Has your Sims 2 gameplay become a bit stale? Are you wishing you could add more unpredictability to your Sims’ lives? Then you might want to check out Jade’s Random Occurrence Scenarios (or ROS)! She has created a huge list of random events that can happen to your Sims and spice up your storytelling and/or gameplay. To pick an event, you roll a set of numbers using online dice, then find the numbers on the list and follow the instructions. The situations run the gamut from a minor things like winning a small cash prize to major life-changing events such as kidnapping, alien invasions, and even death (which is quite life-changing, you must admit). Just reading through the list is highly inspiring. I personally can’t wait to try these out, and will most likely be incorporating them into my Shady Bluff stories. I also think it’d be cool to come up with a storytelling challenge involving the ROS. Maybe I’ll work on that after I finish the fifteen other projects I have going on…
Jade’s also doing a tutorial on how she set up her neighborhood, Thyme. She has posted the first part of the tutorial, which covers choosing a terrain for your ‘hood, installing it, and cleaning it up. In future installments she’ll explain how to set up your own Sims economy. She has her player Sims doing NPC jobs and the like, and I’m dying to know how she does it. Anyway, if you haven’t checked out her site, you really should! It’s totally unique in the world of Sims 2 storytelling.
Also, one of my favorite Sims 2 storytellers and all-around awesome person Amy (known to some as the Evil Overlord, mwaha) has posted a really touching episode of Confessions of an Heiress (make sure you watch the video!). What can I say — it made me cry. Maybe I’m just a big old sap, but I have to give Amy credit for being so close to her characters and presenting their lives in such a way that they feel real. If you’ve been following her stories at all, her latest installment is a must-see. And if you haven’t been following her stories, then you’re missing out on some awesome stuff (The Heiress should be required reading for all fans of Sims 2 stories).
Happy Simming!
Cool idea – the ROS site. I’m attempting my first legacy challenge currently so I have enough excitement to keep me busy at the moment (it will take me 5 years to complete it at the rate I play!) but I will definately keep this site at hand for future game play.
I absolutely ADORE the Legalos Legacy. This was actually the very first legacy site I stumbled upon and I spent literally all day reading the stories from the very beginning. I agree that the Heiress should be required reading for Sims 2 fans! If you’ve been reading Amy’s stories from the very beginning I don’t see how you wouldn’t tear up a bit at the most recent video. The music will also really get ya.
I was away for the weekend and imagine my surprise when I came back to find the beginning of a brand new story from Jen AND an Heiress update. I’m in sim blog fan’s heaven. :-)
I’m definitely going to try out that ROS thing. It sounds really neat. Too bad that some of it involves using cheats or whatever.. it would be fun to incorporate into legacy challenge stories sometimes. :D
I third the motion of reading Amy’s Legalos stories! I think I got into ’em right in the middle of The Heiress. And I’ll admit to getting all teary-eyed watching the most recent video. If you haven’t already… Go! Read! It’s good stuff!
I didn’t start reading until the end of ‘The Heiress.’ I remember I thought it was just another reality show spinoff, so I didn’t pay much attention. (I’m not one for reality anything) Then she came out with Confessions and I was hooked. Love, love, love it! Totally didn’t expect that twist, either. Very awesome. I also like her other Legacy Challenge. Cracks me up.
Oh Jen, I am so grateful you pimped my site. You know I have spent hours reading your site for two years and I rarely comment, but you are the QUEEN BEE of sim bloggers and I was so happy when you came to visit Thyme! Thanks and hugs!
Jade
Oh yeah, and I would LOVE to do a storytelling challenge using the ROS. And if anyone reading this comes up with more scenarios, just leave me a comment with your idea here:

And if I add it, I will give you full pimpin’ credit! :-)
Hi Jen! Sorry that this comment is completely offtopic with your post, but I just wanted to thank you for your comment on my blog :). Blogger is being weird though, so I don’t know if it showed up, so just in case it says that I rejected you or something it’s not true! Blogger is so weird sometimes >_
Oh Jen, I’m flattered to receive mention at Mt. Geneva. *Waves to Heiress fans* *You guys rock! I’m so glad you enjoyed the latest episode and video!* I really can’t imagine the Legalos family without Shanley Manor, and I consider you an integral part of the entire thing. You are a pioneer in Sim Writing, and I was reading Shanley’s long before I was ever writing Legalos’ So I am only following in your footsteps. I love the adventures at Mt Geneva (and beyond) Thanks for the tip on Jade’s ROS, I’m definitely going to check that out! Long live Mt Geneva! As a matter of fact – being Halloween – I was remember the Halloween Family picture you did of the Ravelo’s last year. :D
