Hooray for long weekends! I was able to play my Legacy Challenge family for several hours last night (staying up entirely too late, as you can see from the timestamp on my last post), and now, since I have the day off, I’m able to post an update. It’s not as long as the last one, but is long-ish, so I hope that works. ;-) Also, you might want to check up on the latest family tree before reading this post, as it switches between households again, which can be a bit confusing, I realize. Anyway, enough of my babbling. On with the update!
As you may recall from a past update, one of the neighborhood headmasters developed a bug and wouldn’t admit the Shanley kids into private school. He couldn’t sit down to eat and ended up leaving because he was starved. When I tried to call him again, he would say, “Sure, I’ll be there at 5:00!”, then not show up. I tried that for a few days in a row and with other headmasters as well. I figured I’d just have to do without private school for the rest of the challenge.
Well, someone posted on the TS2 Legacy Yahoo! Group that they had a headmaster bug which seemed to “fix” itself after several days, so I decided to try again. I invited the headmaster over, and amazingly enough, he showed up! I had Patrick shmooze with him for a bit, which went incredibly well.
Now, I was a little skeptical, since this was the same headmaster that bugged out on me last time. He also showed up on the edge of my lot once and stood there for a couple of days, not moving. No one could interact with him, either, so I ended up using the Moveobjects cheat to delete him. I think the headmasters in general are extremely buggy.
Watching things very carefully, I had Patrick give him the tour while Robi made salmon. The tour went well, so I called the headmaster to dinner. He sat down, started digging into his salmon, and I gave a little cheer. Then all of a sudden, after he had taken maybe one bite of salmon, he vanished into thin air. Just like that! No message popped up saying that my kids had gotten accepted or rejected — he was just gone. Sigh. I might try again in a few days, but I have to be careful when I risk it because both Robi and Patrick (Knowledge Sims) will lose big-time aspiration points if a rejection occurs.
Since Robi has maxed all of his skills and just wants to stargaze and have his kids become overachievers, I created a little apartment in the attic and placed a stairway in there which leads to the rooftop “observatory”. From there he can stargaze to his heart’s content and not have to venture all the way downstairs to eat. Why put the telescope up so high in the first place? Well, I read that the higher the telescope is, the more likely an alien abduction will occur. I’m not sure if that’s true, but since you get points for aliens born on the lot, and an alien child would make an interesting addition to the Shanley clan, I thought I’d try it out. Here’s Robi eating cereal in his little attic apartment:
Somewhere in all that, Kaylynn turned 79. I knew she would probably pass away at 6:00 PM the next day, when she turned 80, just as Devin had done. At least, I had to be ready for that eventuality. And I wasn’t going to lose another platinum headstone, goldarnit! Kaylynn wanted to cuddle her new grandchild, Owen, and teach him how to use the potty, so I had her do that, which put her in platinum. After that I let her do what she wanted for a bit. She ended up at the pinball machine with Fiona, who had become pregnant with child #5.
Her needs were full and everything looked good, so I had her sit and watch Owen while awaiting the Reaper. Her aspiration level continued to sink, however (it decays more quickly for elders), and hovered dangerously close to gold.
So I decided to fulfill one of her high-point wants as insurance. She wanted a relative to get engaged, which was worth 5,000 points. The only relatives who could get engaged were Taryn or Liam, so I switched over to Uncle Liam’s house for awhile. (continued on Page 2)
That’s one big family. Would be great to see a tour. Just an idea; Why don’t you let people choose the last three baby names?
Great idea, Nostalgia. Mary has already suggested the name Vesta for a girl, so the next girl will be named that. I’m open to suggestions for the other two kids!
What a great update! I just love your legacy family stories. What an adventure at Liams house wow…there was so much chaos. I love it when that happens…to other people. hehe
I would like the name Dubrey if it is a boy
I’ve started running out of inspiration for names, so I use a random name generator to find nice ones, but having other people pick names is great idea.
I’m going to have to read this one again (slowly) so I can take it all in.
