More of a Challenge

Just for kicks I started a Legacy family last night based on Pinstar’s new Legacy Challenge rules. I gave my founder several handicaps, one of which I already broke (d’oh). I’m enjoying the new challenge immensely, though — it’s more difficult with some of those handicaps. “Middle of Nowhere” especially makes the going very tough — you can purchase only 1 item per day from the Buy menu, and only 2 items from the Build menu. Yes, that means if you want to build a new room, you can only build 2 wall sections per day. So they won’t be living in a mansion any time soon.

I may post some pics of my new family eventually, but I’m going to wait a bit, since I seem to have a bit of Sims 2-related ADD (tm Kay) lately. I’d hate to write about them only to abandon them after a week like I did with the unfortunate Wines family. Speaking of the Wines, I love the ISBI Challenge but it’s only fun if your Sims do crazy, idiotic things, and well, the Wines didn’t do anything but sleep, eat, work, and play chess. Not very exciting. Something like that might have been fresh and funny back in October 2004 when the game was new and we didn’t have stuff packs up the ying-yang, but by now it’s just old hat. (Actually, I just have boring Sims. Or I’m not very imaginative. Because Mao has a most excellent ISBI family going, and Bitsy had a great one for awhile, too — not sure if she’s still doing it.)

That’s why I’m really digging the new handicaps and master points for the Legacy Challenge. It gives the game a different twist. I’m seriously going for points this time, too, which makes it different — there WILL be an alien-zombie-vampire in this family, by golly! Mark my words. Also, many ghosts. I never went for the ghost colors before — now I am. Should be interesting.

Ravelo update coming in the near future – stay tuned!

  1. Heya Jen! Guess what, I got myself the UNI EP!! Can’t believe it, after two years of sims 2 alive I’ve finally managed to get me to an expansion pack *lol*. I am in fact playing the Mendoza’s, but your mentioning a new legacy challenge seems very (I repeat – VERY) interesting. I guess I’m going to try that ;) And of course I am more than excited to read about the Ravelos and about your new family, that’s true! Oh – by the way, do you know anyone living in Denver? Because it’s on my flight-schedule, I’m finally going to the states again! Can’t wait for that ;) I had my first flight as a flight attendant last week, went to Bangkok, and tomorrow I’ll be going to Madras, India. And well, I have MUCH spare time since that course is over and I am truly flying! Let’s see how this will influence me on my simming… and blogging… *g* – keep up your motivation, it’s great!! XXX Eva

  2. The new rules sound interesting! I may have to give them a go.. but I’m holding off on my Sims until Pets comes out. It’s just too ahrd to play knowing that they could have dogs and cats soon!

  3. Yaaaay! :D *does the Sims 2 ADD happy dance*
And yes, I think going all the way for points is what made the difference between previous Legacies and the Whittingham’s. I’ve not tried the Greek House thing since Uni first came out, I’ve never gone for the 5 top level businesses etc. It makes everything a lot more fun! :D Do tell us what handicaps you ended up picking?

  4. Eva! Congratulations on your first flight! Wow, you’re flying all over the place. Awesome. I don’t know anyone in Denver, but I’ve heard it’s a nice city. Best of luck with your new job – it sounds very exciting! And wow, you finally got the Uni EP! Wheee! I hope you’re having a good time with it.

Audrey! Haven’t seen you in awhile! I know what you mean – Pets has to be the most eagerly anticipated expansion pack ever. I look forward to adding pets to all of my Legacy families – I wonder how they will affect Pinstar’s new rules? Anyway, good to see you!

Kay, I will certainly tell you which handicaps I picked — I’ll more than likely post something tonight or tomorrow.

And kitty, I accidentally deleted your comment! I’m a dope. I was trying to get rid of spam and hit the wrong button. Thanks so much for your comment and I apologize for making it go *poof*. :-(

  5. Definite hats off to you for going the Legacy route with handicaps! I read them and while some of them aren’t too bad, others–like the crazy apocalypse one–are just “whoa!” I could never do that. Here’s hoping the ADD subsides and we get to hear about this new family. Good luck with the points!

