna’s reaction wasn’t *too* overboard. Heh. I do want to play Morna some more and see if she can make some money/move out of her crappy apartment…although the gameplay hasn’t grabbed me yet. We’ll see what happens!

  4. I love all the celebrities he added to the game, its a very cute touch. And I was amazed too what he did with absolutely no CC. I mean… wow. Love your pics and story. I need to move one of my sims out there. I was exploring with one of the townies. I think I explored about 1% of the world so far. LoL.

    • Thanks, RD! :-) I thought your pics of GLA on the Living Sims forum were amazing. And I know what you mean, the world is just so huge! It took Morna almost a whole Sim day just to explore about 1/15th of it! I’ll have to play her again and see what other celebrities she runs into…

  5. I’ve spent two days going around it in map view, and it’s amazing. There’s a Doc Brown out in the trailer park who’s an inventor! *giggles because she’s watched way too much of the Back to the Future movies* I’m still looking for the McFly residence, but I don’t think there is one…

It is AMAZING. I’ve been to LA, and it feels like it. The highway system he’s got is as perfect as you can get without actual overpasses.

    • Ooh, yeah, I heard about Doc Brown and wanted to see him! I’ve always wanted to build the McFly house — this would be the perfect place for it. :)

I did play a little more but received a dreaded Error 12 while saving and haven’t been back yet. :-/ I’ve gotten Error 12 in Twinsbrook before, so I don’t think it’s anything to do with GLA (unless it’s just more likely to happen to large worlds in general), but it was disheartening.
