A Little Retrospective

I didn’t get a chance to play any Sims tonight, but I couldn’t go without posting on the last day of the year, so I combed through my Legacy Challenge family pictures and decided to share a bunch that never made it into my updates. It was fun to look through the old pics of the Shanley family in their little house and see how far they’ve come in just a few generations.

I have to say that the snapshots are a bit random — there’s a good reason why some of them never made it into my updates! I hope you will enjoy them anyway.

Here’s Sheldon, way back in 1st Generation, about to set his Baked Alaska on fire. Sheldon was the mailman until he married my Legacy founder, Nia Shanley. Eventually he became the mayor of Mt. Geneva.

Sheldon and Nia gave birth to a set of lovely twins, Kiara and Bree — though they didn’t look much alike…

Kiara and Bree

Aw, I miss those kids. They’ve been my favorite kids in the family so far. Anyway, since Bree had a few more personality points than Kiara, Bree become my Legacy heir. She married Leo the gardener and had two sons with him, Devin and Liam.

In this next pic, Sheldon, Leo (in the white coat), Nia, Bree, and family friend Marsha Bruenig have dinner with Alex P. Keaton. He, of course, advised them on how to move up the career ladder as quickly as possible (Fortune Sim, heh).

Here’s Nia, my Legacy Founder, running off to her job as a Business Tycoon. On the wall behind her hangs the portrait that Sheldon painted of her. Ah, the memories! Now I just see her ghost all the time.

Leo and Liam play chess while Devin chats on the computer. It’s a nice close-up shot of teenaged Devin. Little did he know I’d be stuffing him into a Santa suit someday…

Leo, Liam, and Devin

Married elders are all about the making out (and the subsequent woohoo). Here Bree and Leo show the kids how it’s done.

Here’s a decent close-up of Uncle Liam before he went all gray and moved out of the house. I experimented with sharpening this picture, and I’m not sure I like the results. It went from being slightly blurry to being slightly grainy. Oh well!

Here’s Fiona, my current Legacy heir, on her birthday. She’s being held by her mother Kaylynn, who is pregant with Taryn. From left to right the attendees are: Kiara Shanley, Johnny Depp (my sister made him, hee!), Bree Shanley, Tiffy Kilman, Devin Shanley, Melissa Fancey, Liam Shanley, and Leo Shanley. Quite the crowd! And all for little Fiona.

Fiona's birthday party

Here’s Fiona as a teen, hanging out at the tiny little shopping center I built for downtown Mt. Geneva. She is utterly bored by her conversation with Doug…something or other. I can’t remember his last name!

Fiona yawns at Doug

Here’s Devin as an elder playing chess with himself. I was just messing around with cameraman mode here, trying to get a good angle.

This was just one of those weird moments — Taryn happened to be sitting in the kitchen when Nia’s ghost jumped out of the table. It looked like Nia was playing some bizarre version of leap frog.

And here’s a shot of the family cemetery with the headstones of Nia, Kiara, and Leo (Sheldon and Bree died in Gold, so I deleted their markers). Hopefully it’ll contain quite a few more platinum headstones before I get to generation 10…

So there you go, a little recap of my Legacy Family mixed with some “outtakes”. I promise I’ll have a real update next time.

Until then, I hope everyone has a very safe and happy New Year’s Eve!

  1. Very good idea and very fun to look at! It reminds me of your past updates and how much the Shanley family ahs grown! I have so many outtakes of things! It’s crazy! I probably won’t do one of these type of posts until around the 9th or 10th generation……Wow that seems so far away, and it probably will be! School starts again soon so I won’t have half as much time to play and update! Oh well. At least I know this challenge will give me something to do for a while! Happy New Year!

  2. Oh wow… I can’t wait until I am able to put all of my pictures (when I take them) in order… See you in the New Year, everybody! Bye…

  3. The Johnny Depp thing made me laugh so hard! Lol. Tell your sister she’s very creative ^_^

    This is a smart idea even though I can’t believe you kept the pictures for so long! Usually when I don’t use I picture I just delete them… ;_;

Happy New Years everyone! I hope we have a good 2005! (By the way, I’m going to update my album later today. So check back ^_^)

  4. That was great seeing the Shanley family from the beginning again! I don’t have any gold headstones yet, (just two platinum) but I might just delete the gold ones like you did when I get one. There’s no use for them right? Except to scare the pants off your sims.

  5. love the outtakes!!! i have lots of famous sims in my neighborhood but i haven’t had my main family go out and meet them yet. i think when i start playing my other families (my real Sim family) you’ll be seeing them in some upcoming pics.

i also keep all my pictures. i have so many of them. i had to rename my Storytelling folder to something else and create an empty one because it was just taking forever for it to load. my original Storytelling folder had 2,700 pics (counting thumbnails and snapshots). the current one is almost at 400. i forget i can pause the game to take a good pic. i have missed some classic facial expressions because i kept on snapping away while the game was running.

    Happy New Year, Jen!!!

  6. It was fun to see some moments from the early days – before I’d found your blog. You’ve clearly put a lot of work into managing this family which is always entertaining to read.

Your mention of the elders always wanting to “whohoo” explains why mine are always making out, hugging and kissing. I didn’t think that they’d do this on their own but the will as elders.

    Have a happy new year!

  7. I don’t know if I have ever signed here before. I feel bad since I have been reading this almost daily for about a month. Anyways always love your pics and descriptions. But in general I cannot believe how good this blog is. I went to some of the others you recommened and was not impressed. Guess after this one I got a little spoiled. Anyway keep up the good writing. Happy New Year.

  8. This was so much fun to read and very helpful to keep track of all your hiers. I’ve got so many posts to catch up on reading from everyone because I was away for a bit. Sheesh. It’s funny how things work out sometimes, when I have nothing to do there are no new updates but when I’m busy there are tons. hehe. :P
