The “Official” Release Is Almost Upon Us

Totally cracking up over the emphasis on the word “official”. Hee!

Well, despite the negative reviews and my disgust over the Sims 3 Store, I find myself excited to try out the game on Tuesday. I just want to get my hands on it and see everything for myself. If all goes according to plan, I’ll pick up the game on Tuesday evening, install it, and give it a whirl. By Wednesday night I hope to post a few pics and general first impressions. Here are the things I want to do first:

  • Download Riverview
  • Explore the new options in Create-A-Sim
  • Create a Sim with the following traits: Angler, Green Thumb, Loves the Outdoors, Charismatic, Excitable
  • Turn aging off or way down (I want to take my time and not feel rushed)
  • Build a house for my Sim (can’t wait to play with the build and landscape options!)
  • Explore the town

How about you guys (if you haven’t already played the game)?

By the way, my Sims 3 Community Page is here:

See you on Wednesday!

  1. I am just as excited Jen! I am still optimistic about the Sims 3, even with all the bad comments and articles I’ve seen around the community. I plan on doing the following right away:

    –download Riverview also
–take an insane amount of time in CAS playing around with all the color and pattern options
–explore the pre-made sims (I’ve heard Agnes Crumplebottom is a playable sim now, and that she’s the aunt of Mortimer Goth!) to see the younger versions of Mortimer, Bella, Kaylynn, etc.
–make an Evil, Snob, Neurotic, Insane, Family-Oriented sim (that oughta be waaay fun!)
–play around with the universal neighborhood time to see how it works (I’m thinking that it might make keeping satellite families from legacy challenges a whole lot easier!)

And I’m pretty sure I’ll spend the entire day taking pictures and blogging about the fun new stuff!

    • I look forward to seeing your pics and reading your blog! Your first Sim does sound fun. I’m actually taking Thursday and Friday off of work just to play TS3 (planned that a long time ago, before the reviews), so I’ll probably be playing/posting all weekend! Hah. Unless I get burnt out right away. But I don’t think I will, if some of the more positive reports are any indication. It sounds like if you don’t think of it as The Sims, but some kind of offshoot (like a Sims console game), it can be pretty engaging. We shall see!

      • It sounds like to me that if you expect it to be like the Sims 2 but with better graphics, you’re going to be disappointed. But if you enjoy it for the game it is by itself, it should be enjoyable! That’s what I’ve been seeing with all these worrisome posts from the community. So either way, I’m looking forward to the new features and I’m sure eventually we’ll see some pretty cool CC and mods. I can’t wait to see what you’re gonna come up with too! Especially your houses!

  2. Does this mean you will not be posting anymore about The Sims 2? What about Fran story are you not going to finish it?

    • It depends on whether or not I get hooked on The Sims 3. If it doesn’t lend itself well to storytelling, I might go back to The Sims 2 (and maybe Fran).

  3. LOL! The constant “offical” makes me giggle, which I don’t think is quite the effect they were hoping for :P I’m a bad girl, yes, but I’m still buying it since I want Riverview and well, I prefer buying (honestly, this was the first, and probably the last, time I’ve done it) my games, doesn’t feel quite right if I don’t…

At any rate the game isn’t released here until the 4th which is just in time for my oral exams so I’ll be holding (or trying) off until those are over… Though, that does depend on the date I’m drawn up…

I view The Sims 3 sort of like a side-dish to Sims 2, Sims 3 has some awesome features but I won’t let go of Sims 2 anytime soon. Or at least not until custom content/hacks/something to take away the annoyances come out.

    • A side-dish is a very good way to describe it! I’m actually glad my expectations have been lowered. And who knows, maybe once they figure out how to mod the heck outta the game, we’ll have something really good!

  4. I wish you had a LJ Jen! I just put up some pics of my first impressions as a friends only post. (I’ll swap it over to public tomorrow I just didn’t want to go posting publicly about having the game before it was released). Lol I won’t be downloading Riverview until thursday though when I get my preordered copy (darn july 4th release date here!) so I’ll be hanging out to hear what you think!!! First things I did: 1) make a sim, 2) make a house… THEN I thought about playing. :D

    • Scratch that, I found you again! (I could have sworn you had one but I couldn’t find you on any of my flists). Don’t mind me, I’m just confused :P

      • Ooh, I gotta check that out! And yeah, I only signed up for an LJ account so I could comment on your Sims stuff! :D I don’t have anything posted myself. I guess you can still Friend me, though? Anyway, off to see!

        • I have a LJ account. Will you be my friend? :O)) But I agree with what others have said about TS3 being a “side dish” to TS2. I’m not going to leave TS2 for TS3. I don’t think that will be possible since I don’t think the storytelling capabilities of TS3 will be as user-friendly as TS2. Might only be able to follow one household … which will suck majorly. But … *shrug* … still looking forward to playing. :O) So … my plans:

          – register my game to download Riverdale (or was it Riverview)? Hehe.

          – download TS3 no censor hack. *rubs hands together with glee*

          – enter CAS and create my sim-self.

          – Plop her into … probably Sunset Valley and have her explore. MUST EXPLORE!!! :O)

  5. Yes, I think playing it yourself is the best way to judge, really. :) Honestly? Despite the fact that there are things I don’t like about it, despite the fact that it doesn’t feel quite like an ‘upgrade’ the way Sims 2 felt from Sims 1, it’s still growing on me and I am finding that I DO enjoy playing it and DO enjoy some of the new things. And I’m still going to trek on down to Best Buy tomorrow to collect my pre-ordered copy. And I may or may not have taken the entire day off work for, er, medical reasons. Hee. ;)

I look forward to hearing what you think about it, Jen!

  6. I haven’t read any of the negative reviews and stuff so far (mainly because I can’t find any reviews =[ ) but I’m super excited for the game. I think regardless of every other feature, the new traits feature is bound to be exciting :D

  7. Well, I’m off to a great start with the Sims 3. And I would just like you to note the extreme sarcasm in that statement. The Sims 3 broke my computer! Lol, my brand new computer froze seconds after the installation screen started going. I had to do a hard restart, and when it came back up it says it is missing a certain drive or something and can’t start. The computer is now in the shop being fixed (for $100 might I add).

Like I said, this is a great start…

Hope you’re having better luck, Jen!

    • Oh no! :-/ I’m sorry to hear about that, Mandie. $100?? Holy cow. You should make EA pay for that! Ha. Well, I hope you have a better time of things when you get your computer back from the shop. Darned game!
