Shanley Studies

After a few semesters of experimentation, it had come down to two men: Professor Thomas Day or Coach Juan Walton. They were both kind, handsome, and, well, old. But Delaney didn’t seem to mind.

Hot tubbing with the profs
“I’m the king of the world!”

Coach Walton had the edge, however, due to his incredibly good genes. Delaney felt it was her duty as the Shanley heir to see if she could make the family less…ugly. (Yeah, I know it’s shallow, but come on! They’re getting scary-looking!)

Delaney gets close to the coach
“I’ll do my best to give you pretty babies.”

Good genes or not, Delaney fell deeply in love with the Coach, and he returned the sentiment. Strongly.

Meanwhile, Sierra was developing her own romance with a sweet but rather odd-looking boy named Sheldon.

Sierra and her boyfriend Sheldon
“So what do you say we rent a few Ingmar Bergman films, then play a rousing game of Pente?”

Sheldon was slightly geeky and into the whole Secrety Society thing, which Sierra thought “infantile”. At her suggestion, her obedient boyfriend cut his hair, dropped out of the society, and donned a letter jacket. Now he looked like all the other cleancut preppy boys! Sierra was so overjoyed she proposed on the spot.

Sierra proposes to Sheldon
“*GASP* Is that the One Ring??”

As senior year rolled around, the Shanley sisters found themselves in serious slacker mode. It was almost effortless for them to get good grades, what with so many great resources in the house (i.e. pledges who wrote term papers for them).

Senior slack
“Wow, I really wish I were sitting at a desk right now…NOT!”

Having conquered college, there was only one thing left to do…graduate!

The graduate
“Ooh, I feel all smart and stuff.”

Wait, make that TWO things left to do…

Delaney becomes an adult
“Woo, I’m an adult! Wearing a horrible bright purple gymsuit!”

Sierra followed suit shortly thereafter, though she ended up in a slinky black dress instead of the gymsuit.

Sierra goes back home
“*sniff* I already miss all the free pizza…”

Next up, Delaney and Sierra return home and invite their respective beaux to live at Niadon!

(And I’ll have a Brayton update soon — it’s taking awhile because I’m mulling over how I want the next story to go. Stay tuned!)

  1. Wow, it’s definitely a change reading about the Shanleys again. It reminds me of the old days! I can’t wait to see how life turns out for the Shanley girls. Or, of course, the Brayton update. Great job, Jen!! :-)

  2. Well even if it’s not as fun writing stories for the Shaneys I still like the witty captions and I would think it’s nice knowing you’ve played a challenge this far. I’m really happy to know the Shaneys aren’t being completely neglected and I still hope you’ll find a way to make Mt. Geneva more fun for you.

  3. Eeee! Shanleys!

Don’t worry, looks are the first thing I judge potential Sim-breeders by as well! I have yet to introduce any of those horrible wide faces + frog mouths into /any/ family of mine. Burrrr.

  4. Another Shalney update? yay!!
It’s a lot different from the Braytons, but it’s a lot of fun to read (I like the subscripts to the pictures…)

Can’t wait to see the next “Shanley-life-phase”!!

  5. A refreshing and less serious update for those of us who are so entertained by the drama of May Green. It’s always nice to have a slighting funny update. I liked how Delaney changed her hair style to suit her men!

I hope you find a little more entertainment with them now that they are past the college phase.

  6. It was good seeing the Shanley girls really funny about the old guy and the mohawk look :D

Well I’ve been playing my sattelite homes so I hope to have a brief update on the non heirs sometime soon…but my home will be teenage haven as my kiddos friends are coming to spend the week here…lord help me but I think I’ll be in the kitchen constantly cooking stuff and not playing my simmies as I want too :O

  7. Haha. You finally made it back to the Shanley’s. Anyway i hope that you keep the story going as you originally planned because i have a feeling i will like that way better than if you tried to twist it into something else…im talking about hte braytons btw. Anway whatever you decide..im sure it will be just as great an update as the others. Oh and i find myself wondering what kind of computer you have because i decided that im going to buy me a computer..probably fifty years from now..but nonetheless i have decided. Thanks and keep up the good work.

  8. Yay! Shanley update!

I hear you about the genetics… I was rather picky throughout the Zamora legacy (but tapered off towards the end once their genes were strong). So, I guess I am shallow, too! Good luck with that.

As for the next update; I’m waiting in glee to see what Cecily does, but take your time… it is well worth the wait!

