Sing Me a Swing Song

Things are progressing rather slowly in my Legacy Challenge house lately — the teenage years seem interminable! For some reason I’m just itching to get to fourth generation. Perhaps it’s because I still haven’t gotten attached to Devin and Liam. I don’t know what it is, but they bore me to pieces. They just go to school, bring friends home, play videogames, and go to bed. I should probably be letting Devin sneak out at night so he can get arrested or something. At least THAT would be interesting. :-)

Last night, however, they cracked me up. As you might recall from my last post, I am hoping to get Devin and the maid Kaylynn to be friends so that when Devin grows up, they can get married and produce the fourth generation of the Shanley Legacy. I had Bree become friends with Kaylynn while the boys were at school, so now when Kaylynn is done with her work, she asks Bree if she wants to hang out. Bree says yes, and then Kaylynn is around when the boys come home.

Well, poor Devin — when he gets home from school, he has an hour before the carpool picks him up for work. So last night I had him talk to Kaylynn during that brief time, and they seemed to hit it off pretty well. No bad conversations as far as I could tell. When he left for work, their daily relationship score was at 17. I figured that was a good start.

Conversations in the yard

I went and directed Bree to go swimming in the new pool, since she has to raise her Body score by four more points in order to max all of her skills.

When I looked back at Liam, he was pushing Kaylynn on the swings. He seems to get a real kick out of it. He did it later, too, after Devin got home (which is when this picture was taken). Since Devin is always bringing friends home from work or school, he tends to hang out with them primarily — in the picture below, you can see Devin in the window talking to Sophie Miguel. Liam, however, always seems to be hanging around Kaylynn. I’m sure it has nothing to do with their personalities — both Devin and Liam are Leos and have the exact same personality scores — so it must be just timing.

He and Kaylynn also played some chess, since I’m trying to max his Logic skill, and she was already playing.

By the end of the night, Liam and Kaylynn were friends, with their daily relationship score at 57. Is Liam scamming on Devin’s future wife, or what? For a minute I thought about having Liam marry her instead, but he’s four days younger than Devin, and I don’t think I can wait that long. Devin has four days to adult as it is! Yes, I’m quite impatient to ring in the fourth generation.

Liam and Devin are practically the same person anyway (they’re more twin-like than the twins are), and Kaylynn seems to get along well with both, so it really doesn’t matter. She and Liam can just be friends. You know, unless Devin gets scared to death by a ghost or something.

Speaking of ghosts, Nia’s spectre showed up again last night. Now that I’ve learned a bit more about ghosts, I think I can guess why — for one, all of the bushes in the yard were in dire need of a trim. Ghosts like to have the grounds kept up, for whatever reason. Secondly, I had deleted her old bed a few days before. Apparently ghosts also get angry when you sell their bed. And thirdly, I had forgotten to have everyone mourn her tombstone that day. Woops. She seems to enjoy scaring poor Liam, which was also the case the last time she showed up. And he wasn’t even a Knowledge Sim back then — he was still a child. At least he gets aspiration points for it now!

Nia's ghost scares Liam

Now that Bree and Leo are elders, they no longer have the “See a ghost” want spin up as often, so I couldn’t get them any points by having them run into Nia. So they blithely went about their business while she haunted around the house. Here’s a picture of Nia being grumpy about her bed…

Nia scowls over the loss of her bed

I’ve also been having Kiara create a lot of paintings because I’m trying to fulfill her “Sell a Masterpiece” want, and so far none of the paintings she has sold have done the trick. They all sold for around the §420 range. Last night she finally painted one that was worth §602 (which may or may not be enough to qualify), but I just couldn’t sell it — I liked it too much! I put it on the wall instead. She’s currently painting some clowns which I will hopefully be able to sell.

That’s it for now…I’m moving tomorrow, and my internet access may be spotty for a few days, but I have a backlog of pics, so I might be able to sneak in some posts here and there. Until then, Happy Simming!

  1. good luck on your move, Jen! thanks for yet another Legacy installment. you’re the only one that i follow (since you post about them so often) so it’s easy to follow all the generations. every once in a while, do you think you could post a family tree? i wonder if those who are deceased still show up… that would be neat to see.

  2. Looks like your legacy family is going well. I know what you mean about it movign so slow sometiems though, I’m only into my 2nd generation and it already seems a bit liek a chore. lol… at first I thought Liam and Devin WERE twins :p they look so alike

  3. I’m in the same boat as Janice. I’m only on my second generation but already things seem to be moving so slow. I’m don’t know if I have the patience to do it for ten generations. lol

  4. I’m up to my third generation but I think I’ve only posted up to my second. I need to do that today, I’ve been slacking!

I’m sorry to hear that your boys were boring :( Since Madeline is considerably older than Ian was, her kid is now a teenager, he’s also a Romance Sim but he’s an A+ kid so he’s not going to be a slacker, I really like him though. I’m trying to do more with him as a teenager, like first kiss and go out. I think Ian’s kid is still a toddler so he’s not that interesting yet…but I did manage to train him on walking, potty training, and talking all without smart milk! I also managed to get Ian’s wife saved from death because she was going to die of starvation!

Cathy’s idea of a family tree is a good one. I think you should do it! I might have to do it too :)

  5. Kathy – cool idea to post a screenshot of the family tree. I’ll have to do that.

Janice & Kara – What keeps me going is the anticipation of the next generation — I can’t wait to see what the kids will look like, and what their personalities will be. But it can still be a chore, definitely. I think I’ll have more kids in 4th gen, just for variety. That should work well, since I’ve heard that Kaylynn is a Family Sim. Woo!

Heidi – I would love to see how your third generation is doing! Wow, you managed to save a Sim from Death…some of my Knowledge Sims want to be saved from death, but I haven’t gotten the courage to try it yet, especially since it’s the Legacy Challenge, and I can’t not save if things go badly.

  6. The Saving from Death was totally by chance! I didn’t try to starve her to death, it just sort of happened because there was so much going on. I thought though, since it was the challenge and you just have to take what comes your way then I would’ve had to just let her go…I got really lucky in the end though! Anyway, I have my updates for Madeline’s half of the family up now!

  7. Very fun legacy family. It’s still fun to read, even when you’re getting impatient about the progress. :-) Man I want some ghosts! LOL
