Long Time, No See

My sincere apologies to those of you who keep checking this blog hoping to see a new story posted. I seem to be having a tough time writing updates. I have all the pics for a Maude update ready to go, and all the pics for a Brayton update ready to go, but whenever I sit down to work on the writing part, my interest drains away. I’m sure you can see how that might be a problem.

There are reasons for that fading interest — sometimes it’s been so long since I’ve taken the pictures that I’ve just plain lost enthusiasm for coming up with a story to go along with them. Sometimes I have writer’s block. And sometimes — well, all the time — it takes me forever and a day to write the updates, so I run out of steam before they’re completed. I could go on, but I’d bore you to bits.

The bottom line is — I don’t want to give up on this blog, but clearly a new approach is necessary. What seemed to work best for me in the past was my Legacy Challenge family. They were fun to play, since I was working towards a particular goal, and writing the updates didn’t take forever or make my brain explode.

So I might try starting a new challenge family — I already have some ideas for what I could do. It’s also possible I might continue the Chinchilla family or try the new Nightlife Xtreme Legacy Challenge. In any case, my more in-depth stories will be put on hold until I feel motivated to work on them. I know, I keep putting everything on hold. Hopefully something will stick one of these days.

In the meantime, as always, thanks so much for your patience and support and for continuing to check my blog.

  1. Haha i was wondering what was going on, but sure we definately understand. It kinda is a problem when there is no interest in completing something, a fact that gets me in trouble all the time. Are we dissapointed? Of course not because we know that you actually tried to get the posts up and running but it didnt quite work out. Who can we blame? The government that’s who. Why not? We blame them for everything else. :D Haha. Well it is kinda sad that I won’t see my Braytons as soon as I had thought, but atleast i will be seeing something sometime. Something to keep my boredom at bay. Good luck on Crystal and the new legacy family. We support you all the way.

  2. Ohh and I totally forgot, I was reading past issues of this blog and i came across your nano writing and I must say..way to go Jen. Even though you didn’t reach your goal, the story was hot. I would’ve loved to read that story ’til the end, but time is money and most of us dont have neither of them haha.

  3. I don´t want you give up this blog , and you right, the Legacy Challenge had a tremendous success, and of course, I find a great idea if you made a new one, but the most important is,….you have fun with all that stories, and don´t feel like a obligation.
But, i can´t wait to read another legacy by Jen.
Kisses and keep the entusiasm and fun, and make us laught with your sense of humor pleeeease!!!! We all love your stories.

PS: Once again sorry for my bad bad… english =D
    Bye bye ;)

  4. Yup I was wondering too but I do understand the waning motivation. I’m at gen 8 with my Moonlight Family and started a new legacy family on my blog doing the Xtreme NightLife.

I honestly believe that starting my new family has jumpstarted me to finish with the Moonlights so I can move on with The Theory Family ( My Xtreme NL legacy family).

I find that I just want to rush the Moonlight’s so I can continue with the new family. I have been one that can not play more than one family at a time, but alas it’s being done and yup doing the legacy challenge keeps me playing because there is a goal to it.

  5. Do whatever you feel like. I’d just be happy to hear from you. I guess you could start working on part two of that movie, Christmas in the City. Since you have Nightlife it’ll be much easier to set up the scene in the city. I know it’s really early but it would probably take a long time no matter when you started. I know it would be that way if I tried to make a movie like that. And, in a couple days, Happy Birthday, Mt. Geneva!!!

  6. Totally understandable. And while I love all your stories.. I /really/ love the Shanleys, so I know I would totally enjoy seeing another Legacy family from you (and actually being on board with them from the very beginning, instead of catching the tail-end of their legacy). Whatever you decide, though, I’m sure will work out fine. :)

  7. take a break if you need to, but don’t keep us hanging! (we are a demanding bunch, aren’t we)

sometimes the best is to take a hard-left and come at it from a different angle. we simply enjoy your stories no matter what they are.

i’m working on something new, too, but i’m stumped on how to approach the story… because i don’t want to lose steam either.

  8. Hey, thats ok Jen! Everyone needs a break now and again, or something new. I dont mind, but I’ll keep checking back to see if you have another update up =)
Have fun, whatever story you decide to do!

  9. Jen, I totally understand before I started the Cooking for Two series I kept struggling to find something that would keep my interest, someway to update my blog regularly and not feel pressured to do it but excited. I love posting stories but when I actually play those sims I end up getting way ahead of myself and I lose the desire to post about them. So my trick was to play a different neighborhood, I started with one family and it grew from there. Sort of like a legacy challenge except without all the rules that I don’t like. :P Then I am free to write my story and it becomes more entertaining for me as well. I think I’ve found a balance I don’t feel pressured to write and I absolutely love it. At the same time when I want to play the game I’m free to do that too. ( I may share some of my gameplay family soon, I’ve been taking lots of pictures).

