Soon-soon

Hey, folks. I’ve been doing some serious thinking about my blog lately, and I’ve decided that it’s time to move on. This was a tough decision to make. I hate to leave so many stories dangling and so many projects half-finished. But I’ve grown disenchanted with Simming and blogging and all that stuff over the last few months, and I need to take a big step back.

I won’t be leaving the community for good; SimScribes will stay open, but I’ll be posting there even less than I do now. If anyone would like to become a moderator there, let me know! That site deserves a leader who will pay more attention to things.

And I’m not quitting the Sims entirely. I’m sure I will play from time to time. For one, Kay and I are working on a shared hood, and I don’t want to give that up. And who knows, maybe we’ll post some pictures of it somewhere when it gets off the ground.

Perhaps down the road when The Sims 3 comes out, I’ll return to the blogging world. But I won’t be posting on Mt. Geneva anymore. It’s done for good. I’m going to leave the site up, but it will be in archival mode, for the most part.

It’s been a fun ride, and I’m sincerely thankful for all of the inspiration and feedback you guys have given me over the past three years. You guys are the best! I hope you all continue to have fun with the Sims or whatever else you enjoy, be it grilled cheese, pet womrats, or playing pirate in your bathtub. ;-)

Happy Simming!

  1. *waves solemnly*

You are the best and will be missed…

Oh, wait. You ain’t dying, just not blogging anymore!

You know how I feel about this and I support you wholeheartedly.

    Hugs!!

  2. I am sorry to here that but I can understand completely. Sometimes it is good to take a break and get back to more important things like “reality”. I will miss you and this blog terribly and hope that maybe someday the mood to blog will come back. I have 1 request if it is at all possible could you upload Fran’s family to the exchange so maybe some of “her” fans could go on with her life and maybe her boyfriends family to?

  3. *CRIES*

No more Franchesca Diaries? No more really cool images of the neighborhoods you were creating? No more … jen?

    *CRIES*

I have serious doubts about what Maxis/EA could put into Sims 3 to make it equal-to/better than Sims 2 … so … I guess this means no more sim blog from you forever. :O((

Well, you do what you have to do. Sometimes that’s all that can be done.

    *hugs*

  4. About time you got a vacation, lady. :D I’m glad you’re keeping MG up in archival mode, though: best of both worlds IMO. You get to relax, and people can still see your awesome stories.

  5. WHAT? You mean to tell me that after all these years, you’re calling it quits? Oh…wait..that would be a good reason to leave. Well, I can’t say that I enjoy the idea of it, but you have got to do what makes you happy. The last time I checked, blogs were made to make the person writing them have some sort of escape. Now that it isn’t so much of an escape as it is torture, I suppose that the time has come for the end. Too bad, I was just getting all excited about Fran. Maybe a rundown on what would have happened will suffice??

  6. Nooooo! *is completely shocked* This is really bad news; I will miss your blogs so much! But I do think that you shouldn’t go on with it if you don’t enjoy it anymore, ’cause that would be wrong. I experienced the same thing with my blog: at a certain point, writing all those stories had become more of an obligation. So do what you gotta do, just know that I’ll miss you, your funny stories and the inspiration you gave me a lot! (I would like to know what the link between Fran and Ahanu Bay was, though. You can’t keep us in the dark like this! ;))

  7. Bummer.

But I get it. When it gets to be a chore, there’s really no reason to keep going. I hope you do come back after a break, though. We’ll all miss you!

  8. I felt the exact same way also Jen and took down my Sims 2 blog down back in May.

Since then I have found Second Life and I am happy playing in there.

  9. Oh my gosh Jen! I will definitely miss you! You inspired me not only to Sim, but to play and enjoy my game more, and now you’re gone? Wow… Well, I will miss you, and everything you have done for the Sims 2 Community! :)
    Bye Jen!

  10. Ah, Jen. There’s a part of me that wants to scream and cling to you and beg you to reconsider.. but the whole rest of me can understand that completely! I guess I’m feeling a bit the same way.. I play the game a bit, but anymore blogging is becoming a chore. A part of me is a little surprised that this comes on the heels of the BV release, since new EPs are usually what kick everyone into Lots-O-Updates mode.. but alas, that’s life, eh?

It’s safe to say that your blog will be very, very dearly missed, and I know I’m speaking for more people than just myself when I say that. You’ve been a wonderful inspiration. Without you and your Shanley’s I might not have ever given the Legacy Challenge or Sims Blogging a try.

And you had better show your face around SimScribes every once in a while so we know you haven’t dropped off the face of the planet. Don’t make me have to sic an alpaca on you, now. ;D

    Many hugs!
    — Audrey

  11. Aww, Jen! Your blog inspired me to start mine & I’m so very thankful for your stories & your words of encouragement. Your talent with the sims is amazing! You’ll be missed & I’ll hate reading about Franchesca, she was a blast!

Thank you for sharing your time with us! God bless you in your future!

    HUGS!
    Amy

  12. Oh no Jen! Say it ain’t so! MG is the first blog I check everyday when I get home from work…what am I going to do now?! Heehee, while your blog and your stories will be missed tremendously…your person will be missed the most! Please don’t be a stranger, and check in with your ol’ simming buddies every now and then! Please! Hope everything works out for ya, and I hope you miss simming so much that you’re back in a month!

