Nightlife is Happenin’

So how many of you have played Nightlife? What are your first impressions? I think it’s pretty cool so far. My favorite new feature is definitely the ability to see your neighbors when you’re in a given lot — I wanted to weep for joy the first time I went into a Mt. Geneva lot and saw other houses around, and trees, and the water tower! It feels so much more like a real neighborhood now and will add so much to stories and pictures. Unfortunately the graphics of the surrounding structures are fairly crude — it’s just like when you hit “Tab” in Neighborhood view and zoom in. But I realize if they rendered everything in the highest detail it would really slow down gameplay.

Another thing I was happy about were the new animations for Sims chatting while eating at the dinner table. Whenever someone spoke, they used to turn their heads slowly and look at them with stupid expressions on their faces. Now the motion is much more realistic. The cars and vampires are neat additions to the game, but more than anything I appreciate the little improvements like those animations. I think they’ve also improved Sim AI as far as downtown lots go — Sims don’t mill around just asking each other to dance and getting rejected. They play pool, they dance solo to the DJ, play poker, bowl, dine out, order drinks, strike up conversation — it makes for a much more dynamic community lot experience.

As far as updates go, I have to confess I’ve enjoyed taking a little break from them. I’ve gotten more housework done (though my bedroom still looks like I just moved in!) and spent more time with my family, which is nice. I’m itching to get back to my stories, though, and plan on writing one tonight or tomorrow. It’ll either be a Maude’s Tale or perhaps the Braytons. Until then, thanks to everyone for continuing to stop by despite my lack of updates. Take care and happy Simming!

  1. I really am enjoying Night Life.

I did a clean install and everything seems to be working fine…I was itching to get rid of all the stuff I had in my folder, so this was the perfect excuse. I’m going to TRY to keep the downloads to a minimum.

I haven’t come across any vampire yet but I really do enjoy all that you mentioned plus more. I think the turn ons and offs are fun , make matching Sims up a wee bit harder plus the new socials like asking if they like what they see is fun.

I’m going to try to finish my current legacy family with NL as I’m close to g. 8 now :)

Oh and gotta love the fun stuff that goes on in those cars

  2. I love Night Life! I haven’t come across a vampire yet either. But I’m trying to! Lol, I want a neighborhood full of vamps. I love the cars and garages! And one of my favorite things to do in TS1 after Hot Date, was building restaurants. I dunno why! But now I’m back to doing that. I have one Downtown in my game now with nothing but different kinds of restaurants! Lol, so much fun. And I hate to say it…but I’m already really looking forward to the next expansion pack. The one where you can run your own home business and stuff! That’s going to be awesome!

    P.S.
Can’t wait for you to update again Jen! Your stories always inspire me!

  3. I don’t have the game yet, it’s difficult to get it while I’m in Germany. I have to either buy it online and have it shipped to my mother in New York, who then ships it to me or I have her buy it and ship it to me and find some way to pay her back. Still, it takes at least four weeks after it comes out. :( I cannot wait to play it though, I’ve been devouring every photo, movie and story I can find about NightLife. I’m happy some of my blogging friends are playing it though. :) Perhaps I’ll see more photos.

  4. I havent gotten nightlife yet and i am debating whether i shall. I have homework, but i need some time to do other things right? I always try to justify my obsession with the sims on the fact that in need a break. I hope you update with the Braytons because you know how much i love them, but whatever you do is up to you because I am not writing it and I dont know how hard it is to write an update so..do whatever you enjoy. My brother said i should buy Nightlife but who is he to tell me what to do? He doesnt have any money to help me buy the game haha.

  5. I agree, the Turn-ons and Turn-offs are fun — I just wish they had more of them! There’s so many more they could have added, like aspirations, personality, occupation…but I suppose those aren’t based on appearance (as the existing ones are). Maybe someone will come up with a hack that adds more. :-)

My sister and I created a group of 4 Pleasure-seekers for our first adventures in Nightlife, and they did run into a vampire — it was the Contessa something-or-other. She was playing cards. :-) I’m not sure if I’ll get any of my Sims bitten, because once you get one Sim bitten, it sounds like the vampires will start biting townies, and you can end up with a lot of vampires running around. But I could be wrong on that.

