My Daycare Needs a Name

Hey all! I’ve been away awhile, mostly playing the Dragon Age games (and falling in love with Alistair, my new pretend boyfriend), but that addiction has run its course, and I’m back in Simland. It’s funny how, no matter what crazy train tracks I may end up racing down, it seems I always return to the Sims. Unfortunately the game still crashes and freezes on me from time to time, even when I remove all of my CC, so it takes me forever to get anything done. But enough whining — Generations is here!

One of the first things I want to try in Generations is the new daycare profession. It sounds like it’d be challenging and also allow me to explore the all the cool new stuff for kids. Last night I built and decorated most of the house, but I was falling asleep at my keyboard before I could finish, so gameplay will have to wait until tonight! Here are some preview pics of the interior of the house:

I used the Butterfly Room at Sunnyside Daycare in Toy Story 3 as my inspiration for the playroom, as far as colors go.

(I recolored the comfy chair above to resemble this chair in the movie.)

The double doors above lead to the foyer of the house, where parents drop off their kids. At least, that’s what I’m hoping it’ll be used for. I have no idea how it actually works yet! (The rainbow and the palm tree are more homages to Sunnyside.)

Above is the nap room, where tired kids can get away for a quiet snooze.

The backyard is full of fun activities: hopscotch, a sandbox, a swingset, and a treehouse. I was tempted to put the toddler springy toys, see-saw, and slip’n’slide out there, too, but I didn’t want to overdo it. Gotta give them a reason to go to the park!

And here’s the family’s living room, away from the ruckus of the playroom. Practically all of the furniture in this pic is from Generations, minus the end table and the plant.

I’m hoping I’ll get a chance to play tonight and be able to share some more pics! How about you guys — what do you think of Generations so far?

  1. OMG my word today is lothario! *giggles madly*

I love what you did w/ the day care. It realy resembles the Toy Story 3 daycare. You’re so talented! I look forward to hearing how well it played for you.

    • Heehee, glad you’re enjoying the security words! And thank you for your comment! I’m excited to see if my playroom is actually playable, if you know what I mean.

  2. Wow Jen that is looking really good. I can’t believe all of the great furniture that is coming with this EP! Does the daycare profession work like an ambitions profession where you are sort of self employed or is there a base for it like the salon? I don’t get my copy until at least Friday here.

    • Some of the furniture in my pics is actually from the store, so I hope I’m not misrepresenting what comes with Generations! Basically there is a lot of good kids’ furniture, a smattering of regular furniture, and then the activities, like hopscotch, sandbox, treehouse, etc. As for the daycare profession, as far as I know it’s a self-employed profession, where you work out of your own home. Parents drop off their kids, and the challenges grow as you level up. I’ll have to post some more about it after I play!

  3. Hi Jen! :D The daycare looks incredible! So far Generations is great. It eliminated my need for at least two mods I had previously, (like the aging and edit-in-cas mods) and the strollers (!!) are fully-functional, as long as you don’t go down a hill. ;)

Daycare is a profession, which you can sign up for via any of the usual culprits (i.e. computer, cell, paper). The parents drop their kids off at your house. :)

    • Oops, I see you already answered LemonJelly’s question! Thanks :) Sounds like you’re enjoying Generations so far! I did hear about the strollers being kind of weird, though — that they keep taking the kid out of the stroller to go down hills and cross the street. D’oh!

  4. Hehehe! My secruity word was “gnome”! :O))

Anyway, I can’t recall if we’ve already had this conversation or not, jenba, but … how often do you save your game when you’re playing? I find that if I don’t save AT LEAST every 15 minutes, my game will crash. That’s why I have Twallan’s Saver mod. It reminds me to save. :O)

All of that aside, I love all of the bright colors. Can’t wait to see what you do with Generations.

    • Hey Ange! Actually, I do play with Twallan’s Saver Mod (I LOVE IT) but I had removed all of my mods to play last night, so I had to rely on the ol’ noggin, which doesn’t always work properly when it comes to remembering things. ;) It looks like most of his stuff has been updated for Generations now, so off I go to download the new version of the Saver!

  5. I haven’t picked up Generations yet (I am still grumpy about the price they charge for them, so I am waiting for someone to have it on sale for $30) but I am really excited for it. I love when they give sims more things to do at home/more ways for the age groups to interact with one another, and especially give more things for kids and toddlers to do. Your daycare looks adorable, and I love that you based it on the one from Toy Story 3 (love that movie, but it makes me bawl like a baby every time I watch it). I can’t wait to hear what you think of Generations (and I hope it isn’t as buggy as Late Night apparently was for people)!

    • Audrey! :) Toy Story 3 makes me bawl like a baby, too. I’ve probably watched it four times now, and every time it has the same effect on me. I love it, though — definitely a classic. I hope the Generations price goes down soon so you can pick it up! I hear ya on it being overpriced…EA are greedybutts.

