All Aboard the Legacy Train

Things keep chugging along in my Legacy Challenge family…

Kaylynn has been going to work off and on, so she finally got promoted to Astronaut. Unfortunately the very next day I made a bad chance card choice (will I ever learn?) and she lost her job. I’m not sure if I’ll have her get another job or let her spend her remaining 10 days at home with her grandkids.

Devin finally made it to Captain Hero, the top of the Law Enforcement career. His carpool is extremely cool, and I took a picture of it, but I don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t had a Captain Hero Sim yet. If you’ve already seen it or you don’t mind being spoiled, you can click here to see Devin leaving for work.

A couple of days after the twins were born, I had Fiona and Robi try for a baby again. This time it took THREE tries before they succeeded in getting pregnant. Poor dears, I’m probably wearing them out. I’ve gotten better at training the toddlers, too, so both Patrick and Zuzu learned how to walk, talk, and use the potty before they grew into children. Smart Milk is the best! And having relatives around to help really makes a difference.

Here’s pregnant Fiona holding Zuzu…

The twins were pretty cute when they were toddlers, but as children they look a bit odd to me. I’m hoping they will grow into their faces, if that makes any sense.

Zuzu and Patrick

After I took their little portrait picture, I sent them to their new beds upstairs. They did the thing where they go up invisible stairs to the second floor, as seen over on Heidi’s blog. As they did so, they thought about the microwave. Weird!

While cooking dinner one evening, Fiona started a fire (we’re having fires right and left all of a sudden), and the fireman came to the rescue. Just after he finished dousing the flames, Fiona went into labor. The fireman looked a little embarrassed to be witnessing the birth!

Fiona goes into labor

She had a baby boy with grey eyes and brown hair (I can tell from the eyebrows). I named him Callum. So that’s child #3 for Fiona — #5 if you count the siblings she adopted. I have decided to go for that “Have 10 Kids” want of Fiona’s, so I’m sure life at Shanley Manor will be a bit hectic in the next few days (but not really any more hectic than usual!).

The Impossible Wants are sort of like mini-challenges within the larger scope of the Legacy Challenge, and so far I have been pretty lax in tackling them. The only Impossible Wants I have fulfilled have been the Knowledge Sims’ “Max All Skills” wants, and those are easy to accomplish. (I’m not even going to touch Devin’s “Have 30 Best Friends” want — he would have to make 18 more Best Friends in the 7 days before his death, and I don’t think I have the stamina for that!)

Because Fiona already has 5 kids, I think I can get to 10 kids fairly easily. She has 13 days left until she becomes an elder, but with a few helpings of Elixir, she should be able to do it. The only problem I can foresee is a severe lack of room in the house — we’re already maxed at 8, and it’ll be a long time before the twins will be old enough to move out (the adopted kids are living with Uncle Liam).

Here’s who we have living in the house currently:

Devin – 3rd gen, Elder, Popularity
Kaylynn – 3rd gen, Elder, Family
Fiona – 4th gen, Adult, Family
Taryn – 4th gen, Adult, Knowledge
Robi – 4th gen, Adult, Knowledge
Patrick – 5th gen, Child (twin)
Zuzu – 5th gen, Child (twin)
Callum – 5th gen, Baby

Before Fiona can have another child, someone has to go. I don’t want to kill any of my Sims outright, so that’s not an option. I could move someone out of the house, but I’m reluctant to do that because it would probably be Taryn, and I can get two points from her if she maxes all her skills and dies in platinum. Kaylynn can only give me 1 point because I didn’t go for either of her Impossible Wants (Have 10 Kids or Have 20 Grandchildren), so I just might have her move out. It would be interesting if I could get her to move in with Liam so I could still play her, at least until she passes on. She could spend more time with her other three children that way, too. Hmmm…

When I think about it, it seems kind of silly to move Kaylynn out and lose her platinum headstone point just to get one point for fulfilling Fiona’s Impossible Want. It’s a point either way, so why bother? Then again, I enjoy these mini-challenges — it keeps the game interesting for me. And my Legacy score is fairly mediocre anyway. So I think I’ll go for it.

Anyway, enough of my thinking out loud! Here’s how things are going at good old Uncle Liam’s house if you’re curious… (continued on page 2)

  1. Wow! I took a look at the Berthiaume Manor. You’re really good!
I can’t wait for the group chat option from University either! I just love expansion packs! :-)
Moving Kaylynn into Uncle Liam’s house would be cool, but very very sad and weird. I’m used to seeing her in the main house! But then again I had to get used to Uncle Liam and the kids moving out too and now it’s just fine. Well good luck with Kaylynn and her 10 kids want! I hope you can do it in time! (This is what Elixer of Life is good for, right?) Lol. Good Luck again!

