Moonrise and Sunset

M.A.B.

The moon rose over the countryside, casting an eerie glow over the lake.

Bah, too typical.

M.A.B.

Stoney Mountain stood proudly in the fading twilight as its tumbling waters lulled the gnomes to sleep…

Gnomes, what? This is supposed to be a science fiction novel, not Booky Bufkin and the Sorceror’s bleepin’ Stone! Ugh.

Maybe I need more ice cream. Or a long chat with Theodore.

M.A.B.

As the moon rose over Sunset Valley, all was quiet. In the harbor, the comforting beams of the lighthouse swept across the water, guiding the fisherman home. But it was also guiding something…else. Something…not of this world.

M.A.B.

Sigh. I’m churning out nothing but crap tonight. I’ll never get a chapter done at this rate. A paragraph would be a miracle.

Time to hit the hay.

M.A.B.

I thought moving to Sunset Valley would inspire me. It’s something NEW. Pigeondale is a lovely place, but I’d been there forever. And my mom was always on my case. “When are you going to get a real job, Meryll? When are you going to GROW UP?”

M.A.B.

“I am grown up, mother. I am a very sophisticated woman. I drink tea and wear shoes that tie and do very grown-up things.”

M.A.B.

“Meryll, honey…you talk to teddy bears. You eat ice cream for dinner. You have whole conversations with yourself in the mirror. You need help.”

M.A.B.

“But…but…I’m FINE!”

So…yeah. That’s why I left Pigeondale. My mom’s a nut anyway. Besides, it’s beautiful here! So many places to go and people to meet. Hm, I guess I do feel inspired.

I just…can’t seem to write. Yet.

M.A.B.

As I head to my room, I realize I haven’t spoken to another person all day. (Conversations with my pretend-mother don’t count.)

M.A.B.

I am really truly alone here. And somehow…I don’t mind. But it would be healthy to meet some Sunset Valleyites. (If nothing else, people are awesome fodder for novels.)

M.A.B.

But there’s no need to rush. I’m enjoying the anonymous feeling I have right now. Nobody knows I’m a big dork yet. At least, I don’t think they do.

It’s only a matter of time.

  1. Heh … my security word was Ikea … guess that means the computer knows you just dropped a sim off in a place that’s not too bad-looking. I can’t say the same for Angelo’s place … which he is very slowly making his own. :O))

Mab is cute … but … umm … are you SURE she’s not “insane”? Hehe. I mean, I don’t get a “run screaming for the hills” vibe about her … but she’s so perky … TOO perky, if you know what I mean. And she talks to teddy bears and pretend mirror mothers. :O} Hehe. But EVERYBODY names there cars. Don’t they? :O))

    The houses she lives near kinda remind me of the Brady Bunch. :O) Neat though. And her patio is sad … very, very sad. :O( I DOES need some plants. I had that same thought. And yeah … definitely some patio furniture that doesn’t look like it was pulled from a street corner. :O}

Can’t wait to see what she comes up with for her Novel of Amazingness. :O> *lol*

    • MAB was telling the truth — she’s really not Insane! At least, she doesn’t have that game trait. Whether she comes across as insane through my writing is another matter altogether. Heh. And I name my cars! So does my mom. I don’t think it’s a sign of insanity, just imagination. ;)

  2. Oh I love it! Sea Monkey and all. The pictures are gorgeous and you have me twitching for more Jenba! We just might survive Sims3 after all :)

    • Yay, thanks, EO! Yeah, I’m having to conform to the TS3 “mold” in order to tell a story, but hey, gotta start somewhere.

  3. Now I miss Sunset Valley even more. Curse you, Riverview, and your ill-met promises!

“I drink tea and wear shoes that tie and do very grown-up things.”

    Very LOL!

    • I still haven’t explored Riverview much, but Sunset Valley is just so PRETTY. I do like the farms in Rview, though. But yeah, I have heard it doesn’t seem as “finished” compared to Sunset Valley. It’s too bad!

    • Thank you, Suzi! She may never make any friends at all if the SV folks don’t come out of hiding. ;)

  4. Her mom sounds like mine. ‘cept mine says do something normal teenagers do. And playing God with virtual people do not count!

I also bought TS3 and I really like. When the intro showed up on my computer screen I was like oooh pretttty.

    Out loud.

I like Booky Bufkin. A little out there you know. Just sayin’

  5. Hey Jen!
Im excited to see whats in store next for Mab. Mab is such a cute name. Like Babs. She should be a waitress!!

