You Gotta Have Friends

Melody soon found out that what Trevor meant by “a few” was more like “five of my closest friends and their friends and their friends’ cousins”, but she didn’t mind, since she was in the mood to socialize.

In fact, she was feeling so bold that she shook hands with the host at Londoste and introduced herself as “Melody Wines, the new girl in Northcliff.”

“Enchanted, Ms. Wines,” replied the dapper old gent. “My name is Paris Noble. Welcome to Londoste Fine Dining. How many in your party?”

Melody Wines

Melody laughed. “Seven? Eight? I’ve lost count.”

She glanced back at Trevor, who had turned out to be quite the cutie – cowboy hat, mesmerizing gray eyes, a rugged layer of stubble covering his chin.

“Eight,” he said with a friendly smile.

Hmm, did she detect a hint of attraction there? Probably not. He seemed comfortable, very laid-back, but not especially aflutter over her. Ah well, she thought. He’s a new friend at the very least.

The restaurant was nicely furnished but very poorly lit. At the table, Melody squinted at the menu. “Where’s the grilled cheese?” she asked no one in particular.

Melody Wines

“We don’t serve grilled cheese here, ma’am,” the waiter sniffed.

Melody was crushed. She sighed loudly and ordered the fried chicken dinner instead.

After the waiter left she turned to Trevor and put on her most cheerful expression. “Well, I hope the fried chicken is good! Can you believe they don’t have grilled cheese?”

Melody Wines

But Trevor seemed a little zoned.

Melody stared at his handsome profile a moment before turning towards the gentleman on her right, Raiden Berwyn. He wasn’t nearly as cute as Trevor, but he complimented her on her taste in food and said he knew how to make a mean grilled cheese.

“Ooh, really?” Melody leaned forward. “Can you give me the recipe?”

“I’m afraid I can’t,” said Raiden. “It’s one of the Berwyn family’s most closely guarded secrets.” When he saw Melody’s stricken face, he laughed good-naturedly. “I’m kidding, I’m kidding. Of course I’ll give you the recipe.”

Raiden instructed Melody in the fine art of making grilled cheese sandwiches until the food arrived. Nearly starving, Melody dug into her fried chicken with an enthusiasm that Raiden obviously appreciated.

Conversation continued around the table as everyone nibbled on their food.

“So what are we doing after dinner?” Trevor piped up. “How ’bout a game of bowling?”

“They’re closed,” said Raiden, frowning. “Got hit by a falling satellite.”

Melody jumped in. “Hey! Why don’t you guys come over to my place? I have a stereo! And…a bookshelf!”

Melody Wines

Raiden grinned. “Well, now, who could resist that? Hey everyone, dancing and group reading at Melody’s house!”

Trevor threw his napkin down and stood up. “Not before I get my chess game in,” he declared, his usual easygoing tone having vanished for a moment. Melody got the impression that he took chess very seriously indeed.

“I have chess at my house!” she exclaimed, but Trevor was already walking out of the room. “Excuse me,” she said to Raiden, who looked amused.

She found Trevor seated at a chess table on the other side of the restaurant. He was about to launch into a game against himself when Melody interrupted.

“Howdy, pardner. Need a pardner?”

Trevor glanced up in surprise and cracked a smile. “Well, sure, Miss Melody. It was rude of me to leave without asking if anyone wanted to play. They always turn me down, so I didn’t bother.”

“Well, I’m not very good, but I love to play.”

“That’s the important thing,” he drawled. Though his tone was gentle, his serious expression returned as his eyes focused on the chess pieces. Melody could tell he was getting down to business.

Trevor turned out to be a rather ruthless chess player. Melody had to concentrate so hard she thought her brain would explode. Whew-ee, she thought, I’d better practice more. He’s whuppin’ my hiney.

Melody Wines

Trevor checked Melody’s king in a matter of minutes and returned to his more relaxed attitude. “So…off to your place then?”

For a second Melody thought he was being fresh with her, then remembered she had invited everyone over. “Oh! Yes, of course. Off to my place!”

  1. Melody should definitely pick Raiden. He may not be as cute as Trevor, but he’s way funnier and way more talkative!

  2. Wow, I loved this update!! I am eagerly awaiting the next, I really want to see what Raiden looks like! I think Melody should definitely go with him.

    Thanks for the update finally!

    Leslie

  3. *works on setting up own website account and stuff* :D
Oh hey, Jen, have you been having problems with spam bots -> comments awaiting moderation and stuff? My previous one did. :o

  4. Loving this story! Of course, I love everything you write. She is so beautiful! And Trevor, what a hunk. Though he might take chess a LITTLE to seriously. First update and already a love triangle? Or…something like that…Anyway, amazing writing as usual, and I look forward to more! And congratulations on getting out of your slump! I haven’t been writing as much because of the start of school. Actually, I haven’t been playing either. : (

  5. I’m so glad you’re updating again, I missed reading your stories! I loved reading about Melody so far. I can’t wait to find out which guy she’ll choose. :)

  6. Actually, I know a recipe for the best grilled cheese sandwiches ever. I made some, just the other day! They were perfect– almost enough to make one want to stick one’s head into the aspiration-changing machine.
I can post it, if you like. *nod*

I like that picture on the last page, where Melody asks Trevor if he’s hungry. It looks lovely. :D

Man, though. Accursed Trevor, with his eat and run tendencies! *shakes fist at him* Good riddance to bad rubbish, I say.
And, hey, with Melody’s hairstyle, I can see you, too, have caught SunAir Fever, eh? :D I don’t have a TSR subscription, so I’m just sitting and pouncing on them whenever they enter the free rotation. (So far, three or four of them have. *dance*)

Glad to see you back! …I can’t say the same for CellieSims, though. I took it down– bandwidth issues. *shrug*
I’ve been doing a group uglification challenge over at Livejournal. The Ishkabibbles! So far, my Kajibble Ishkabibble lives in Bibblebrook. He has a daughter named Bibblianna, and a son named Ivan.
So far, it’s been great. Well, decent, anyway– Bibblianna is too cute… *sigh*

Well, even if it’s hard to accomplish her lifetime want, at least there’s the “call to meal” option. That thing is a lifesaver with ISBI challenges. It and influencing. I had such trouble running an ISBI challenge before I got Nightlife, I ended up just ditching the ISBI thing out of pity. They had adorable twins– I couldn’t let them suffer!
How on earth did she get Grilled Cheese wants, anyway? Do you have the Lifetime Wants hack from More Awesome Than You? With that hack, if she’s interested in food, I could see it happening…

  7. Your sim is beautiful. How do you get them to look so real, Is there a site with a really good tutorial that you use? My sims always look like cartoon characters.

  8. Oh this is fun! Yes. I can feel the peace and quiet. Eerie. I LOVE ‘talking to her hand’ Is there really a sim named Horatio Palmfeather??? Restaurants don’t serve grilled cheese? Thanks for the warning! A party with a radio and a bookshelf? And I wasn’t invited?? LOL. Love the picture of Melody making grilled cheese and Trevor on the couch. Wow. Oh I love this Jen. I can’t thank you enough for writing again. I can tell you’re having fun. Can’t wait for more!

  9. It had a bit of a rough start but it got a lot better. I could really tell she was desperate to get out of the house, and desperate to get with that guy. Poor thing, he only wanted her for her grill cheese. Hopefully things will get better. The pitures were great.

  10. hey Jen! is so nice to see you still active and with a lot of energy posting about your sims! as always great work now to browse other blogs^^ take care!