Amanda, I hope you can get your NL soon!

Eva, if I were a student right now I wouldn’t be getting any homework done because I’d just HAVE to play Sims instead…so I can totally understand your hesitance over getting NL! But you sound like you’re pretty responsible. :-)

I’ll probably post the Maude’s Tale tonight, then work on the Braytons over the weekend since they take a little longer. I’ve finally figured out what direction I’m going in with all of my families (it hit me an hour ago when I was in the restroom, of all places), so I’m excited to get going again with my stories. Thanks to everyone for being awesome. :-)

  6. =D. The restroom is the best place to come up with ideas. Seriously. I was writing a paper for my class and i came up with this amazing thesis statement so i had to go write it down. There is just something about the restroom that makes everything seem easier. Haha. I cant wait until you update and i am extremely happy that you have figured out which way you want to go with your families. It makes me excited. Yay..the braytons will return.

  7. I’m enjoying Nightlife so far. I was a little hesitant to purchase it since the whole dating thing or cars doesn’t interest me all that much, but I love some of the new interactions like slow dancing and everything. Haven’t run into a vampire yet.. but then again, I hardly ever venture from my family’s lots.. they just hang out at home a lot. But yes, I am enjoying Nightlife (and I am SO HAPPY that they fixed the A+ dance so that they only do it the first time!).

My only complaint is that I wish they’d made new interactions between family members.. especially children and toddlers. But, I guess they’re saving that for a more family-themed EP? I’ve read on the official BBS that people have noticed they seem to be doing expansions related to aspirations (Uni=Knowledge, Nightlife=Romance, Business=Fortune…) so I hope they’re planning to do a future EP for Family sims.. include pets and all sorts of new interactions between the various ages (I, for one, would LOVE if an elder could sit a toddler or child on their lap and tell them a story that way.. and others could gather around to listen and such).

Anyway. Enough of my rambling. I am enjoying Nightlife, yes. XD

  8. Eva – Haha, you are right, the restroom is great for ideas. So is the shower! I come up with all my best ideas in the shower. It must be the warm water and the shampoo stimulating the brain…

Audrey – Ooh, I didn’t know they fixed the A+ dance! That’s awesome. And you’re right, it does seem like they’re doing expansions related to aspirations. I never noticed that! I bet you anything a Family-themed EP is in the works — maybe it’ll be like Vacation or Unleashed. I agree, it would be so cool if a child could sit on their grandparents’ lap and listen to stories! I think it’d be cool if they could also read them bedtime stories in bed or on a sofa or something. We also need baby strollers, toddler swings, and a jungle gym. ;-) BTW, I’m happy you updated your blog again! Whee!

Can you guys tell I’m bored at work today?

  9. I’ve got NightLife as well! I haveen’t met a vampire yet, but then I’ve only been DownTown twice. I’m glad they got rid of that hullabaloo everytime a SimKid brought home an A+, that was annoying. Anyway, I can’t wait for the next update, no matter what it is!

  10. My copy of Nightlife came in the mail this afternoon, and I ran straight to the computer to install it. ;-) I’ve only played it for a couple of hours, but so far I’m very impressed. I really like the added realism of the new interactions and activities… and the smustle is super cute.

Funny, I sent two different Sims downtown and saw three different vampires milling about!

I have the same problem with Nightlife that I’ve always had with community lots, though: my Sim can do one or two things (have a drink, chat up a stranger, etc.) before he or she is exhausted and has to go home. It hardly makes it worth it to exit the home lot and wait for the downtown lot to load. I just can’t figure out how to keep their energy levels up.

But Audrey’s comment above is *really* intriguing to me. I’d never thought about the EPs being aspiration-themed, but it makes sense! Now I’m excited about a Family EP, too. I’d like to see a little more variation in the babies’ features.