Thanks for the pimping, too. I didn’t think I’d be able to stick with it, but I’ll definitely keep on keepin’ on with the crazy Lexes… I’ve never had such a crazy family without causing it myself!

  6. While I’m too chicken to bother with the new rules for the Legacy Challenge
(maybe I’ll give it a go if I start a new legacy), I’d love to see how you handle them Jen! I can’t wait to see this new family! :)

  7. I updated! It’s kind of small and has a hasty feel to it, but then again there hasn’t been all that much going on in Harvey’s life. Well, other than the wedding. ;)

  8. Ooh. I went to the Legacy Challenge web site recently, and downloaded the Apocalypse Challenge rules. Next time I play, I’m going to start one of those up.
I noticed there were new Legacy rules, but didn’t check them out until just now. They seem pretty nice! I like how you can actually use “kaching”, even though it takes away points. I also really like how you can pick an aspiration yourself once you’ve “unlocked” it, so to speak! Cool.
That Middle of Nowhere restriction sounds interesting. The first thing to purchase is a fridge, right?
    I still like the old rules, though. ^^;

I would totally have two or three zombie vampire aliens in my game, but I have no University to turn them into zombies. Oh, well! I’ll have to make do with vampire aliens. Maybe even vampire alien werewolves, when I get Pets. Blearoooohtakeustoyourleader?

  9. Haha, Blu, that’s classic. Are they really going to have werewolves in Pets? That would rock something fierce. And ooh, if you do Apocalypse, please update on your blog or at least let us know here how it’s going! I am actually trying it, too – going to see which one turns out the most interesting (Apocalypse or my new Legacy) and post that one. Got my founder through university last night, which was painful enough, and I didn’t even have any restrictions yet! (I hate university, sigh)

Jadice – Hi there! I’m definitely going to post something soon — either my new Legacy family or my new Apocalypse family. Trying both to see which one is the most fun. Thanks so much for your comment!

Kay – Coolstuff! Yeah, I love that hidden Maxis content. I had to download that stuff at least for the new colors of male PJs. Thanks!! And YAY, you updated! I loved it. More more.

  10. Jen, thank you for your comments on my blog as well! My blog is a little weird sometimes, so I’ll answer you on here. Yes, Jan was a Popularity Sim. I figured that was why everyone thought about her, but I wasn’t sure, cause my game has done some weird stuff ha ha. And yeah! The ghosts are such a pain! And I know you’re no stranger to it, poor poor Patrick Shanley. What’s funny, is despite me saying on my blog that I surrounded them by water, my pictures tell me that I didn’t start surrounding the cemetary itself until later, because I have more than one incident that Jan is roaming around the lot XD. I can’t wait to see your new family! Good luck with it! :)

    ~J

  11. Yes, there will be werewolves! :D One screenshot shows that you’ll be able to buy anti-lycanthropy potions from the pet trainer. Apparently how it will work is that occasionally there’ll be these wolves with glowing eyes hounding (if you pardon the pun) your Sim’s lots and scaring your Sims. If your Sim then gets bitten by one of them they’ll turn into a werewolf! I’m hoping you can buy some kind of silver gadget to ward them away if you want. The wolves themselves look pretty cool.

Jen – I also found a mod that lets (finally!) adult Sims use young adult clothes. :D The Caliente sisters will now have more than one choice for ittybitty bikinis!

  12. Jadice – Wow, you remember Patrick Shanley! Yeah, that was unfortunate. You’re wise to surround your ghosts with water! I bet Jan would love to scare someone to death…heehee.

Kay – OHMYGOD THAT IS SO COOL! I love werewolves! I used to have a geeky obsession with them. Now I really can’t wait for Pets! And that mod sounds awesome — where did you find it? MTS2?

  13. *dies* XD I know! And yah, MTS2’s where it’s at! I don’t have a direct link for you, but they’re made by windkeeper. Whilst you’re there, check out the stuff by simsbaby. He’s extracted an extra bushy beard as well as the therapist’s eyebrows and moustache. :D ….. YOU MADE AN UPDATE! *Zoooooms to read!*
