The Year in Pictures

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Greetings from Mt. Geneva, I decided to do two things:

First, I began a new Legacy family, the Ravelos of Rosebrook. I played them for several hours last night and am really enjoying it so far (the Xtreme Start for the Nightlife Legacy Challenge is hard, but not as hard as I thought it would be, thank goodness). I plan on posting the first update tonight when I get home from work. Huzzah!

Second, I wanted to take a little stroll down memory lane. It’s been an incredibly fun year sharing my Sims stories with you guys and receiving such generous feedback in return. And to all you other Sims 2 bloggers (including those who are no longer blogging), thank you for inspiring, enlightening, and entertaining me. You guys rule.

Without further ado, here are 12 pictures from this blog, one for each month of the past year.

September 2004

Joely Dobbins was the very first Sim I ever told stories about, and she fell in love with Nick Squire, Mt. Geneva’s resident womanizer. Of course, he fell in love with her, too. The ghost of Maude Berthiaume was there to report every detail.

”Sid
October 2004

To experiment with Sim autonomy, I created a family called the Kilmans and pretty much let them do what they wanted (although I did make the kids do homework once in awhile). They were poor, though, and Sid Kilman really needed a promotion, so I tried out the Noodlesoother, which was supposed to put him in a good mood. Unfortunately it killed him. It was my first death in the Sims 2. Poor Sid!

November 2004

I started a Legacy family after Lynda at So Very Posh mentioned it in a post. I thought it sounded like a fun way to play the game. I had only reached three generations with the Dobbins family, and no elders had died yet. So I took a randomly-generated Sim, named her Nia Shanley, and spent the next four months completely engrossed in the legacy she founded.

”Devin
December 2004

By generation 4 the Shanleys were in full swing, and just for fun I had a little Christmas party interlude. The part of rockin’ Santa was played by Devin Shanley, my 3rd gen heir. A good time was had by all!

”Uncle
January 2005

Around the time of the Christmas party, Devin’s brother Liam had moved out with some of the 4th gen kids, and my first Legacy satellite house was born. Good old Uncle Liam took care of oodles of Shanley offspring before he went to the great luau in the sky.

”Gary
February 2005

My 7th gen Shanley heir, Tebbany, married bartender Gary Hiatt, who had rather unfortunate features (which still uglify the Shanleys to this day). The nice thing about Gary was that he gave Tebbany twins AND got abducted by aliens, giving me my first alien birth.

”Marcel
March 2005

I reached 10th gen of the Shanley Legacy the night before I bought the first Sims expansion, University. The 10th gen baby, Mia, grew up, went to Sim State U., married the llama mascot, and began her own legacy family. His name was Marcel, and he loved wearing his llama suit.

”Cecily
April 2005

And there’s Cecily Brayton from my historical family, who never really knew her mother, but became rather well-acquainted with her mother’s ghost.

”Cecily
May 2005

I didn’t post much in May — I got a new job and moved to a new house all in the space of a week, so life was chaotic for a bit. The Braytons chugged slowly along, however, and Cecily grew into a lovely woman. They had reached the 1910s, so I got to use all the awesome Titanic clothes from All About Style.

”James
June 2005

After being infatuated with James Haddaway for nearly 10 years, Cecily Brayton finally kissed him.

”Mia
July 2005

My 10th gen Shanley heir, Mia, joined her ancestors (that is, the ones who aren’t still floating around in satellite houses) after giving birth to two daughters, fulfilling her lifetime want of becoming a Captain Hero, and transforming her squalid shack into a marvelous mansion.

”Charles
August 2005

Charles and Lily Dunnavant, the “nobles” of my Royal Kingdom Challenge, arrive at their mansion on Annabel Island to start their lives anew. Seeing them again makes me want to go back and play my RKC some more. They had a son, you know. Ah, the Sims…too many cool things to do and so little time.

Thanks for indulging me, and for reading this blog over the months. Here’s to another year! *pops the cork on the sparkling grape juice and pours some all around*

  1. Wow, it’s hard to believe a year has already passed. It definitely brings back memories seeing all those pics of your past posts. Makes me want to go back and read about the Shanleys again. It’s great to hear you have a new Legacy challenge you are excited about. I’m definitely looking forward to reading about them!

  2. Sweet, sweet update Jen!
Hmm. Almost makes me feel up to posting updates and stuff again. :D You’re always such an inspiration. I’m glad you’re making another Legacy family!
I have been quietly working away on a weird little set up of my own. I graduated all the pre-made Uni characters and bred them, then I bred their offspring. I used a lot of cheats so the first gens died from old age (after I’d changed their clothes so they would look appropriately historic) and the second gen got killed off in pool accidents. Now the third generation, consisting of four boys and two girls are in an orphanage. They’re well into childhood years by now and should soon be hitting their teens. :D

  3. Wow.. i knew it..those Royal Kingdom people would have a kid and they did. I came on to say Happy Birthday Mt.Geneva! Haha but this sweetened the deal with this little album type thing. Aww..makes me wanna cry. The Braytons are gone..the Royal people..*tear* haha. Well I dont care because now I get to read your new people. YES.

  4. Oooooooh what a lovely update! Though I havnt been around for a whole year, I have been reading your blog since November! *nods* Just hadnt posted a comment ever before. One day I just decided to ;) And so I did.

I hope your blog keeps going until september 2006 and you can have a 2 year anniversary too! Happy Birthday Mt Geneva! *cheers*

  5. Long time no see from me, happy birthday to Mt. Geneva! It is crazy to think that you’ve been doing this for a whole year, but I hope it will continue for many more, your stories are always highly entertaining. Loving the trip down memory lane too, since I’vebeen reading almost since the start, which is also rather crazy to think about. Where does the time go?

If anyone’s been wondering where I’ve been, well, due to thepoor quality of my computer it couldn’t actually handle University well enough to make it any fun to play, which kind of put a stop to my simming for a while, but of course I missed the buggers, so a few weeks back I reinstalled the bare bones game and started a new Legacy family, who I was really enjoying, however, university again prevents the blogging; this time the real kind since I have just started. But eventually I shall definitely get back to my simblogging.

  6. Two more years…five…it doesn’t matter, as long as you keep going Jen! Thanks for all your hard work in entertaining us with your Simmies and their adventures. When you come up with a master plan for what you are going to do, you’ll have all our support, so don’t worry! I’m just excited for your new venture…

  7. Congrats! What a Sim-iful year you’ve had! And aww… the Shanleys!

And YAY! You’ve started another Legacy family! I loved the Xtreme start of my family (the Everson’s) and can’t wait to see what you’ve been up to with your own. :)

  8. I thought I had missed the birthday but I’m happy I didn’t! Happy Birthday Mt. Geneva. :D It’s really great to see how your photos have improved over the year. I remember all of those families, I really liked Joely Dobbins and it was so sad when the Kilman’s father died and so shocking too.

I know I started my blog soon after you started yours because I was reading So Very Posh, Bringing Up Daysies and this one while I waited for my game. When the game finally arrived I started my own blog. I wonder when my one-year anniversary will be. It’s unfortunate that I had to take such a long break from blogging in the middle of it because of computer problems. :( Perhaps I’ll still sing happy birthday to myself. ;)