  6. That looks fabulous Jen! Sooo you goonna upload that O.O. Just wondering :D.

Oh and I used to crash all the time too, but if I play in windows mode, I rarely crash.

    • Yeah, I was playing in windowed mode for awhile, but then I started crashing there, too, so I think I just need a new computer! ;) And I’d be happy to upload the house, but it’s full of store stuff, plus things from all EPs and SPs, I think. Maybe not the SPs. I’ll see if I can clean it up. :)

  7. The magic word today is Langerak. Am curious how you got your security words to be Sims words, btw.

I LOOOOVE this! It’s so beautiful and it really does look like Sunnyside. All that’s missing is Lotso. ;-)

But… (and blast there not being a guide for this one!) there’s a day care profession now? How do you get it?

    • I’m using a WordPress plug-in called Peter’s Custom Anti-Spam, which allows me to edit the list of security words. So I made a bunch that are all Sims-related. Thanks for the kind comments about the daycare! As for Lotso, there’s a raspberry-colored teddy bear in there somewhere! :) Regarding the daycare profession, you sign up for it through the computer, just like the private investigator, ghost hunter, etc. Then you work out of your house, and parents bring their kids to you. I explain it a bit more in my next post.

  8. Loving the Day Care Centre – and the way you’ve designed it to reflect the toy story image is pretty damn inspired, Jen! I had no idea that this new EP comes with that particular profession, I can’t get my copy here in the UK until tomorrow. It’s such a PITA that it’s released on different dates throughout the world. I’m positively green with envy :P

Not surprised you got lost in Dragon Age, my hubby couldn’t leave the thing alone unless I actually physically turned the TV off and *harrumphed* very loudly in front of it with my arms folded… not even giving him a quick *booby flash* as I wandered past him, was enough to distract him… very damaging on the ego that. It’s always worked in the past.

BTW – even though I don’t blame you for the new and fleeting addiction… I have checked in here almost daily because I’ve missed you. Tell no one. You’ll ruin my *bitch cred*.

    • Heya Lily! I think it’s nearly tomorrow where you are now, so I hope you have Generations in your hands soon. It really is crappy that they have different release dates throughout the world. :-p LOL at your hubby not even being distracted by a booby flash! Such is the power of Dragon Age. I hope your ego will recover! And your bitch cred is safe with me. I shall tell no one. (But that was very sweet of you to say!)

  9. Wow this is looking so awesome, I bet you can’t wait to play. I haven’t installed Generations yet, am waiting for mods to be updated as usually they only take short time. You do make me wanna jump in and give in though…looking so lush :)

    • Ooh, I look forward to seeing what you do with Generations, Speechless! I am too impatient to wait for mods, so I played modless for awhile…reminded me just how annoying the vanilla game can be. Heh. Hope you have fun with yours!

  10. The daycare you created looks fantastic! *cheers* I can’t wait to get my copy. *fidgets* My own darn fault until waiting until late Saturday to “pre-order” it, so that I lost Sunday and Monday with shipping. *harumphs* Hopefully I’ll have it tomorrow, because all the new stuff just might be enough to yank me out of my many-months-long addiction to Dragon Age. *grins*

    • Thank you, Aer! I hope you get your game soon, if you don’t have it in your possession already (I forget if you mentioned it on LL or not…stupid memory)…

  11. An update \o/ Man how I have missed your game.

I love the new daycare – the only name that comes to my mind is the “Owl Tree” because of the tree on the wall, even thou that bird was no owl.

I’m really anxious to play generations, but I’m just waiting for awesome to be updated. So I can continue with my hood. In what world is this family located in? or did you start a new hood?

    • Hi ani_! Ooh, I like your suggestion of “Owl Tree” — I’m a fan of owls :) But I’ve already gone with another suggestion, so I’ll have to save that one. This family is located in regular ol’ Sunset Valley. Since it’s kind of a test-family just to try out Generations, minus mods and stuff, I figured I’d just play one of the base worlds. I can’t wait to see what you do with Generations in your game! I got hopelessly behind on Sims blogs while I was away, so I hope to get caught up on yours very soon.

  12. Yay! When I saw on Living sims u needed a name Sunnyside was the name to pop into my head as I watch it with my daughter every day and I’m not kidding!! I’m so in love with this daycare it’s absolutely perfect. I love the fish tank as well great plus! As for name hmmmmmmm ‘Sunny Valley DayCare’ or ‘Rainbow Valley day care’ lol sry I don’t think I have any good ideas for you.

I won’t get my game for a few days, but it looks great. When you play please let us know you favorites!

  13. Late to the post but still impressed! I must be the only one not to have seen Toy Story 3 (not for lack of desire); this definitely makes me want to run and pick up a copy. This is one impressive Nursery Jen. The colors are so fun (good inspiration btw), the little sim kiddies will have oodles of fun here. Totally lovin’ the day care profession myself. I haven’t made anything near as good as this. I really should put in more effort ;).