  2. yeh, one of the bummers of the chatting is you can’t chat in groups! only one on one. Though, when they sit down at a dinning table, do talk as a group of do they talk to one particular person. So if there were 6 people at the dinning table, they’d be 3 different conversations?

good luck with the have 10 babies want (then the 20 grandchildren want!) I have yet to attempt that.

  3. Wow! After a long night’s work I finally got my Legacy Challenge all figured out and uploaded onto TheSims2.com. Go check it out if ya want! Just click on my name and let me know what you think! Thanks so much Jen for inspiring me to do this! It really is fun and gets you into the game so much more.

  4. Captain Hero…LOL…It’s fun seeing things in the game that I don’t/won’t experience with my families, since I like the work/live-in concept so that everyone is around all the time.

  5. Aw, so Kaylynn’s going to move out? But she was such a good mother! Ah, well. I hope you have good luck achieving that want. I usually just leave it alone. It’s way too chaotic for me…

I love knowledge Sims. You should consider yourself very fortunate to have three knowledge Sims in the other house. They’re so easy to get in Platinum.

Another wonderful story, I love it how you update everyday. Not a lot of people do that…

  6. Your twin faces do look weird, does that happen a lot? Jen you should really be pround of your website and you do such a great job. I love coming everyday and look in on your sims. If they are giving awards for blog you should win it hands down. Some people may claim being more orginal but you are very dedicated to you sims and that devotion makes you blog stand out above the rest. I have one quick question, since your sim is now Hero, can he really fly? or was that a cliche?
Devoted to your blog always, Mary

  7. Leslie – After some thinking today (it’s a bit slow at work, can you tell?) I’ve decided not to move Kaylynn out. I’m expecting Devin to start having those Flirt and Woohoo wants anyday now, and Kaylynn needs to be around to help him fulfill those! Hee! So if I move anyone out, it will be Taryn. Or I’ll keep giving Robi and Fiona the elixir until their kids can start moving out! This is going to be one loooong generation, I can feel it…

Mary – Thanks as always for your kind compliments! I love this game and love sharing my stories & pics, so I’m glad you enjoy them so much. :-D To answer your question, Devin only does that when he leaves for work or comes home. It’s a nice touch, isn’t it?

  8. Jen, where do you get your name ideas. I like the new baby’s name. Does it mean or stand for anything? I was wondering, and this is just a suggestion, can you name the next girl Vesta. I think it was the Roman Goddess of hearth.(I think hearth one of the meaning is family life;the home) Just thought I asked :)

  9. Just thought you would want to know Jen-I have my Sims 2 blog up. It’s not gorgous at all, but for now, I am just happy to have it up, so I can share my stories! Thanks for the inspiration!

Also, on my Legacy that I finished, Robi’s 10 children, (yes 10!) were gorgous, especially the girls. So your twins will probably grow into their faces. If you want to see pictures of Robi’s kids, just e-mail me.

  10. I agree with the twin face thing. Zuzu especially. But yeah, hopefully they will grow into their faces. Good luck with that!
Oh and by the way, I updated my Legacy Challenge if you want to go ahead and read it :-) I’m having lots of fun with it this time around!

  11. This was a great story, I’ve been missing my normal reads since it’s the holidays and all but yours has been so entertaining! I look forward to it all the time. I didn’t know that adopted kids counted towards the 10 kids and 20 grandkids want, that makes it a little easier! Good luck with that, I can’t wait to see the chaos. :D

  12. your legacy family looks like it is coming along so great. It is fun watching the different generations in your pictures. Keep up the fabulous job. Hehehe…playing sims can be a job at times.

I have one family going that is like a soap opera, I swear. She was married…her and her husband (I created them together) were not compatible. She fell in love with the girl next door and became a lesbian. :) She moved out and was pregnant with her husbands second child. SO, two daughters later…she moves back in with husband to try and raise the kids. But the other woman kept coming around. And the husband was jealous. So, she moved in with the girlfriend again…leaving her two kids with the ex husband now. Oh, then husband got married to the girl he truly adores…and she is now pregnant with his child #3. Are you getting all this? LOL! It’s a job, I swear. But oh sao fun. LOL!

  13. Jen, you have inspired me greatly to begin my own Sims 2 blog. I love your work and I hope you will continue it for the New Year into what I’m sure will be a fantastic time for you and your sims, as well as your devoted readers and followers. Please check out my own spanking new blog. It’s my URI… By the way, it’s thanks to Kristina, who commented above, that I found http://www.blogsome.com a free WordPress blog provider. I can never be more thankful. Sincerely, Dustyn.

