ARGH!

Hey guys. I’m still having trouble with my Sims. I am THIS close to trashing everything — EVERYTHING! — and reinstalling the game. I am so frustrated. Anyway. I’ll probably come up with a less drastic solution, but until then, I’m giving my computer very threatening looks. I thought I had figured out the problem, but it went back to crashing, and spending 20+ hours of my life just sitting here waiting for my game to load so I can play for 15 minutes before it crashes, over and over and over again, has been annoying, to say the least. This game is supposed to be FUN, right? Anyway. Sorry to gripe. I hope I can get a story posted SOON.

UPDATE:
I didn’t mean to alarm anyone, as I doubt I’ll completely trash EVERYTHING. I can save my Sims themselves, just not all of their houses/clothes/hair, etc. I was just really frustrated last night. :-) I’m thinking of moving the Ravelos over to my “clean” account, so I can at least continue to play them. It just burns me because I’ve spent countless hours decorating houses with custom content (every house on Annabel Island, for example), and I’ll just have to re-do them without it, I think. I actually tried packaging all of my houses, removing my downloads, then re-installing the packaged lots, hoping all of the custom content contained in each lot would install, but it was very hit and miss. Some things installed, some didn’t. The De Groff house was a total mess. So I dunno. I’m just very bummed right now. But I’m sure the Ravelos at least will live on.

In the meantime, take a gander at poor Winnie Ternynck, cousin to the Ravelo girls, without the benefit of custom content (if you dare):

Poor Winnie

Pretty scary, isn’t it? Eyebrows = very good things.

  1. I’m having the same problem, however I just gave up. What I’m doing now is with any new houses I’m only adding custom content in little amounts, that way I can try and spot what the houses that crash have in common. I figure I’ll have to add the bloody thing to a house some time… anyway, hope you find out what it is, I know how frustrated I was before I gave up…

(Oh, and I’ve been lurking since some time waaay back with the Shanleys. So hello. (And I’m glad you didn’t restart them!))

  2. I hate to say it, but.. Trashing might be what’s necessary. I’ve done it a few times by now so I’m somewhat desensitized, but I remember having to do it the first time. AND I did not have the long established storylines that you do. :(
We’re there with you! *rallies troops*

  3. Hi jen. Im really sorry to hear about your game. You were lucky to have it running wth no problems for so long, maybe now is time for a reinstall?

Im having problems too. I logged into my blog this morning to find all my posts gone and a wordpress error printed there! I cant get the posts back, any ideas where they could have vanished to??

  4. My problem has been sorted now. Seems blogsome were having glitches or something. Thank goodness all my posts are back!
I really do hope you can save your sims Jen, and if not, then I cant wait to see what new families you decide to make if you reinstall.

  5. Oh *no,* that’s just awful!

If you have to trash, we’ll completely understand. It’s not like your talent is going anywhere. ;)

  6. Oh, dear. Poor Jen! I’ve trashed my game several times, but I’ve never had the storylines you have. Besides, this time I’m on a roll with my Victorian legacy and my downloads are on my D-drive: http://forums.modthesims2.com/archive/index.php/t-53400.html (It really might help; it’s worth a shot as my game now runs a lot more smoothly.)

If nothing can be salvaged, however, everything will still be fine. You won’t have the Ravelos, it’s true, but we’ll get to start over–and my favorite part of the legacy challenge is the very beginning, to be honest. We’re fans, above all, of /you/ and /your talent/, so we’ll be right here at your blog.

All that said, I’m going to potentially sacrifice some PCness and say: I’m sure there’s a way we can bring back Maude, even if you /do/ decide to trash. After all, she’s a ghost! Just kill another sim! …Right?

  7. Hey everyone, thanks for the encouraging words. You can tell I was having a bit of a meltdown last night. ;-) I’m feeling much better today.

Tizkopde – Thanks for commenting. Your blog looks cool!

Kath – I’m glad your site is OK — sorry I’m so behind on your posts! I’m going over there right now!

Keely – I will definitely look into that downloads on the D: drive thing — although I’m going to try to keep my downloads to a minimum from now on. :-S

  8. Oy oy oy oy oy!

You’re right – where on earth did Winnie get those awful genes from with such good-looking parents?

Go on, Jen. I know you’ll find a solution to your downloads problems. Let’s hope somebody (brighter than me) will think of something. Hey – I bet I’d have just given up by now, but you’re still going strong which is so great.

    Good luck, Jen!

  9. Oh sweety, what a hard time you’re having with something fun!!

I hope you figure out a solution soon, for your own peace of mind. I would hate to see Annabel Island go, but if it’s the way to keep you sane… Go for it!

  10. How frustrating, Jen! I’m really sorry for all the trouble you’ve been having with the game lately. Do you still have your hair or have you ripped it all out already? Whatever you decide to do, I hope you will start having fun with the game again…because, after all, that’s what the game is supposed to be.

  11. omg i’m so sory for you jen!! u must be having an awful time ! but don’t delete your games yet there might be a solution to all this … once again GOOD LUCK!

  12. I am so sorry for your problems! When it rains, it poors..I guess. I do love reading about the sims that you have, but if you do have to start over, then it will be just as great, (or better!), than before! I’ll still be here, enjoying your interesting stories! Good luck!

  13. Oooooooohhh, I’m sooo sorry Jen. Sounds awful. Now, this might only be a perk for me, but starting with all fresh families sounds really fun. I mean, I’ll miss the Ravelos and Maude and the De Groffs, etc., but it might be nice to only have a few characters to keep up with…eh? Well, that was my lame attempt at cheering you up. Hope it gets better! (Now I’m really afraid my game’s gonna get glitchy….O_O)

  14. Can’t you just turn custom content off? I have OFB and all the expansions, and had a ton of custom furniture and such, but have since turned it off, but I’ve still retained the clothes/makeup/hair/etc I’ve download and my game has no issues.

  15. Oh Jen so sorry to hear all about our problems – I hope things have gotten a wee bit better since you posted :) hugs to you !

  16. Hey Jen! I’m sorry to hear about all of your simmie troubles. I had a similar experience and ended up uninstalling the entire game and starting all over. But then, I took a long break from blogging, and pretty much just kept up with everyone else’s blogs out here in the simming world! Which is why it’s been so long since I’ve updated my site! LOL. But now I’m back, and I’m gonna try my hand at a few of the new challenges that are circulating. Maybe I’ll even try the ol’ Legacy Challenge again for old times sake. But right now I’m just continuing on with my interpretation of Phillipa Gregory’s best selling book: “The Other Boleyn Girl”. It’s my favorite book of all time, and I’m really having a great time watching it come to life! Hope everything works out for you and your simmies, and I can’t wait to see your return to story-telling. =D

  17. Hi, Jen–I hope you’ve managed to make some progress on solving your problems since your last update. I hope you didn’t have to trash everything and start over, but I know that sometimes that may be the only solution. (I haven’t had a problem with the Sims 2 yet *knocking hard on wood* but I have suffered through computer crashes where the only solution was to reformat and start over. Not fun.) Good luck and I hope you’re able to play again soon! :)
