Village Point Lighthouse and Vivarium

I have another lot from Whimsett Cove for you…the Village Point Lighthouse and Vivarium! I built the shell ages ago before Supernatural came out, but I got sidetracked by that EP and couldn’t decide what I wanted to do with the interior. Once Seasons came out and I saw that awesome sculpture with the shark jaws, I was inspired to make it into an aquarium of sorts…but since it has insects and reptiles, too, I’m calling it a “Vivarium”. :) (Thank you to Tedhi from The Sims Daily for the suggestion!!)

Lighthouse

Here’s the approach to the lighthouse…it’s at the end of a little pathway. Johnnywr had lovely rundown fishing shack on this lot, which doubled as a junkyard, and I liked it so much it was one of the few lots I didn’t delete, but when I was looking for a spot to put a lighthouse, this just seemed like the perfect place. So the fishing village went bye-bye…but it might pop up again somewhere!

As you can see, I went a little overboard taking pics of the exterior…:-D But here are a couple shots of it on a foggy moonlit night:

Now for the interior! As Whimsett Cove is a small town, this is a very modest little aquarium…and they wanted to preserve the lighthouse (which has been decommissioned as an official lighthouse but is still a historical landmark), so they didn’t knock down walls to build big tanks or anything.

The first floor is mostly fish tanks, with a little spot called “The Mermaid Room” to get a little of that “underwater” feeling.

There’s also a little reading nook with books on fishing, maritime history, sea creatures, etc.

Upstairs there are sections for insects (I still have to put some butterflies in those tall shelves) and reptiles (there is a snake, an iguana, and a turtle on display).

There’s also a little kids’ reading/play area:

(That’s Fran’s cousin Lucas watching the ants…he and his dad live in Whimsett Cove and were helping me playtest…I’ll post their house next!)

  1. Hey, it’s ‘Jaws’! Now, where’s Quint, Brody, and Hooper? Oh, boy, I’m getting old… The lighthouse looks fantastic, Jen, as always, and the foggy, moonlit pics fit perfectly!

    • LOL, wow, I haven’t seen Jaws in ages! It holds the distinction of being one of the few movies I’ve seen at a drive-in theater (when I was five years old! Not a good movie for a kid! Heh). Thanks for the lovely comment, Scally! Hope you’re having a good year so far. :)

      • Sorry, Jen, I’ve got you beat: I saw Jaws for the first time when I was 3 (I whined to be allowed to watch it, my Ma caved in)! I’ll have to dig out the DVD some time and watch it again. Jaws is to blame for my love of Great White Sharks :-)

  2. Oh my my, it is simply delightful :) You always have have such awesome ideas, one simply can’t be anything other than jealous.

  3. OMG, YEEEEES! That’s one of my very favorite lots of yours, I think… (If I think a bit too much, I’ll have soon a hundred of other lots to add to my “absolute favorite”! *giggle* ) I always squee when we see your lighthouse on any Whimsett Cove pictures. *sigh*
The building is amazing, and the place is so atmospheric! Awww… Turning it into a vivarium was the best idea. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this!

    • Awww, thank you, Sandy-sweet! I’m quite fond of the lighthouse myself! :D (as evidenced by my rampant picspam of it *rolleyes* LOL) You actually inspired it since I wanted to have some pretty landmarks in my town, like you have with the Eiffel Tower in Sandy Valley! :)

  4. Absolutely beautiful pictures! The water in the very first picture has such a “yummy” colour, hehe! I think it’s the reflection of the trees, but I just want to jump into the water from that boat bridge :D

And of course, absolutely stunning light house! I love the red exterior, and of course, the charming interior. The inhabitants in Whimsett Cove are so lucky to have such an awesome place to visit.

    • Heehee, thank you very much, Sara-love! Wouldn’t it be cool if Sims could dive into the water from a pier like that??