Okay, silly question – when you switched to Liam’s house and then back to Kaylynn’s house, you said that Kaylynn was finally in platinum mood. I’m sorta confused because I know they don’t age while you’re not visiting. I know you were trying to get her to plat before she died. I guess my confusion was based on the way you were describing it. It almost seemed like Kaylynn was ascending to plat mood while you were in Liam’s house. Maybe I need to reread your story again. LOL Anway, pardon my rambles. :)
Wow! I just love your updates Jen! They are wordy, but that’s the great thing about them. It’s really nice to know the details about things. I think a tour of Shanley Manor would be great! I’ve been meaning to request that. I think the house looks beautiful from what I’ve seen. As for names, I’m not very good at that. I also use the random name generator. It works out best for me. I can’t wait for your next update! Have fun with whatever it is you plan on doing!
May I suggest Tebbany for if there’s another girl? Great work, sorry if anyone can’t access my Sims 2 Blog, Rioneh River. It’s down for possibly forever. Sincerely, Dustyn. :)
Kathy – They don’t age while you’re playing another house, but if something occurs that would give them aspiration points, they do accrue those points. In this case, Kaylynn wanted a relative to get married. It doesn’t matter if the relative is in her household or somewhere else — as soon as that relative gets married, she’ll get those points. Or rather, when I play her again, I will see that she has gotten the points. Hope that makes sense!
As for names, I love naming people and have no trouble coming up with names (I own about a dozen baby name books, hehe), but I do like the idea of having other people come up with names for Fiona’s last three kids, just because it’s fun. :-D
Nostalgia, you suggested Dubrey — it sounds cool, but how do you pronounce it? Dubree or Dubrae?
hehe finally, I’ve caught up to date with your stories. Length and wordy updates are good, I like them cause you feel more into the story knowign the details etc :) It’s great that you managed to maintain such a huge family (and growing!) wish I had the determination :p I’m decided from now on, I’ll have between 1-3 legacy kids and most likely only one will marry and continue the legacy while the other sibligs remain unmarried since I don’t have the determination to play multiple houses like I planned from the beginning :p
it’d be cool if we could name the babies! hehe, though I can’t think of any good ones at the moment. btw… have you joined the new LC yahoo! group sicne the old one closed down?
Hi Janice, I’ve joined the new Legacy Yahoo Group, but I’m super behind on reading the messages. I need to get caught up one of these days…and you are wise to stick to 1-3 kids per generation in your Legacy Challenge family — I’m definitely going back to my 2 kids per gen after this whole ‘Have 10 Kids’ madness is over with! I just wanted to see if I could do it. I guess we’ll see.
Jen – your explanation was perfect. It makes a lot of sense because Summer got a want fulfilled because I gave her a bookcase in her house and she wanted a bookcase. It was when I unpaused the game when I saw that she earned those aspiration points. I just didn’t realize it could go beyond the lot! I know I can look forward to that when I build a non-heir lot to accompany my Legacy lot.
Is this the group you’re talking about:
TS2 Classic Legacy Yahoo! Group
oh, crap! i messed up your layout, Jen! my bad!!! just change it to a clickable link. sorry!
Hehe, no problem, Kathy! I fixed it. And yes, that’s the group! I think I’m 5 days behind on it now…yipes.
Er… would it be too egocentric to suggest Heather for a girl and Heath for a boy? ::shifty eyes::
Anyway, I was so happy to see Taryn get married. D’you think she and her husband will have any children and continue the Shanley line, giving everyone all sorts of fun cousins? Hehe.
Sad about Kaylynn, of course. :(
And I was just thinking how cool it would be to see a comprehensive view of the outside and inside of Shanley Manor! (And Uncle Liam’s, too… ::innocent look::) So I’d love it if you posted one.
Aw, I’ll miss Kaylynn. I remember everytime my Sims marry Kaylynn (which is once), she was one of the best NPCs I’ve ever played! I’ll miss Kaylynn.
Hey, why don’t you just make them meditate until 6:00 pm? Isn’t that supposed to freeze their moods?
Great update! I love these LONG updates!!!
