Whew, what a night. I only played through 2 or 3 Sim days, but they were pretty intense. Let’s just say that trying to keep 7 Sims in platinum is extremely tough. I think the best I’ve done is 6 Sims in platinum. I pause the game constantly to check on everyone and queue their actions, and it’s kind of wearing me out. The house was actually full for awhile after Kaylynn’s third child was born. They don’t call it the Legacy Challenge for nothing!
Now for the update…the first picture here is actually from the other night (when Kiara passed away). Liam no longer had his First Kiss want, but Leo wanted a relative to get engaged, so I had Liam invite Melissa Fancey over. They were friends, but by the end of the night Liam had proposed engagement. Somewhere in there he received his very first kiss. Go Liam! I couldn’t have Melissa move in because the house was already full, so she and Liam are still just engaged.
When I popped into the house tonight, I checked on everyone and took pictures of what they were doing. I like to do this before the blurs set in, plus it’s nice just to capture a “random” moment. Here’s Taryn, now a child, eating dinner by herself. Poor kid. I have no idea who made the dinner for her.
I should probably mention that Taryn has the EXACT SAME PERSONALITY as her sister Fiona (8-9-1-5-5) which was very disappointing. They also looked pretty similar as children (it’s like Devin and Liam all over again), so I gave Taryn some glasses. She’s not wearing them in the dinner pic because she’s in her PJs.
Speaking of Fiona, here she is attempting to do homework. She looks a little befuddled.
I found Liam upstairs looking through the telescope. This is no surprise since I’ve had him routinely using the energizer to max his needs, studying and or working throughout the day, then staying up all night to survey the skies. I was really hoping he’d be abducted and have an alien child, but no such luck yet. He looks pretty good in those swimtrunks, though.
Around that time I started hearing the grumblings of a ghost wandering the lot, so I scouted around and found the ghost of Kiara. Her first appearance! I was actually hoping she’d show up, because Bree had a want to see Kiara’s ghost specifically. I even sold Kiara’s old bed, hoping that would rouse her. Well, I guess it worked, because she kept howling about the loss of her bed. Bree was sleeping upstairs, so I had her wake up and run down to the yard. Eventually she met up with Kiara’s ghost, and though she was frightened, she seemed quite happy about it.
The “See a Ghost” want kept popping back up, so I had Bree follow Kiara’s ghost around the lot until dawn. That put her in full platinum, which I figured would last for awhile. When I went back to checking on everyone, I found Leo lounging on the sofa, looking half-asleep. I had him retire from his Chief of Staff job a few days before so he could spend more time with his family.
As I mentioned, I had Kaylynn get pregnant again to see if maybe the third child would be different from the other two. She had a girl whom I named Maire. Here’s Daddy Devin in his cool SWAT Team uniform holding his baby daughter.
Since I have the computer in the same room as the “homework desk”, the kids often play SSX3 to replenish their fun. Taryn happened to be playing it when the computer broke down, so Kaylynn came in and lectured her. I’ve only seen lecturing once or twice before and never got a good picture of it, so I snapped one this time.
I can’t keep track of everyone all the time, so sometimes I find them doing silly things on their own…Leo can really bust a move for a guy of 78!
Here’s where things got a little intense. Bree was age 79, and I figured if she hadn’t died yet, she wasn’t going to die until she hit 80, because that’s when both Nia and Sheldon went. Well, death decided to show up a day early. I could have SWORN Bree was in full platinum when he arrived, but she didn’t leave a platinum urn — just the plain old gray one. I was really bummed about that. I really had no idea when she would die, so I was keeping her in platinum as much as possible. Then of course when Mr. Reaper shows up, she slides down into gold. Argh!
Aside from that annoyance, I was sad to see Bree leave us. She was a good mother and grandmother, a sharp cookie, and generally nice. Of course you can say that about most Sims, but I was kind of attached to Bree and Kiara both. I’m not sure if I’ll keep Bree’s headstone since it’s not platinum (only plat stones give you points in the Legacy Challenge) and more ghosts just means more mayhem, but I don’t have the heart to delete it just yet.
About an hour later, Fiona grew into a teen. She has nice features and reminds me of her mom, but she has the Shanley brown eyes. The only clothes she had were Bree and Kiara’s old teen outfits, so I had her go shopping. After Bree died, the family funds grew by about §40,000, so I figured we could splurge on clothes. After all, I would have three teen girls eventually, and I couldn’t have them all wearing the same thing!
