10 is the Magic Number

Kid #10 was born today! I just wanted to share since I probably won’t post that update in awhile (Trent’s letter is next, then maybe Marlee again for their senior year, then back to regular updates). I am happy to report that Kid #10 was a girl, so that makes 4 girls and 6 boys. Here’s a rundown of all ten kids:

1. Marlee – Young Adult, Family (5-9-2-5-6)
2. Ethan – Young Adult, Fortune (I rolled a new aspiration for him when he became a junior, and it’s perfect, since his Lifetime want is now “Become a Hall of Famer” and he has a 10 in Active!) (1-6-10-4-7)
3. Trent – Young Adult, Family (2-10-2-10-7)
4. Darren – Young Adult, Family (6-3-6-4-10)
5. Cady – Young Adult, Fortune (10-1-8-8-1)
6. Arielle – Young Adult, Popularity (5-9-2-5-6)
7. Ron – Teen, Family (6-3-9-5-7)
8. Johannes – Child (1-6-6-4-8)
9. Stephen – Child (6-6-9-4-7)
10. Leda – Baby

So far the only clone in the family is Arielle (clone of Marlee), so the “create a random Sim before birth” method seems to work pretty well. They are all very similar in appearance, of course, since it’s 1st gen, but I’m thrilled that they have such different personalities.

To see pictures of the kids (except for Stephen and Leda), you can visit this page of my Ravelo family tree on Tribal Pages. I know it can be hard to keep track of who’s who in these legacy families, so I try to keep my Tribal Pages family tree fairly up-to-date.

So anyway…bring on the “Have 20 Grandchildren” want! ;-)

  1. Yaaay! Congrats Jen! Ive never managed the 10 kid want, but infact, I’ve never tried. That should be one of my future ambitions xD

I can’t wait to see everyone grown up and having their own kids, you could end up with 30 grandkids easily!!

  2. Wow Jen, congrats, absolutely! I’m happy that all your kids turned out so well and that most of them have different stats (and I STILL do not know how this is accomplished – would you dearly explain one last time… pleeeeease? cuz I didn’t get it, I guess I’m too stupid for it *lol*). And yikes, are you really gonna go for the 20 grandchildren want? Damian and Lauren from gen 3 (both family) have this want constantly on now… and they only have 3 grandchildren so far *lol*! Whatever, I’m very keen on seeing what Trent hast to write :). Oh, and with my next family sim, I’ll definitely go for the 10 kids want aswell. But I figure it will be a little more difficult since I don’t have University, but oh well, I love playing at the moment and have lots of free time :) And also, gotta hope for a family sim whatsoever! Maybe Rui will be, or his sister Rhia (which was born just yesterday – first blond girl, yeeeeeey)!! I also constantly update my Tribal Pages Tree to keep track (especially with new families being founded), but I figure it’s a bit problematic if I want to put on so many pics and am only allowed to put 50. And I don’t want to pay *gg*. Whatsoever – Good work, as always, you know it!

  3. That’s great! Such cool names too, I really like Leda! So to get different personalities you just create a random CAS sim before entering the playable lot? I think I read on the forum where Bitsy mentioned that. I love all these tricks.

  4. Cady is so pretty and I love her hair. I love the name too. We call my neice Cady, because her name is Cadence. Hence the name loving. I love this legacy family. Woot Woot!!

  5. Ten kids??
    You are very brave Jen!!!
And now, have 20 grandchildren??? O.o (I don´t believe* lol*)

  6. I noticed that none of them have Lauren’s blonde hair, or did u change anyof the hair colors? i am also curious who the heir is…..

  7. I find it odd that you state that people with the same stats are ‘clones’ of one another.
I also find it weird that in a household with the same parents,
    people expect such differant stats.
    o_o
    I guess.
You could say, for story’s sake,
that Marlee and Arielle are very -alike-.

    Not clones. xB
    -end rant-

  8. ‘Clone’ is a commonly used term for when you have one kid with the same stats as a previous one.
Besides, it’s not like this update qualifies as an official part of the story any way, since this is Jen writing as Jen and not one of the Ravelos. :)
Personally, my own experience with RL families with a lot of kids is that they do tend to differ strongly from one another. Even if there are similarities, it’s very rare to find two children in one household (twins aside) that are alike to the point where they are equally active, nice, etc. So since I like my Sims to be (reasonably, what with aliens and vampires and all ;) realistic, I also like it when the kids are different from one another. Thus I also do the ‘create a random Sim before another kid is born’ trick.
Keep on using the lingo, Jen lady!

  9. Yeah, Lauren would never call her own child a “clone” — that would be unthinkable! I myself have no problem calling them clones, however — it’s just a way to describe what I find to be an unfortunate aspect of the game.

Compared to us, Sims are an extremely uncomplicated species. They have 5 personality traits; we have hundreds. They have 5 (or 6) aspirations; we have who knows how many. Heck, I probably have 5 or 6 aspirations myself. Every human individual is incredibly unique, even those born to the same parents. My sisters are twins, and their personalities are like night and day.

I know I’m stating the obvious, but what I’m trying to say is that it’s easy to make a unique human, but very difficult to make a unique Sim. There’s really a finite number of Sims in the universe (leaving out the appearance factor). So when you have 2 or 5 or 10 Sim children with the exact same personality, it’s a little disappointing. Sims act so much alike anyway; to keep the game interesting, you need some variety to bring other behaviors out. I wouldn’t want to play 10 Sim children with the same personality any more than I would want to play 10 separate Sims in separate houses all with the same personality. Part of the fun of the game is seeing these different personalities interact with each other and their environment. If there’s no variety, then those interactions get pretty predictable.

  10. Eva M – The “create a random CAS Sim before birth” method works like this: just before your pregnant Sim gives birth, save your lot and go back to neighborhood view. Go into CAS — usually it loads up a random Sim. Click on the “dice” (randomizer) a few times to create another random Sim. Give this Sim a name, aspiration, and turn-ons/turn-offs (if you have Nightlife), otherwise it won’t let you continue. Click the checkmark to save the Sim, then go back to neighborhood view. Here you can either leave the Sim in the lot bin or delete her. Then go back to your regular family and let your Sim give birth.

  11. That’s true.
    I don’t play TS2 often.
As my computer can’t even handle it, so I have to go somewhere else to play at all.
    x.x;

  12. Congrats! That 10 kid want is a pain but doable ;) It’s good that you got it done during the 1st generation too.
Do you know what you plan on doing with all of them yet?

Ok your tribal pages is that the free version or upgrade because I use the free version and don’t recall that option ;)

Well I haven’t played my Sims but I GOT my laptop! YES! :D Well it’s not here yet but I ordered it late last night ( won’t be in my hot hands until a week from now ). Was doing research on it before I commited myself to the one I wanted. So my time on the pc was on finding a laptop in which I can play Sims 2.

I did do an update though on my NL family the Theorys .. go check it out when you can. At the moment I’m undecided if I should allow my founder to age or get vamped. Yes she has a count as a friend for now but that could change as I’m also thinking about having her get preggers with 2 other NPCs that she is friends with..the count and the DJ

What do you think? Should I ?
