All My Shanleys

At any rate, I switched back over to the main house to check on Devin. Sure enough, he was in full platinum. He had one want to flirt with his wife, so I had them flirt and hug one last time.

Devin and Kaylynn hug

Devin still had several hours before he turned 80 (my timing was all wrong — I should have switched over to Liam’s later in the day), so I sent him to bed. I had read on the Legacy Challenge Yahoo! Group that the aspiration level decays more slowly — if at all — while Sims are sleeping. I hoped to keep Devin in platinum for as long as possible that way. Unfortunately he woke up with an hour to go before he would turn 80 at 6:00, and I was wary that he would slip into gold in that time.

I also noticed at this time that he had a Fear of losing Tiffy Kilman as a best friend. Well, much to my horror, it happened at right around that time, so his aspiration level slipped into gold. He had a want to invite Tiffy over, so I had him call her, which bumped him back into platinum. His other wants were things like “Patrick grows up well” and “Patrick has a great party” but Patrick was sleeping and wouldn’t be able to grow up until 6:00 PM. That was cutting it a bit close, since I knew the Reaper could show up any time after 6:00.

Devin had a want to Play with Tiffy, so I was counting on that, but as he was going to the door to let her in, the Reaper showed up. Right at that exact moment he slipped back down into Gold. D’OH! All of that hard work for nothing. The hula dancers showed up and Devin disappeared, leaving a plain gray urn behind him. Sigh.

Tiffy, you were too late!

After that unfortunate event, Patrick woke up, so I threw him a mini-birthday party. He became a teen and rolled Knowledge for his aspiration, yay! You can see in the picture that Fiona was pregnant again — her sixth child (fourth if you don’t count the ones she adopted).

Patrick grows up

I took this pic of Fiona and Patrick so I could examine their profiles. Fiona has Kaylynn’s pointy nose but the Shanley family chin. Patrick has the family chin and the family nose — in fact, his profile reminds me of Devin’s and Liam’s. Robi has that same kind of nose, so I guess the family gene pool has a double dose of it now!

Patrick even looks like Devin and Liam from the front a little, but he has his father Robi’s eyes.

Patrick Shanley

I was glad to see that Patrick is carrying on the family tradition of playing in the bathtub!

While everyone was asleep that night, Fiona had her baby, another boy! I named him Owen. I have a feeling he will be another Patrick clone (like Callum) and end up living at Uncle Liam’s, but I do need a spare heir, so we’ll see. Maybe he’ll surprise me.

Whew, long update there! I hope to play some more tonight, so maybe we’ll have another update tomorrow. And perhaps another family tree. This family is getting to be huge! I think after I fulfill Fiona’s “Have 10 kids” want I’ll go back to just having two kids every generation. Otherwise I’ll end up with enough Shanleys to fill their own neighborhood. That might be cool, though…

  1. wooow, I got upset about all that hardwork lost! I’m so sorry that happen, I guess is like real life, there are things we can’t completely control. But life go on in the Sims world! I love that pic of Patrick playin in the tub! nice update btw!

  2. I’m sorry about Devin! Same thing happened to me this morning with Vasyl. He had a want to throw a party, and just as he decended the stairs to go to the phone, the reaper came. It sucks that all your hard work is gone! :(

I loved the update too! I have a thing for long updates…Looking forward to your next Shanley update!

  3. Very nice update, Jen! I agree with Kristina. Long updates are nice. I think Zuzu is a very pretty teenager! She definitely has grown into her face. I wonder if she’ll be even prettier when she’s an adult…? Can’t wait for the next update!

  4. I havn’t bought Sims2 yet as I don’t own a compter that would be able to handle but reading your blogs makes me really want to get it and find ouit what happens to your families. i think you’ve done a great job and I love reading about your Legacy Family.

  5. yeah, it’s disappointing when you go through all that and then the Sim dies while in gold. :( i’m sorry, Jen!

oh, i’m finally going to start my Legacy Challenge. i have yet to create my Sim and my lot, but at least i finally decided that i’m going to start it. i should be able to post something about it tonight. i have decided to start the LC in a neighborhood all on its own.

for some reason, i feel nervous and sad about this… i guess it’s because i have to keep aging on. oh, well, wish me luck!

  6. I’m sorry that you didn’t get plat, but gold is great too! I know you’re doing the legacy so plat is important but gold is an amazing feat to accomplish with Sims. I know my Sims will all die at the bottom of the ladder – whatever that might be. LOL

Great update. This is such a fun family to watch and your writing is superb. Not managing every aspect of a Sim must be difficult after you’ve done so much legacy work. :-) My daughter can’t imagine all on free will and I can’t imagine the opposite. I think the rules you outlined with be a nice blend. I’m starting a blended household to take over after all my little Freaks meet the reaper.

  7. Sorry about Devin. Hey could you put up another family tree. Its all getting more confusing since you been trying for that 10 babies.

  8. Yeah, that is real bad luck having him drop back into gold just as the reaper came.
And I second the request for a family tree, I’m starting to lose track of who everyone is.

  9. Loving the new update. May I kindly, third, the request for a family tree… lol. Sorry if it feels like you’re being bombarded for another family tree. It would be heaps helpful. Oh, by the way, you may have to just cancel my link for Rioneh River until further notice. Unfortunately, a bug of some sort came into my game just yesterday and I had to restart my neighbourhood. (All of my houses would crash the game when I was entering the house…) Oh well, I have been half wishing to restart my neighbourhood but it was a bit of a shock to me to actually do it. keep up teh great work and thanks for your time to keeping all us “selfish” readers wants and needs for reading your entries. Sincerely, Dustyn

  10. Oh, man, that stinks about Devin.
I believe I will blame it on the Reaper’s hula dancers. They’re up to something… I’m telling you, they ARE! >_> The accursed wenchlets.
The picture of Patrick playing in the bathtub was a cute one, especially. Congrats on Owen, anyway! :D

  11. Just to reiterate what everyone said… too bad about Devin. I was actually more sad that he died than he wasn’t in platinum while it happened. Man, when I finally get Sims 2 I’m going to be so sad whenever one of my sims dies… They’re like my children!

And I also wanted to say that I love the gang who live with Uncle Liam.. it’s such a neat set up… a bunch of kids with their crazy old uncle. Liam’s definitely one of my favorite Shanleys just because he’s so quirky and adorable.

Speaking of adorable.. Patrick grew into a VERY cute teenager! I just love his eyes. I hope that’s one genetic feature that gets passed down the Shanley line!

Wonderful update, Jen… it’s so nice living vicariously through sim blogs until the day I finally get my beloved game… ::sigh:: Make longer updates more often, they’re such fun! ^_^

  12. Wow, loong update. I couldn’t even finish it last night ^_^ I think it’s such pressure to try to keep your sim in platinum when they die, apparently it is for you also. You always have to watch the time and all that, it’s so confusing. I’m not keeping score in my Legacy anymore, I just let it be.

Great job, Jen, can’t wait to read the tree (or see).