Just as everyone was digging into Fiona’s birthday cake, I summoned up another cake for Maire — she was due to become a toddler. I had the weird buggy thing happen where they take the baby to the cake, then set the baby down, and nothing happens. Kaylynn’s arm even got all twisted when she put her down, but then it went back to normal. I ended up buying another cake and having Leo help Maire blow out the candles. This time it worked, and Maire became a toddler. The first thing I did was check her stats — would we finally have some variety on this one? Unfortunately not. She is the same as her sisters. That’s right — three girls, all with the same exact stats. Argh again!
I didn’t get a picture of Maire as a toddler since she went straight to bed after her transition, but I took one more pic of the family sort of getting back to normal — Kaylynn, who has a Cooking score of 10, burned the spaghetti, so Fiona is fanning her face. That’s Taryn playing SSX3 and Liam studying. Grandpa Leo is just outside of the picture, sitting in the recliner. He’ll turn 80 the next time I play, so we’ll get another visit from Grim Reaper and the Hula Honeys.
That’s it for tonight. I can’t believe I’m only on fourth generation…as much as I like my Legacy Family, I have to admit I’m growing weary of all the micromanaging. I need a break!
Great blog!
About the stats – Can’t you “encourage” them so they have better personalities?
Wow, there’s so much happening with your family! I would go nuts having all of those people in my house at once…plus the fact that my games slow tremendously when I have more than 4 people on my lots.
You’re right about micromanaging, it does get tiring, but you’re also right that they do some of the more interesting stuff when you let them go. I’ve been trying to let my Sims go more than I used to with the original game, I think it keeps me sane.
Einav – hi and thanks for stopping by! I plan on using “Encourage” as much as possible — at least on Fiona, who will probably end up being the heir. I just don’t know if she will then pass those modified traits on to her kids, or if she passes on the genes she was born with…
Heidi – I think I AM going nuts with that many people in the house…I don’t usually micromanage so much, but since I’m still sort of going for points, it’s the best way to make sure everyone is efficient. It was fun to do that for awhile, but I think for 4G I’ll take it easy and let them do their own thing more often.
Hi Jen, great update. I love your legacy family. I bet you get crossed eye just trying to watch everything and everyone. You do deserve a break but I love you blog so that makes me a little sad. I have a question/comments. I heard that if you make a moat around your cementary the ghost won’t cross it. So maybe if you surround your grave stones with water it may stop them from doing mayhem and still have the stones for their love ones to grieve over. Do you think that will help? Like I said i’m not sure if it’s true. Also if you do surround your graveyard with water will the gardener be able to keep up that area? Just thought you may want to look into different options. I hope I was some help.
Like I said I love your family and your stories, you do such a great job. If you do take a break just thought I let you know I understand and will wait patiently for you update.
I love your updates, too! I heard about the moat thing, too… probably on the boards or somewhere else. I’m a little behind on my stories, too… I have about a couple day’s worth of stuff to post.
Don’t forget to rest your eyes once in a while, too! :) Put the game on pause and close your eyes. You are doing great with keeping up with the families. I think, after the next person dies, could you post another family tree? That way we can also keep track of who has what kids, etc. There’s so many people, with great storylines, that I don’t want to get confused!
Wonderful update. I don’t know how you can manage this many Sims! It’s a good mix that you sometimes just pop-in and take in the sights :-) I staged a wedding (not posted yet) in my autonomous house and it was the most work I’ve had playing! LOL Whew, no more managing the lil Simmies.
I thought I read somewhere that there was a hack to had more Sims to a household – of course I can’t find it now. Would that be considered cheating in the Legacy Challenge?
Mary – You’re right, ghosts won’t cross water, but in the Legacy Challenge you get 2 points if you let your ghosts roam freely around the lot. So unless it gets really crazy, I’ll just let them wander. It’s a good thing to keep in mind, though. :-) And I won’t give up this blog anytime soon — I was just frustrated with my Legacy family last night. It’ll blow over, I’m sure. ;-)
Kathy – That’s a great idea, I think I’ll post a family tree once every generation.
Lauren – I can’t wait to see how your wedding went. :-) As for the hack to add more Sims — I’m not sure if that would be considered cheating in the Legacy Challenge, because it probably makes the game MORE challenging! LOL But the only hacks Pinstar has allowed so far have been the jump-bug fix and the no-cheer hack.
Your comments reminded me that I should start keeping a point tally, especially before Madeline passes away. I thought it would be ok to keep a tally of how much money they made (from their memories), rather then their net worth since their income is legitimate, the house I moved them in isn’t though…plus you lose access to their memories when they die.
lol… I know what you mean. I’m havign a hardtime controling 6 people in my legacy family. 2 adults, 2 twin teens and 2 twin toddlers. I hardly get through 2 sim days in each session. Though I think I’ve got 6 of them in Plat at some stage :p
This was a great story but Im sorry that some one had to die.