  14. Unfortunately, complete with dismayful howls, I am now unable to post anything on my new blog. I had entered a long post on my neighbourhoods residents, but forgot to save, and so when the “page could not be displayed” to publish it on my site… I lost all information. I am now very unhappy, as you can imagine. I do not know if I have the mental effort to continue. Sincerely, Dustyn.

  15. Hurts, doesn’t itm Dustyn? I did the same thing, typed out a huge post on the history of my legacy family that I didn’t capture in photos, and then, “page could not be displayed” and it’s all gone. ;_;
I’m going to have to re-type it all another day, but in the meanwhile, I’ve made a quick introduction to my current legacy residents.

  16. Wow! Same thing happened to me a couple hours ago! I press Publish and it says Web Site Not Responding. Very weird, since it seems to be not just me. It better be working tomorrow…or I will be one mad girl.

  17. I’ve been working with blogsome.com too and it did the same exact thing to me and I can not do anything with my blog for the time being. I was so excited about having my own blog! What a disappointment!

  18. Dustyn – Argh, that sucks. I don’t blame you for being frustrated, but I really hope you’ll try again if you regain your enthusiasm — I have a feeling your blog would be awesome. :-)

iamausername – Yay! I visited your blog and left a comment. :-)

I hope the “Page Not Displayed” epidemic of tonight is just a hiccup and that you guys have an easier time of things tomorrow…

  19. Thanks for you support there. You have no idea how much it helps to know other people are dealing with the same problems. Thankfully, I moved on ASAP. After half an hour of despair I decided not to give up and continued to search for a better service. In the end, I am now with http://www.ebloggy.com Also, I am a pretty quick typist and have saved all of my entries in NotePad first, so I can now easily recover if it happens again. Feel free to check the new one out, it’s alright and I much prefer my new sotry. I’ve learnt my lesson. :S I have cancelled my account with all of the other services… Wish me luck! Just as I wish you all luck as well, throughout the New Year. Sincerely, Dustyn.

  20. Have just realised I linked wrongly. Sorry. Takes getting used to understanding all this. :) Please check it out. I really admire everyone’s blogs and I’m hoping mine is up to your standards, everyone. Sincerely, Dustyn

  21. Dustyn, I think the link is still wrong, but I clicked around and found you here (I hope that’s the right one, let me know if it isn’t). I left some comments, too! Great start so far and I look forward to reading more.

  22. Thanks. Your comments made my day. :) I have been admiring your blog for a long time, my sister and I also adore your Blackberry Place. I am just needing to get some pictures and then I can post again. :) It was the right site, thanks for making the effort to find it. Thank again. Me=babbling again. Sincerely, Dustyn.

  23. Wow. After what seemed like the end of my blogging day, I finally did it. I found the perfect blog host: tBLOG.com. I seriously went through like 5 different hosts and they all had something wrong with them. I was actually quite satisfied with my first one on blogsome.com but it isn’t working tonight. Maybe it will come back up one of these days. *Crosses Fingers* But for now, I have the perfect one. It’s rather boring looking but that’s OK. It’s the inside that counts, right? Take a look if you want….I only have an introductory post right now. But I will have many more in no time. (Hopefully tomorrow afternoon.) Thanks everyone!

  24. Lol. Oops, sorry about that. I realized as soon as I pushed the button that I had the wrong URI. The right one is the 2nd one! :-O Goodnight!

  25. Jessica – Cool, I’m glad you finally found something that works for you! I couldn’t leave a comment (hope that won’t be a common problem for you), so I’ll leave one here — Looks great so far, and I am anxiously awaiting your next post. I love the Paloma/Mellons! Plus it’s just fun to say…Paloma Mellon…sorta rolls off the tongue. :-)

  26. Mary – Just realized I had neglected to answer your question about names! I’ve been choosing Irish names or variants thereof so far for my Legacy Family — except for Zuzu — but I’m running out of Irish names I really like, so I will probably use your suggestion of Vesta for an upcoming child. Wouldn’t it be cool if she turned out to be a Family Sim? To answer your question, the name “Callum” apparently means “Dove”. I have about 6 baby name books that I draw names from.

  27. I have a new website also. I’m so glad everyone will get one of their own! Now I have so many sites to look at! Anyways, I started one at Blogger.com called Simming Along. Right now there’s only one post, the Welcome post. Soon I will put up my Legacy stories…

Oh yeah, Dustyn, I tried the website you said had wordpress but it didn’t work well. Thanks for suggesting it, though!

  28. I was actually thinking Blogcome.com would be working this morning, but it isn’t, so I am also swithcing to tblog.com. I found it last night when seaching for hosts for WordPress. Hopefully this one works!

  29. Guys, I found a new site that’s as good as blogsome.com! It’s also powered by wordpress and it’s called wpblogs.com! It’s really good and you can acctually update stuff. Check it out. It’s identical to blogsome but it works!
