Hey, folks. My grandpa passed away on Friday, so I’ll be away from my computer for the next few days as I attend the funeral and spend time with family. I’m doing fine, but I wanted to explain to you guys in case you wonder why I’m not answering comments or e-mails (or posting updates…).
Needless to say, I didn’t get the Fran update finished. I found it more relaxing to work on Annabel Island…at least, it was relaxing until I discovered that all of my Annabel Island houses crash when I try to enter the lots. D’oh! It probably has something to do with the way I packaged them, or the fact that they’re from one billion expansions ago, but I’m not sure. I even tried loading the old Annabel Island ‘hood from a back-up I made, but that didn’t work, either.
The Annabel Island that is no more
So here’s what I’m going to do. A long time ago I made clones of the Annabel Island folks so I could use their face templates for another project. I’m going to use those face templates now to re-create the inhabitants of the island. So at least I’ll have the same people. As for the houses, I’m going to re-build. You see, a terrible storm swept over the island, destroying (or nearly destroying) many of the homes and businesses. Thankfully, everyone has home insurance, plus Dr. Dunnavant and that other millionaire, Max De Groff, have contributed money towards the rebuilding of the town. Pretty generous of them, eh?
The very generous Dr. Dunnavant (before the storm hit)
I know you guys were probably looking forward to a tour of Dunnavant mansion and such, but I would have had to redo much of it anyway, since I’m using only stuff from free sites now. Hopefully the new Dunnavant mansion will strike your fancy as much as the first did. I’m really looking forward to doing some building and decorating. It’s been way too long.
So think of this as the New! and Improved! Annabel Island. I’m excited about it, and I hope you’ll enjoy it, too. Anyway, I couldn’t disappear for a week without giving you at least one picture of something. So here’s the new and improved version of Whidbee Farm, but only a tiny bit of it, since I’m having roof problems.

(I apologize if the pic is too dark — it looked fine on my computer at home, but now that I’m at work, its really tough to see.)
Hope you guys have a great week. See you soon!
Ack, that’s not a happy fun reason for long time away from online! :/ I’m so sorry to hear about your grandpa, Jen. No need to say anything more past ‘real life’ and ‘funeral’, really: either or of those two takes precedence.
I tell you, whenever I’m particularly happy with a Sim’s appearance these days I make a template backup of them too. See: Landgraab, as well you know. :D
Dr. Dunnavant is looking as dashing as ever! *muses* Was it Annabel Island that had that particularly gossip-y mean redheaded maid trying to stir up trouble? I really liked her. XD
Gorgeous pics as always, by the way. So nice and crisp!
I’m so sorry to hear about your Grandpa Jen :( It is so awful when these things happen. I am sending big virtual hugs you way.
Hi. I’m sorry about your Grandpa I hope that you and your family are ok.
I like the pics of Annabell Island it’s a shame that you have to re-build the whole thing though.
Take care
See ya.
I’m sorry to hear of your lose Jen, I hope that the funeral is a lovely affair that reminds you of all the great times you had with him. Keep well, and return to simming when your good and ready.
The same thing happened to me with my ISBI house, Jen. It must be the expansions thing… very strange.
Sorry to hear about your grandpa… my thoughts to your family in their time of mourning. :(
Hey, Jen! My condolences to you and your family, your grandpa must have been pretty cool (hey, he has you for a granddaughter!). I’m glad you’re trying to rebuild Annabelle Island, it’s so cool. ;) PLUS, you can include Pets now!!! Good luck and I can’t wait for the fran update!
I’ll be thinking of you and your family as you say good-bye to your grandpa. I hope your heart will remain full of happy memories of his life.
Sorry to hear about the death in your family Jen. That’s always hard to deal with. Take your time, and spend some good quality time with your family. Hope everything gets better for you guys. My prayers are definitely with you all! And I look forward to the New! and Improved! Annabell Island!
Hi, sorry to hear that, cheer up! Waiting to see the new and improved Annabel Island!
POOR JEN!!!!! this must have been a hard week! first ur gramps then the whole town crashes! but lets look at the bright side of all of that:
it was his time i guess and you get to start over with a new slate! hopefully, that cheered you up, if not, im not suprised, because im not that good at that….
*stares at liz* …
Aww, I’m sorry about your grandpa. :( I recently lost a close one too (well, by recent I mean one month ago).
I’m sure that Annabel Island will be great with all of those new expansion packs. As for that dark picture, it’s not that dark. Actually, it looks pretty cool and old-timey.
And I have a question, that may make me sound really stupid. But how do you make copies of the Sims that are already in your game?
im sorry about your loss jen. im sure everything will be fine soon! xxxxxxxx i love your site xxxxxx and all your familys im adicted i only just started to read all of the others like the burrs and the braytons thats only because i was adicted to the shanleys for ages ! xxxxxx xoxoxoxoxox
Sorry about your grandfather, I know how tough that can be.
And about your neighborhood. (That can be pretty tough, too.)
But I know you love to build, so hopefully you will have fun recreating Annabel Island.
Looking forward to it!
Sorry im commenting twice! everyone has to deal with losses and i know that they can be very hard from personal experience
so i hope you feel gd soon xxxx
I’m sorry to hear about your loss, Jen, and I’m sorry to be so late jumping in to say so. I saw the entry the day you posted it, but I couldn’t think of anything to say :(
I hope things feel better for you soon!
*hugs* So sorry to hear about your grandfather, Jen. :( I lost one of mine a year ago January. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Oh Jen! I’m very sorry to hear about your Grandpa. The pictures look great. I look forward to anything you do. Blessings and peace to you and your family.
Thanks for the condolences, everyone. You guys are the best.
Rachel, to answer your question about cloning Sims which are already in the game — I followed this tutorial on MTS2. Things might look a little different now that there’s a new version of SimPE out, but the basic instructions still work. Let me know if you have any questions about it!
I’m so sorry to hear about your grandfather. I had no idea … I was wondering why you’d be so quiet as of late. You have my most sincere condolences on your family’s loss. The pictures here look great though … the last one is kinda dark, but I can see it. :O)
Somehow I missed a bunch of your updates. I’m very sorry to hear of your loss.
It sure does bite when our sims become corrupted! Especially when the back-ups don’t work. At least you had clones of your characters. I look forward to seeing more.