Other problem (sorry this isnt extremely relevant)~ My main family DISAPPEARED. Like randomly!!! Ok so on Day 5 of my new family I save and exit and go to sleep. But then, Day 6, I go on the main menu, and all there is of my advanced family that I worked EXTREMELY hard on is impossible to acess. Their family picture was gone, but the name of the family was there. I couldnt click on it and load it though!! Has anyone heard of this? Im EXTREMELY frusterated. I like the new Sims game but I may have to switch back if it does this with all of my families.

Anyhoo just ranting :) GREAT start Jen! ~Rose

    • Your family DISAPPEARED? Ack!!! I’ve heard of families moving out when you’re not playign them, but not a complete disappearance of your selected household like that. That’s awful, losing all that hard work. :( Have you checked on the Sims 3 forum to see if anyone else had that problem? That forum can be a pain but might have something helpful. :/

      • Unfortunately I have checked quite literally EVERYWHERE and have heard no mention of it or any way to fix it. Asilee (http://asilee.com/2009/06/03/list-of-the-sims-3-glitches-bugs/) made a list of bugs and the whole family disappearing thing is on there but there is no hint of how to fix/prevent it. I emailed EA but I’m not expecting a response any time soon. You know how it is. Blechhh im so beyond unhappy ahaha. It killed my interest in the game. BUT after reading that story about homeless sims (if you havent read it yet its a MUST, heres the link: http://aliceandkev.wordpress.com/ ) I am INSPIRED! I shall try try again! And speaking of I must ask… Jen.. how on earth do you take such beautiful pics? Ok my long and boring inquiry is done now :) Have a lovely day!

  6. Meryll is too cool, Jen! Very entertaining to read when I’ve just rolled out of bed. And I love the teddy bear as Muse thing, a lot more creative than my green iguana thing that lives under my bed!

  7. I’m excited to read more about MAB. She looks like such fun.

I LOLed at this, so much:

“Gnomes, what? This is supposed to be a science fiction novel, not Booky Bufkin and the Sorceror’s bleepin’ Stone!”

    Awesome!

  8. I like Meryl, she’s such a hoot!
Love her little home, and her neighborhood is awesome.
I look forward to hearing what she accomplishes

    • Thank you, Ruby! The neighborhood is all Maxis, except for her house. I wanted it to match the others on the street. ;)

  9. Gnomes could be SF! Like, they could come to life & watch TV. Or they could tangle up all the electronics cords like the Gremlins do at my house!

  10. I love her! She’s a writer who talks to herself in the mirror – my kind of girl! Don’t let them call you crazy, MAB! :)

  11. I loved it. MAB is so funny, the Sea Monkey is an incredible name for a car and I suspect Theodore to have a few ideas of is own… I just dislike TS3 game but it’s funny to see it played by other gamers. FOr my part, I’ll sold my TS3 game soon…

    • Sorry to hear you’re not enjoying TS3. I totally understand, though! I have some major quibbles with it, but I was so bored with TS2, it’s nice to have a new game to explore.

  12. She looks like fun, she talks to her theodore and i talk to my paddington. I think i must be insane too, haha. I have not try my hands on sims with insane trait yet, so i’ll be lurking around to stalk MAB. I wish i can have ice cream for dinner every night too( can’t do that my butt will expand)….

    • Hooray for Paddington! And I’m sorry to disappoint you, but MAB isn’t Insane. ;) She’s just a little quirky. I might give her an Insane roommate, though. And yay, ice cream!

  13. Two thumbs up! I always love your characters; they have so much … character :). Lovely pictures. I’ve been wondering when some awesomely good Sims 3 stories would pop up and now my wait is over.

  14. I love her! She definitely has character. I love the voice you’ve given her. This is definitely a great start to a Sims 3 tale. Loved reading this, and definitely looking forward to more!

  15. *waves hello* Hiya MAB!

Heh, at least she recognizes that she LOOKS insane sometimes. *giggles at the Sea Monkey*

She’s so easily distracted. *grins* Good luck on the novel of Amazingness!

*blinks* What’s wrong with always having your nose buried in a book? Back in school, my friends knew I went -everywhere- with a book! Nothing wrong with that.

Hiya Theodore! Hope you’re able to give MAB some good inspiration.

Maybe everyone is still at work?

Boy, she really is very, um, not sure if it’s ADD or stream of consciousness. Man she jumps all over the place though! *chuckles*

That’s a cute little house she’s got there though. And a carport too, nice!

Man, she’s never going to write her novel if she can’t keep a thought in her head for more than 2 minutes. She’s so … chaotic! *grins*

Hahahahah!!! OMG, I need to remember that the next time my mom asks me that same question! *cackles loudly* “I am grown up, mother. I am a very sophisticated woman. I drink tea and wear shoes that tie and do very grown-up things.” Priceless!! *beams*