  13. Jen,
While I’ve mostly been a lurker on your blog, I’ve been an avid reader, since back when Bree and Kiara Shanley were born. You may remember me from a long while ago, when I was really interested in your houses.
Your blog is the first sims blog I check, and I use the links you have up to get to most of the other blogs I read.
I will really miss your site. You always managed to make me laugh at how silly sims are, and get me interested in my own game again. I still think your houses are lovely, and I’ve especially enjoyed your stories.
I agree that blogging shouldn’t feel like a chore, but I’m still very sorry to see you go.

  14. What? This means I going to need to go find something else to fill the time I spend checking your site. *grumbles* Though I guess it will end up being a webcomic, already reading a ton of them.

I’ll miss your stories, they were well written and often gave me ideas that inspired me to play or try out different things. Enjoy yourself whatever you do, just don’t forget about SimScribes M’kay?

  15. No!!!!!! Don’t leave me fran!!!! Jen, i’m sadden by this news but i’ll say a prayer for you, hope i’ll read your stories soon, promise you will feed me good stories when you are back ok? Take care!

  16. Oh, Jen. You’ve so really inspirational to us all. You will be missed in all ways, but your decision and actions are completely understandable.

    Much

  17. I’m very sad to see you go but there’s no reason you should have to keep going if you’re not enjoying it any more.

  18. WTG Mao for messing up your own comment!

Short and sweet recap: you’ve been an inspiration and will be missed. Much love, and continue being freakin’ awesome in RL and whatever else you do.

  19. Aw. I’ll be missing this blog so much but your reasons are clear and understandable. I wish you the best of everything Jen.

  20. Really!? No! Oh, wow. This is so upsetting. I only read two Sims 2 blogs regularly, and yours is one of them. No! No!

Sorry, I needed (and still need) some time to get over the fact that you’re leaving Mt. Geneva behind–but I understand your decision. You’ve gotta do what makes you happy. (Just give me time to get acclimated to a world without Mt. Geneva.)

  21. Hey Jen,

Farewell, I suppose. I completely understand your decision, as I’ve been toying with shutting down my blog as well. I was here from when the Shanleys were just getting started, and I will truly miss this place. Thanks for not getting rid of it entirely, and I hope to still see you around.

    ~ Vivi :(

  22. Aw this is sad news :'( Well I don’t want reiterate what everyone has said, but it is true that you’ve been an inspiration to so many in the Sim blogging world, including myself. You’ll be surely missed. Hope to still see you on the SimScribes forum.

    ~Jadice

  23. Long time reader, first (or is that second?) time poster:

I had a great time reading and watching your stories, and frankly am quite sad that I won’t see them continuing, but I’m sure that Franchesca and everyone else there will be happy…
Just wanted to say thanks! (oh, and- Good luck in reality!) :)

  24. Hi. I am sad to see this blog go I support your decision to stop bloging after all there’s no use in writing something if you’re not having fun.

Anyway thanks for the brillant stories you wrote and I wish you luck in whatever it is you are going to do.

    Take care!.

    See ya.

  25. You’re going? Say it isn’t so! Ah well, things come and go. Mt. Geneva will be missed, but I suppose everything has it’s time! See you around Jen.

    – Dave

  26. Oh nooo! :( and what about Fran? :( …and I was really excited about Ahanu bay :(( OK, let’s go.
    bye Jen!

    :(

  27. Wow. Totally unexpected. But totally understood. I’ve been considering abandoning blogging as well. I guess the old generation of simmers is beginning to die out.
I’m so sad to see you go, but I’m happy for you too. Contrary to what a lot of us sim nuts might believe, there are other things in life!
Your blog was brilliant, and you really put time and effort into it. We all appreciated it.
    See you around,
    Katie.

  28. Like everyone else, I have to say how much your stories and images will very much be missed. Thank you for giving us these glimpses of some very remarkable places and the characters that inhabited them.

  29. Wow, your leaving?? Thats wow. Your blogs are really good and you will be missed much here and in the sims community

  30. Goodbye Jen. I have throughly enjoyed your blogs since practically the beginning. I followed the Killmans, the Dobbins, the Blakemores, and of course the Shanleys back in 2004 before I got the Sims 2 for Christmas and I eagerly looked forward to all your updates as a teaser until I got the real game. Fast Forward 3 years later and I still am enjoying all your stories. You are a wonderful talent and will be sorely missed. Good Luck in ALL your future endeavors!!!!!!!!!!

  31. im so sorry i got disconnected from jenba(meaning i don’t comment much anymore), but i DEFINETLY will read anything you might put up as a last post! i will definetly miss your stories, they’re fun to just check up on occasionally!! hopefuly when/if sims 3 comes out i will come across your (crossing fingers) blog!

    ciao for now!

  32. Wow Jen, that’s some sort of news!
I’ll miss it, though I don’t really post comments here anymore, though I’ve quickly given up on getting the Morrigan-blog (remember?!) on to generation 7 and though I’ve never gotten a second blog started…. I am STILL reading your blog from time to time and STILL loving it.
Thanks for the good time, thanks for being the best sims2-blogger ever, thanks for having let us take part in the best sims2-family (Shanleys) ever! Thanks for your inspiration and motivation!
And have much fun with whatever project will be your next.
Best wishes from your biggest flight-attendant-fan from Germany ;)