  9. Hi Jen.
Woohoo! Shanley update. It’s good to see they are moving along… even if it’s slow and steady. They Brayton are so much drama and romance and intrigue that’s it’s good to just see the lighter side of Jen and her Sims.
Well you know we are all dying to see what twist and turns you will take with the Brayton.
So torture us to much kay Jen.
    :)

Oh btw, I loved the mohawk look. That was just so 80’s. lol

  10. Delaney really went through a few incarnations before she found her identity! I loved the mohawk. That’s the sort of thing I did at that age. LOL.

Great to see an update on these guys! I can’t wait to see how their romances pan out :)

  11. oppsie
    two corrections:
I meant “The” Brayton’s are so much drama and romance and intrigue “that” it’s
    and
i meant “don’t” torture us too much
    lol

i was too quick to submit my comment that i missed those little details.

  12. I would have posted this a lot earlier, but I was behind on your Legacy Challenge,so just wondering, where did you get all the downloads like the rug in Sierra and Delaney’s childhood room?I think that the bed covers and such are too cute!Awesome blog,I’ve read since the beginning and you really should become an author! You’re so good at writing!Happy Simming,oh and I love the Braytons’ stories!

  13. YES! THE SHANLEYS RETURN!
As you can see, I’m very excited that the Shanleys are back. Did you change their aspirations, or keep them the same? I like knowing what my Sims’ aspirations are. I’ve gone mad!

  14. Hey guys, thanks for the comments, as always! I might go back to alternating between the Shanleys and the Braytons, as far as updates go — the Shanleys are kind of a nice breather between writing episodes of the Brayton saga. ;-)

To answer a couple of questions:

Eva – You asked what kind of computer I have — it’s an IBM ThinkCentre, Pentium 4 2.60 GHz CPU, with 512 MB RAM, 80 GB Hard Drive, and an ATI Radeon 9600 128MB video card. I’m thinking of installing more memory since my Sims 2 game runs very slowly in the Brayton house, but I’m not sure if that will help or not. Best of luck to you in purchasing a new computer!

Ashley – Hello, and thank you! :-) Those bedsheets and the carpet are part of the Coastal Bedroom set by Jasminevs at Spiffy Sims.

  15. It’s nice to hear about the Shanleys angain. It brings back good memories. I remember Nia and Sheldon. I loved them. They are such a good family. I also like Braytons. I love the clothes and funriture. It’s so pretty. I want it!!! Grrr… Your such agood writer. Yous hould write books. I would read evryone. SIMS 2 ROCKS, PEACE OUT!!!!

  16. I am sure that RAM will help your computer go faster lol. Thanks for the help too.

  17. RAM helped me out! I say give it a shot, it is rather cheap and well worth it. Ahhh high textures, how I love thee!

  18. Hee. I loved that “is that the one ring?!” line.
I… really find the genes in my Legacy family important, too. In fact, most recently, I’ve actually used SimPE to change one of their faces a little. And it’s paid off a lot. (My third-generation children were related to Connor somethingorother, who was pretty goodlooking. Those two kids were beautiful. Well, handsome in the son’s case, but still. I had to clone them– I wanted to make sure I didn’t lose them, you know?)
Don’t feel bad about picking the marriage Sims for their looks, it’s not that shallow. I mean… you’re going to have to look at them for a long time, until they die. Why do you have to have ones that you don’t like, eh? :D
Woah, though. Delaney looks so.. I don’t know. Wild. That short hair she has suits her, though.
And, hey! Purple jumpsuits are respectable!
…*crawls off into a corner and weeps over her purple jumpsuits that really don’t exist*

  19. Hey, Jen I might check that Sims 2 maid thingy mingy, out!!!!

    THanks a Heap!!!!

    From your number 1 fan
    JESS!!!!!!

  20. Isabelle – Hi and thanks! You made me all nostalgic for Nia and Sheldon…aww. Just had a weird idea — I think I packaged the Shanleys right after the 2nd gen was born — wouldn’t it be weird to go back and do an “alternate” timeline kind of thing? Have Bree marry Benjamin Long or something instead of Leo the Gardener? Hee!

Eva and Mao – OK, you guys have convinced me, I’m going to buy more RAM with my next paycheck!

Blu – You’ve changed my mind on the whole purple jumpsuit issue. I’m going to make Delaney wear it forever!!! Mwahahah… ;-)

Jessic@ – Good luck with the Sims 2 Maid thingy mingy! I hope it works out for you.

Thanks to everyone for still checking my blog even though I’m not updating as often as I used to. I’ve been working on the next Brayton update for the last four days and am hoping tonight I’ll finally finish. *crosses fingers and toes* It’ll be a nice long one for those of you who like superlong updates.

  21. Do an alternative timeline! Do it! :D

I’ve gotten temporarily distracted by World of Warcraft myself, but I’m still all about the Sims 2.