Anyway, I really hope you get it figured out because it’s sad seeing your blog sleeping. Even if you post a step by step gameplay update about some family we’ve never met before with absolutely no story to it, it would be much better than not seeing an update at all.

And, even if you don’t post a story to go with those photos you took I think we would all like to see them anyway. :)

    Good luck.
    ~Amanda

  10. heeey! haven’t been here for a while, my own blog/sim families are still on hold until I finish my finals which are about 4 weeks away. I’ve been reading thru u 20 or how ever many posts I’ve miised out, they’re all so good, very entertaining and well written! can’t wait for u to unblock ur writer’s block :p well good luck with things and most of all just have fun! oh and happy anniversary to Mt Geneva it’s been a long and entertaining road, following ur blog!

  11. Honestly? On my part you could write about different cheeses/model trains/earwigs, and I’d still read it. :) Write whatever you feel like, yo! I’ve been completely stalled as well, but that’s just because I’ve been extremely introverted this past month or so. Phases. I figure I’ll get back to it soon enough.

  12. Hey jen! don’t worry about anything your stories are great and to be honest your writing and some others really inspired my to create a sims 2 blog that i just started today! i hope u visit it someday. and congrats for your first year!!

  13. Heya Jen – I can absolutely understand what you’re talking about – and well, didn’t I say it, another legacy family of your’s would do the trick *lol* – well anyway, I am still desperately hoping for you to start another legacy family as I loved the Shanleys so much, but well, I told you a hundred times already ;) – I guess today I’m gonna sit myself and write another Morrigan update – has taken quite a while anyway, and the trip to Dublin was a big interference there! and the past few days – well, you can’t imagine how incredibly stressful the last year of school can be, all my teachers seem to go nuts with homework and assignments *lol* – anyway, you definitely have my understandings and support, I am looking very forward to what you’ll come up with next! Until then :)

  14. You guys are awesome. Thank you for all your supportive comments and suggestions — they mean a lot to me.

Nita – Haha, my sister asked me when she and I are doing the next Christmas in the City episode, but since we practically killed each other doing the last one, I’m not sure I want to try it again! I have been working on another little movie, though, just for kicks, and hope to finish that up in the next week or so. Thanks for the idea!

Amanda – That’s a great idea, to have separate families just for gameplay. My problem is that I end up taking pictures and want to share them — I guess that’s part of what makes the gameplay fun for me. I’m looking forward to reading about your Treber family!

Janice – HI!!! I miss your blog! I can’t wait until you finish your finals so I can read your updates again! It’s good to see you. :-D

Kay – I adore your blog and miss your stories, but I can certainly understand going through a phase like that. Hope you’re enjoying life regardless. :-)

Kalamar37 – I posted a comment on your blog, but it didn’t show up. Just wanted to let you know! And it looks great so far. Welcome to the world of Sims 2 bloggers!

  15. some of my favorite posts of yours were quick snapshots of things you found funny. Seriously, I still laugh about the burning bread box and Juan of the dead. I can’t wait till nano. I wonder how many others who comment here are interested? Thank you Jen for keeping us entertained and interested for this past year. Your Great!

  16. Thank you, lil and susana! I finally posted a celebration post. I’m always running late. ;-)

lil, you should join SimScribes! Jessica from Serendipity Sims started a thread on there for those of us doing Nano this year. I’d love to see you post there, too!

  17. Hiya Jen, you don’t know me yet, but I’ve been a “repeat customer” of your blog since I happened upon your Brayton family, and I was blown away. I have been simming for a while, and I have been enjoying taking ppictures and even shouting “action” from time to time, but I never, ever thought about taking it to the levels you have, although I enjoy writing very much so.
I followed the Brayton Legacy Cahllenge for over a year now (at least I think I have), and it kept me on my toes. I guess I just wanted to say Thank you for showing me another way to play the Sims 2, and for that wonderful story you have been writing. I sure hope you get around to continuing the Brayton Legacy someday, since I really, really love the way you write them.
I haven’t dived into your other stories all that much, but I guess I’ll have to for the moment ;o)

PS: EVA: I read somewhere here you’re from Germany!? Well I am too, so greetings from a fellow German ;o) Are you simming too? You seem to speak English rather well :o)

  18. So glad to see updates… but of course it’s supposed to be for *fun*, right? So do whatever is fun for you! We’re just along for the ride. ;-)
