An Unexpected Wedding

Well, it was crazy over there, as usual. Taryn had recovered somewhat from her exhaustion of the night before, but her Social was so low that Mr. Bunny showed up to say hello. Liam, of course, thought she was nuts.

The teens were hungry, and I didn’t bother having Liam make them dinner, so they had to fend for themselves. Well, their cooking scores are fairly low, so one of them started a fire on the stove. They all freaked out, and Rian and Aidan lost aspiration points. The fireman showed up and put the fire out, but just after he left, the food IN the stove caught on fire, causing a SECOND fire to break out. It was a madhouse!

Fire in the kitchen

Rian sank so deeply into aspiration failure that he started insulting his brother Aidan. I had never seen any of these kids be mean and nasty, so it was a bit of a shock.

After that, he couldn’t get to the bathroom quickly enough and had an accident on the kitchen floor — even though I had used their inheritance money to build another bathroom. That poor kid.

Rian wets the floor

One thing I hate about autonomous households is that they tend to drink espresso or nap on the couch when their energy is low, instead of just going to bed. Here Aidan drinks a cup while the nanny mops up Rian’s puddle. After I saw Zuzu drinking some espresso, I just deleted the darned thing and directed them all to bed. I’m such a control freak! I can’t let go!

A late night cup of espresso

Before I deleted the espresso machine, I noticed the nanny doing something weird — she was pulling espresso cups out of a plate of hot dogs and putting them into the dishwasher below. She just kept doing it over and over. I have no idea why there were espresso cups in the hot dogs, but there you go. I ended up moving the plate to the floor and having someone clean it up. After that, the nanny went about her business.

Pulling cups from hot dogs?

Well, after all that, I still had to get someone engaged. I decided on Taryn since Liam couldn’t get engaged to his girlfriend — she was already married to someone else. I sent Taryn to a community lot and had her chat up the first available man she met — it turned out to be Hugh Beagle, best friend and roommate of Stewart. Taryn and Hugh hit it off quite well, so I sent her home and had her invite him over.

Taryn tickles Hugh

Taryn made salmon while Hugh hot-tubbed, and after dinner and some making out, she proposed engagement. Actually, this might have been the next day. I get confused with all of this stuff going on! At any rate, he accepted.

So I switched back over to the main house, and hooray, Kaylynn was in full and beautifully shining platinum. Perfect!

Well, I think the Grim Reaper hates me, because 6:00 rolled around, Kaylynn turned 80, and he didn’t show up. Gah! Sure, he shows up right on the dot for Devin just as he’s slipping into gold, but fails to show up when Kaylynn is in full platinum! He has it in for me, I swear. Disappointed, I just let Kaylynn do her thing, watching carefully lest her meter slip into gold again.

Well, ol’ Grim didn’t show up at all that night. Kaylynn went to sleep and woke up to live another day. She went about her usual business — playing with the grandson, talking to Fiona, eating lunch — and slipped into gold early in the afternoon. She had a want to tickle Callum, so I invited him over as soon as the clock hit 3:00 (he was in school before that). Then she wanted to win a game against him. Oy. I haven’t had the best luck with the game-winning — my elders always seem to lose the game, therefore LOSING aspiration points. I didn’t want that! (continued on page 3)

  1. That’s one big family. Would be great to see a tour. Just an idea; Why don’t you let people choose the last three baby names?

  2. Great idea, Nostalgia. Mary has already suggested the name Vesta for a girl, so the next girl will be named that. I’m open to suggestions for the other two kids!

  3. What a great update! I just love your legacy family stories. What an adventure at Liams house wow…there was so much chaos. I love it when that happens…to other people. hehe

  4. I’m going to have to read this one again (slowly) so I can take it all in.

Okay, silly question – when you switched to Liam’s house and then back to Kaylynn’s house, you said that Kaylynn was finally in platinum mood. I’m sorta confused because I know they don’t age while you’re not visiting. I know you were trying to get her to plat before she died. I guess my confusion was based on the way you were describing it. It almost seemed like Kaylynn was ascending to plat mood while you were in Liam’s house. Maybe I need to reread your story again. LOL Anway, pardon my rambles. :)

  5. Wow! I just love your updates Jen! They are wordy, but that’s the great thing about them. It’s really nice to know the details about things. I think a tour of Shanley Manor would be great! I’ve been meaning to request that. I think the house looks beautiful from what I’ve seen. As for names, I’m not very good at that. I also use the random name generator. It works out best for me. I can’t wait for your next update! Have fun with whatever it is you plan on doing!

  6. May I suggest Tebbany for if there’s another girl? Great work, sorry if anyone can’t access my Sims 2 Blog, Rioneh River. It’s down for possibly forever. Sincerely, Dustyn. :)

  7. Kathy – They don’t age while you’re playing another house, but if something occurs that would give them aspiration points, they do accrue those points. In this case, Kaylynn wanted a relative to get married. It doesn’t matter if the relative is in her household or somewhere else — as soon as that relative gets married, she’ll get those points. Or rather, when I play her again, I will see that she has gotten the points. Hope that makes sense!

As for names, I love naming people and have no trouble coming up with names (I own about a dozen baby name books, hehe), but I do like the idea of having other people come up with names for Fiona’s last three kids, just because it’s fun. :-D

Nostalgia, you suggested Dubrey — it sounds cool, but how do you pronounce it? Dubree or Dubrae?

  8. hehe finally, I’ve caught up to date with your stories. Length and wordy updates are good, I like them cause you feel more into the story knowign the details etc :) It’s great that you managed to maintain such a huge family (and growing!) wish I had the determination :p I’m decided from now on, I’ll have between 1-3 legacy kids and most likely only one will marry and continue the legacy while the other sibligs remain unmarried since I don’t have the determination to play multiple houses like I planned from the beginning :p

it’d be cool if we could name the babies! hehe, though I can’t think of any good ones at the moment. btw… have you joined the new LC yahoo! group sicne the old one closed down?

  9. Hi Janice, I’ve joined the new Legacy Yahoo Group, but I’m super behind on reading the messages. I need to get caught up one of these days…and you are wise to stick to 1-3 kids per generation in your Legacy Challenge family — I’m definitely going back to my 2 kids per gen after this whole ‘Have 10 Kids’ madness is over with! I just wanted to see if I could do it. I guess we’ll see.

  10. Jen – your explanation was perfect. It makes a lot of sense because Summer got a want fulfilled because I gave her a bookcase in her house and she wanted a bookcase. It was when I unpaused the game when I saw that she earned those aspiration points. I just didn’t realize it could go beyond the lot! I know I can look forward to that when I build a non-heir lot to accompany my Legacy lot.

  11. Hehe, no problem, Kathy! I fixed it. And yes, that’s the group! I think I’m 5 days behind on it now…yipes.

  12. Er… would it be too egocentric to suggest Heather for a girl and Heath for a boy? ::shifty eyes::

Anyway, I was so happy to see Taryn get married. D’you think she and her husband will have any children and continue the Shanley line, giving everyone all sorts of fun cousins? Hehe.

Sad about Kaylynn, of course. :(

And I was just thinking how cool it would be to see a comprehensive view of the outside and inside of Shanley Manor! (And Uncle Liam’s, too… ::innocent look::) So I’d love it if you posted one.

  13. Aw, I’ll miss Kaylynn. I remember everytime my Sims marry Kaylynn (which is once), she was one of the best NPCs I’ve ever played! I’ll miss Kaylynn.

Hey, why don’t you just make them meditate until 6:00 pm? Isn’t that supposed to freeze their moods?

Great update! I love these LONG updates!!!
