Tempus Fugit

It wasn’t long before the twins grew up again… (I really thought I took more pictures in between, but I guess I was rushing a bit to age Mia to a teen. Not double-speed rushing or anything, but not stopping as often to take pictures.)

The twins as children

Parker and Jacinda both went to school right away, but Parker lagged behind on his homework and constantly complained about not having any fun. Lennan thought maybe getting him and the rest of the kids into private school might improve the situation, so he invited the headmaster over for dinner and a tour one night.

Lennan talks to the headmaster

Lennan and the headmaster got along famously, and the headmaster was so impressed with the house and his salmon dinner that he accepted all four kids into private school! Demi was overjoyed. Now her granddaughter Mia could get the best education possible and maybe get into a decent university.

Demi herself had become an elder and retired from her job as a Captain Hero in order to pursue her lifelong dream of being a Mad Scientist.

Demi as an elder

In the meantime, Demi’s daughter Aurora had become a teen and developed a penchant for playing the drums.

After awhile, Demi encouraged Aurora (Knowledge Sim, yay!) to apply for scholarships and go off to college.

“And when Mia gets there,” she added, “keep an eye on her. She’s going to have to start her own family soon, just as Nia Shanley did all those generations ago. Make sure she doesn’t tarnish the family name!”

Aurora promised her mom she’d do her best and said goodbye to the family. The taxi arrived to take her to Sim State University, and just like that, she was gone.

Aurora goes to college

In the blink of an eye, Mia had become a teenager as well. All through childhood, she had been working no her skills, so when she applied for scholarships, she received four of them. Not a bad way to start her new life!

Mia applies for scholarships

Mia couldn’t wait to go to college. She was excited at the prospect of meeting so many new people and attending some of those wild parties she had seen in all of those college movies. Starting up a family was the farthest thing from her mind, but she knew that someday she would have to start a legacy of her own. It was her birthright. Until then, though, she was going to live it up as much as possible. (Yep, rolled Popularity for her, which fits with her “Woohoo with 20 Sims” Lifetime Want, a game glitch since she’s had that Lifetime Want since birth and Sims don’t normally get Lifetime Wants until they choose an aspiration at teen. Oh well!)

Mia leaves for college

When the time came for Mia to leave for college, the family gathered around to wish her farewell. Mia took one last look at Shanley Hall, took a deep breath, and climbed into the taxi, ready to take on the world.

(Gameplay Notes: I decided since Mia was closer to teen that she would be the one to start her own legacy for the new University Legacy Challenge. I’ve actually played her in college a little already, and it’s going to be interesting — the Popularity aspiration combined with her “Woohoo with 20 Sims ” lifetime want is going to make her college years wild indeed. I think Jacinda is going to carry on the original legacy in Shanley Hall — she has a Niceness of NINE (!), and I’m really sick of all these grouchy Sims. In fact, she probably has the best personality yet of any of the Shanley heirs — 7-9-5-4-9, for a total of 34 points. Parker is 9-2-10-2-3, which would be just fine except for that Niceness score. Plus I’ve decided that I like Outgoing Sims. They’re just more animated and more fun to watch, I think. So from now on Mia’s story will be separate from this one. I’m going to continue to play the current Shanleys pretty much Legacy-style (with the new University rules) but it won’t be official since Jacinda is not starting on a brand new lot. We’ll just keep going through the generations until this line dies out or I get sick of playing them. ;-) Anyway, sorry if this update seems disjointed and blah — I’m exhausted tonight but was determined to post an update. Work is sucking the life out of me lately, and I’ve been playing University a bit too much. Excuses, excuses. I’m off to bed. Happy Simming and all that good stuff!)

  1. Awesome! Another update. Yay! Can’t wait for the next one already! Good work Jen. And it’s not blah at all.

  2. Looks like everything is going well with your families jen. I can’t wait to see what the girls get up to at University. That should be interesting.

  3. The two blonde girls, Mia and Aurora, will be interesting to follow through college. I missed whatever happened to the alien Shanley girl, though. n_n And the sattelite houses-are they all deleted forever?

    Howell. Good update. ^^

  4. Wow, awesome update again, Jen! I think it’s a wonderful idea sending Mia off to college. She is a beautiful popularity Sim and one that sure will be known on campus. Parker and Jacinda acctually looks like twins! (Except for the hair and eyes) Their facial features look identical! That’s awesome! ^_^

I understand how you feel, Uniiversity is wonderful! It’s so much fun!

    By the way, I loved your update. Are you going to play Mia in college? If so, I can’t wait for that! Acctually, I can’t wait for any of your updates! ;_;

  5. Way cool, Jen! I can’t wait to see Mia’s life in college. She’s a great person to be starting off your University Challenge with! I agree with what Leslie said about Parker and Jacinda looking like twins. That’s pretty neat! Enjoy playing and I hope work turns out okay for you!

  6. Hmmm…you might want to remember to lock the door when good ole Mia is woohooing and fulfilling her impossible want. Can teens woohoo in the EP? If so, can they get pregnant? I just wanted to know! XD Good luck and happy simming!

  7. I’ve spent most of the past few hours reading the long history of the Shanleys. It’s so much fun to watch the line continue through the generations :)

I bought Sims University last weekend and it’s kind of rekindled my obsession with the game. I don’t know that I have the RAM to attempt a Legacy Challenge, but I love reading everyone else’s!

  8. Thanks for the comments, everyone! I played Sims until my eyes fell out last night, so I’ll have a new update (either a realllly long one or two semi-long ones) for you very soon. To answer some questions…

Mieko – The alien Shanley girl ended up moving out with Scottie (Lennan’s twin) and Cort (Lennan’s uncle). I know that’s probably really confusing. I’ve been burning myself out on University, so this weekend I might take a break and go back to some of my old satellite houses. (They haven’t been deleted or anything.) I’d love to send Eleanor Shanley (5G) to college, but then, that’s University again. Maybe I could send her to the Academie La Tour instead of Sim State, just for a change of pace…

Leslie – You asked if I’m going to play Mia in college — the answer is yes, and she’s actually a junior already. I hope to post about it sometime today (probably when I get home from work)!

QF – Teens still can’t woohoo or get pregnant as far as I know. Young adults can woohoo but are unable to get pregnant. I think there’s a hack somewhere on Mod the Sims 2 that will allow teens to woohoo and have babies, though.

Daria – Hi and welcome! Glad you enjoyed reading the long, rambly history of the Shanleys. Have you tried starting a Legacy Family? If you don’t do the crazy “Have 10 Kids” want and just have one baby every generation (although twins do happen occasionally), it might not get too crazy/slow!

  9. Aw, Mia is so pretty! And the twins are adorable! Aurora’s drum playing is also very cool! Am looking forward to seeing Aurora and Mia at university and see how they get on. Mia’s going to have a fun time. Can you really get the uni sims to woohoo with faculty? If so you have to get Mia to do that! Hehe. Nice post :D
