Maude here with the continuing tale of Joely Dobbins and her marriage to erstwhile womanizer, Nick. I say ‘erstwhile’ because he seemed to give up his wanton habits when he married Joely. After all, he did as he said he would, and procured a job — as a dishwasher at Spanky’s Steakhouse. As for Joely, her urgent desire to marry Nick had been fulfilled, so she focused on her career for a time, moving up to the position of Nurse at the Mt. Geneva Clinic.
For awhile the newlyweds basked in the glow of the honeymoon phase. They purchased new furniture for the house, met more neighbors, and worked on improving useful skills such as cooking and cleaning. But eventually Joely felt her maternal urges returning, and she asked Nick if he would like to try for a baby. He thought it was a splendid idea. They got right down to business, and very soon Joely was pregnant!
She had a rather easy pregnancy, with very little sickness. She took time off from her job, got plenty of rest, and ate ravenously. Nick often rubbed her belly and helped around the house, doing his share of the cleaning and cooking. In fact, he became such a marvelous chef that he ended up cooking most of the family meals.
When baby Will was born, Nick and Joely celebrated by purchasing baby furniture and other doo-dads. Nick was a loving father, and spent a lot of time holding the baby…
…and using odd contraptions to potty-train him.
Eventually Will grew up into a smart, well-adjusted boy!
Will was a rather serious but very friendly child with a wide variety of interests. He always did his homework and cleaned up after himself, which made his parents very proud indeed. They were a tight-knit little trio, working hard to achieve success. Joely in particular wanted the very best life for her son and hoped her promotions at work would allow them to buy a better house someday soon.
Here’s the little dickens talking to his friend Marsha about traveling to far off places…
Nick, on the other hand…well, he remained a caring father and husband, but started to slip a little in the old fidelity department. The Dobbinses had recently hired a maid named Lucy to keep their modest abode clean and sparkly, and Nick couldn’t help but notice her particular charms. He had always fancied redheads, and Lucy was no exception. One day while Nick was home from work and everyone else was gone, he struck up a conversation with her, and found that they both enjoyed certain…ahem…activities.
So it seems that philandering single men never really settle down — they just become philandering husbands! At least in this case, they seem to. Will Nick give in to his temptations, or remain faithful to Joely? We shall see…
