Timely Finds (A Work in Progress)

Wow, thanks for all of the great name suggestions! You guys are awesome. I finally got to play a bit tonight (for the first time in four days!), so expect an update sometime tomorrow (Tuesday). I’m also horribly behind on everyone else’s blogs again, but hope to get caught up with those tomorrow as well.

In the meantime, Bitsy posted a great idea in the comments for my last Brayton update — she suggested I start a list of stuff I’ve found for my historical family, and then if any of you come across new items, you can leave a comment with a link to the site where they can be found, and I’ll add them to the list. That way anyone who is interested in doing a historical or retro family can refer to it to track down objects and clothing.

(Update: I am in the process of adding tons of new links. Also, I put the list on its own page because this post kept timing out when I tried to save. Click on the link below to go to the finds.)

  1. It’s a great idea Jen, thank you for all the links! I’m going to check some of them out soon. Can’t wait for your update!

  2. Hi Jen. I love the idea. I wish i had the game so i could try the same thing. I’m looking forward to your next update.
    Keep on simming

  3. Wow! I like the little high chair…so SWEET! I wish I had one for my real-life little brother…
    E-Liz :)

  4. I’m so glad you wrote a post about this! I hadn’t found a lot of the stuff that you had and it was great to download and play with these new meshes and objects. The Baby Changing Dresser, by the way, is here. You have the same link for both the dresser and the Highchair.

Unfortunately my knowledge of “when” things are is only made specific via the wonders of American Girl. So, feel free to sort these into whatever eras you think best.

    Wooden Swingset
    Wood Colonial Toy Box
    Infant Bassinette-Cradle
    Old Fashioned TV

Sussifriberg’s My Sims Page – Lots of Victorian Clothes

Weddings without Maxis default formal wear – Get married with whatever is “set” as the formal wear at the time, not the default Maxis wedding gown. It is a hack, but I think using this on a Legacy lot should be ok because it’s visual only, it dosen’t modify Sim behavior.

I’m going to take a break here. MTS2 is down and a few other links aren’t working so I’m gonna post before my comp completely fritzes out on me. I’ll post more later. ;)

  5. Toddler Sleigh Bed – and other assorted sleigh furniture (armoire, changing table, crib, high chair, toy box, single bed, double bed) please read the readme file or at least the post, known issues are enumerated therin.

Old Fashioned Shortwave Transceiver – 1940’s. High vertex count, more verticies mean slower game. Erm, it’s a radio.

    Old Fashioned AM Radio -1930’s.

    Old Fashioned Radio

Leg Warmers – Go to Bottoms underneath Everyday in Women, fourth row down, far right. Dosen’t that just scream, 80’s? Though I suspect 70’s, 80’s and 90’s (esecially) stuff will be easy to find, legwarmers just need to be highlighted when found. ;)

Vintage Shanghai Paintings 1920’s/1930’s. Set 2. Set 3. In fact, go here and click Find all Threads started by justmoi, she has a ton of paintings and recolors that are very beautiful.

60’s Style Radio – Yes, I love radios. I usually have it on all the time in the game when I’m playing with my own custom playlists set up on each station.

    Wall Radiator – Purely decorative.

boblishman – Go to find all threads and just go through his stuff. Toasters, Electric Kettles, Washing Up Rack and Dishes, Kitchen Storage Jars, Knife Rack, Laundry Hamper and more, all decorative and wonderful in game, they make your house look more realistic. Covers a lot of the modern eras.

    Airplane Posters – 1950’s planes.

Build Your Own Entertainment Center – Might some in handy in more modern eras and works great. Read the post, some of the files are either UNI only or not UNI. You will still be able to download everything on offer just make sure you grab the right file.

    Hippy Teen Waist Length Hair

    Star Glasses

Bell Bottoms – For little girls only.

    1960’s Psychedelic Posters

Keyboard (piano) – Reminds me of the one my Dad had in the 70’s.

    Grand Piano

    Low Rise Flair Jeans/Pants

    Hair Mesh with Bangs

I Love The Eighties Cartoon Collection – A ton of kids clothes.

    80’s Rocker Hair For Males

    Fractals Paintings

Hope I’m not being a bother, will post more later, I know I have more links somewhere…

  6. Bethylene’s My Sim Page – Some Victorian, and some Flapper attire here.

Anne DeVreux, the movie star – 1920’s.

    Roaring 20’s – Flapper Outfit.

    Jane – 1960’s.

    Funky Felicity – 1960’s.

    bels101073’s My Sims Page – 1960’s outfits.

    60’s Style Dress

Mattie’s Walls and Floors for the Sims – Wonderful recolored bedding and upholstery, very old fashioned.

    New Girl’s Dress – 1930’s/1940’s.

