A Little Bit Giddy

Rico and I job-hunted like maniacs this afternoon, all from the comfort of our own home. It almost didn’t happen — we couldn’t get the newspaper away from Dad because he was still working on that danged crossword puzzle. Then Rico had the unusually brilliant idea to check the internet. Go, Rico!

Franchesca Diaries

We found 5 “Help Wanted” ads in the Teen section of RiverblossomHillsGazette.com and applied for ALL of them. They were:

    – Nursing Home Attendant at Riverblossom Home for the Aged
    – Paintball Attendant at Grubby’s Paintball Field
    – Golf Caddy at Chip’s Putt-Putt (why you’d need a caddy for mini-golf, I have no idea)
    – Ambassador’s Intern (this had no further details and sounded very mysterious)
    – Record Store Clerk at Wandering Music

Rico is hoping he gets the Ambassador’s Intern job because it has the highest salary (72 smackers a day) and it’s sort of in the political field, which really trips his trigger for some reason. As for me, I totally want the record store job. I mean, come on! What could be cooler?

I guess that’s another reason for my giddiness tonight. I can just picture myself behind the counter at record shop, pricing old Paradimes albums while blasting the latest Llama Mama CD over the store speakers…man, I would LOVE that.

Anyway, it was odd, because while I was telling Rico about my little record shop fantasy, he got this faraway look in his eyes…

Franchesca Diaries

…and I thought he was blanking out on me, which he was, in a way. But then he snapped out of it and said, “I just remembered…I gotta make a phone call. Later, Flan.”

I usually respond to “Later, Flan” with “Toodles, Custard”, but I was too dumbfounded this time around. You see, I had a sudden flash of a hunch that he was going to call Joel. I mean, who else would Llama Mama make him think of?

When I got downstairs, sure enough — he was on the phone with Joel.

Franchesca Diaries

They were making plans to meet up at Skate Nation, and they were including Joel’s sister, Alicia, in those plans. They were not, however, including me. My heart wilted a little.

Just then Rico glanced at me in that nonchalant way of his and said into the phone, “Yeah, I suppose she could come along. We’ll see you there.” Click.

My heart bounced around inside of me, suddenly rejuvenated.

Joel had invited me!

JOEL!

I hate to get all stupid and giddy over a boy, of all things, but I just think he’s the cat’s whiskers, you know? I was dying to tell him all about how I found the Llama Mama web site and watched a few of their videos. I never have a chance to talk to him at school, really. So this was it.

  1. Aww…Fran and Joel, skating in the rink…bless her. :) I really hope they get together, they look so cute already! Where did you get Joel’s clothes, by the way? I vaguely remember Ron Ravelo wearing them once. Sorry to be a bother.

I’d love to work in a record store! I hope Fran gets that job – but knowing her luck I bet she and Rico will end up switching jobs, which really blows.

    Cool update! :D

  2. Hey Jen (or should I say, Fran) Great Update as usual! This is my first time commenting. Any how, is the skating rink a hack, download, or what? I have every sims game except for Seasons and the stuff packs, so I was curious.

  3. Hi. great update. I hope that Alica and Rico doesn’t ruin Fran and Joel’s reltionship coz they look so cute together.

    Keep Simming

    See ya

  4. GREAT UPDATE! I forsee a few love songs in Joel and Fran’s future! ;) *The Love Boat…*

  5. sooooooooo cooooooooool!! hey can sum1 giv me da code 2 university pleeeeeeeze! my best m8 lost it on me shez new 2 da wonderful world of simz! {allysmartcarthy@hotmail.com} xxx

  6. Great update Jen! The skating rink has become one of my favorite items! It is so cute to see sims spinning (and falling!) around. I think Franchesca and Joel are absolutely adorable together! Maybe next update we’ll see their first kiss?! I’m just as giddy as Franchesca!

  7. A+, Jen! Do you know how rare it is to read about ‘youth love’ that’s not one hundred percent saccharine with a few drama bombs? :D This actually read realistic, like she’s secretly furiously scribbling down ‘Fran + Joel’ everywhere but keeping her cool in public. I really like it.

  8. Oh that was awesome Jen! I hope Francesca ends up at a record store promoting Llama Mama’s new album (due out soon!) The skating rink was very cute. There’s so much new stuff to play with, isn’t there? Awesome. I loved it.

  9. Oh Geez… if what amalinaball said is true… I don’t want to think about it. What if they get all the jobs??

Frans’ dad is such a loser!!! Crossword puzzles?? Ferocity?? Sure, sure.

I love Joel!! He’s absolutly perfect for Fran, but I didn’t know he had a sister… and what was up with her and Rico??

    Keep Simming!!!

  10. Ooooh I can so see what is going to happen now. Fran wants the record store job but will get stuck helpin’ the old folks out at the nursing home. That would be hilarious. And her dad is being a slacker! He needs to get going! Can’t he see his whole family is trying to help but him? Uh oh, a budding romance. I think that Alicia and Rico will have a love-hate relationship, and Joel and Fran will have a witty, talkative relationship (Gilmore-Girls-ish?) Anyway, I really enjoyed that update, it was great!

  11. OOh, this is Wonderful. I can’t remember if I asked before, but I do know that I was thinking it, but what eyes do you use for these stories? I’ve been searching and I gave up because I get easily distracted, but I’d love to use those same eyes.

  12. Yay Jen!!! I really hope Fran and Joel get a little closer next time…;)!!! I love this story line, and I can’t wait to see if the baby is a boy or a girl…being in Paris with a 6-hour-time difference makes you confuzzled and tired, so nighty night for now…can’t wait for the update!

  13. Oh Jen, I love it! It’s adorable. Oh, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I found you were going to build a record store so you can take pictures of them hanging out in it, either! If you ever do, let us know–I’ve been trying to make one and I’m looking for downloads to use. :D

Anyway, I love the update and I love your sims. Fran is the cat’s whiskers, indeed.

  14. I love Fran! The shots of the teens at the skating rink were great! It’s awesome how they have skates with their high heels/sandals. You rock, Jen!

  15. Hi Jen! Sorry for not poking my head in for ages but I have been away for the last five weeks so barely anytime to even update my blog. I am loving the Francesca diaries so much… they are seriosuly awesome and so so funny. Got me loling in the office more than I should be =). I really love your writing style… Francesca kind of reminds me of Fleur from “My life is a toilet”. I love her sarcastic way of telling her story. And I love Uncle Elvis… how hilarious… poor guy not only is his name Elvis but his girl ran off with a mime. I just loved the line a few posts back about how at least Elvis would actually do the dishes rather than pretend to =). And the karate cat is supercool too.

  16. You ARE a great storyteller, Jen. :O) I’m loving how this story is told from a TEEN’S point of view. We more often than not get things from the adult’s point of view … even when they have kids of their own.

Joel is so sweet … :O)

  17. Thanks so much for the comments! I’m late, but to answer a few questions:

amalinaball – Ha, I totally forgot Ron Ravelo wore that shirt once! Wow, you must have a photographic memory. The shirt is from the Sims Boutique.

simlover – I think someone else might have answered this already, but the skating rink is a new object in Seasons.

Eva – I use the eyes from Siluettasims. Unfortunately they’re not available right now because she’s moving to a new host, but I hope she’ll be back up and running soon…