Toddler Hair styles – The Toddler Mirror is another harmless hack, in my opinion. After raising 20 odd toddlers I think using an object to differentiate one toddler from another to ease the monotony a bit will not aid anything but my sanity. And, after completing a legacy yourself I’m sure you’re aware that by sixth generation even a mirror might not help that any.

That’s it for now then. Hope your legacies are going well!

  7. Wow, Bitsy, that’s AWESOME!! I am eager to check out the 1920s stuff because I haven’t found much yet, and it’s coming up… So are you going to do a historical family of some kind? Or do you just like finding cool Sims stuff? :-)

I’m at work so I can’t go through these links too thoroughly yet, but when I get home tonight I’ll be sure to check them out and add them to the Timely Finds page. Thanks so so much, and keep sharing these great finds with us!

  8. A few more meshes that I found. Largely all from one site that, unfortunately, is on a very slow server. The pages will take a bit to load and the files even longer to download but it is well worth the wait.

Tea Kettle – Top of the page. It does not replace the Coffee Machine, it clones it, so you get a nice tea kettle that supplies… coffee.

Old Fashioned Alarm Clock – Bottom of page. Looks like a regular clock, acts like an alarm clock.

Fancy Wooden Arm Chair – Top of page. It looks like it can be used as a Dining Chair but it is in the Living Chair category. It still is a very nice chair and a great mesh that looks good in game.

Wooden Trunk – Third from bottom. It’s an armoire, though I don’t remember if there is animation or not. Might come in handy in the thirties and forties.

Definitely look around the site, a lot of the stuff is modern but there are definitely some jewels worth looking for that I haven’t posted because a lot of it depends on your taste.

I’d love to do a sixties family, but I think I will have to wait until I can get University to try for that. A lot of the screenshots show lots of great sixties stuff. Other then that, I just love finding cool Sims stuff. ;)

  9. Great finds, Bitsy! I’ve been to that site before, but got too impatient with its slow loading, so I didn’t look around much. You’re right, though, that stuff is worth it (though I haven’t tried it in-game yet). I’ll add all of these to my Timely Finds page and some more that I found, too! Thanks!!

  10. Jen-Would it be okay if you uploaded this family to the exchange. I tried the Legacy challenge as a private thing and I know nobody would post stories about the family except of you ;) I just love this family and I want to fool around with them 8′} It’s okay if you don’t want to I understand.

  11. Hey Jen, just posting to say hi and that I’m alive. Don’t worry, I always read but I don’t always have time to post.
What website/host would you guys recommend to start a free and easy to use blog?

  12. Lindsey – Sure, I could upload the Braytons to the exchange. I’ll do that in the next day or so and let you know!

Vivi – Hi there! For awhile, a lot of people were using Wpblogs or Blogsome, but it seems like they’ve had some trouble with both services, so I’m not sure I would recommend them. More people have been having success with Blogger lately, I think — Arian, Mao, Devin, and PRMami all use it, so you could check out their blogs and see if you like it. You could also join SimScribes and ask around on the Technical forum to get recommendations. I hope that helps. Best of luck and I look forward to seeing your blog!

  13. Lindsey – I’ll upload the Braytons to the exchange after I post my next story about them. I forgot they were already a few days ahead of where I left off in the last story. Once they’re up-to-date, I’ll upload and let you know!

  14. Found some more stuff I thought I’d post before I lost track of it all again. ;)

Bathroom Accessories – General Modern. I like realism, so sue me.

    Electric Oil Lamp

50’s Pin-Up Mesh and Outfits – Very risque.

Hot Stuff Miniskirts Mesh and Skirts

Decorative Flower Carts – Ideal for the garden.

    Psychedelic Wall Tapestry

Nursery Set: Mesh Set 1 & Mesh Set 2 Recolors: Here & Here & Here – Includes a sink to bathe a newborn in.

Kitchen Furniture Set – Someone should really have made that cupboard into a refrigerator, and some of the counters into dishwashers or trashcompactors, that would have made this set perfect.

Oriental Rugs – Requires Echo’s Mesh.

Grungy Doors and Windows – If you want your family to suffer through the Depression.

Victorian Music Room – Includes piano and record player (I think there is a fancier name for it then record player, actually) as well as some wonderful looking furniture. Cost: Three Euros.

Little Protestor – Sixties Toddler Outfit.

Oh, and I’m really sorry, but I gave you a bad link on the toddler hair thing….
The mirror is here and the hair styles can be found here, just click “find all threads”.

  15. Thank you everyone for all the great stuff you found. I thought about it immediately when I wanted to start the Royal Kingdom Challenge and set it in the Victorian era. If I find anything useful, I will sure add it here.
