In my last Legacy Challenge: University update, Mia Shanley graduated summa cum laude from Sim State University and transitioned into an adult. A yellow taxi van showed up and whisked her away to…
…an empty lot! Actually, it just put her in the Sim bin, and then I put her on the lot, but that doesn’t sound as cool, does it? So here’s Miss Mia on her ginormous 5×5 lot, in the same spot where Shanley Manor stood (I liked that particular spot, so I just moved Shanley Manor down the hill a bit).
“No house, no job, no food…who cares, I’ve got video games!”
Yes, Mia whipped out her handheld video game and started playing right away. This was my first clue that Mia’s legacy was going to be very different from Nia’s. I remember good old Nia really struggling through these first few days — she was stinky, uncomfortable, lonely, and borderline insane (hence the visit from your friendly neighborhood Sim shrink). By comparison, Mia’s first few days were a like a trip to Disneyland.
Before I did anything else, I bought a computer and had Mia search for a job.
“Aw man, I hate all these pop-up ads…”
Her lifetime want is to be a Captain Hero, so I was hoping to find a job for her in Law Enforcement. And hey, what luck! There was a job in the Vice Squad for §686 a day. That’s a level 5 job, halfway to Captain Hero already. Dang, that was way too easy. Maybe I’m crazy, but I was kind of looking forward to struggling with shack life and low funds for a few days. It puts the “challenge” in Legacy Challenge, you know? I probably should have started out with a brand new CAS Sim.
Anyway, enough of my complaining. Here’s Mia’s little shack:
And here’s Mia jammin’ out to her MP3 player. She doesn’t even need a TV! But I bought one anyway so she could work out and build up her Body skill. I didn’t have to buy her a phone, either, because she already had her cell phone. Legacy founders these days are so spoiled. If Nia were here, she’d be saying, “Back in MY day, we didn’t have fancy gadgets to keep us entertained! We had to read BOOKS! And make paper airplanes!”
“What’s that, Nia? I can’t HEAR youuu…”
That very morning, the squad car arrived to take Mia to work.
“Coffee and doughnuts, here I come!”
After that I left Mia for awhile so I could focus on getting Marcel graduated from college. I wanted him to have a degree before he moved in with Mia. So I spent the better part of a day (seriously, it took FOREVER) just getting through his junior and senior years. It was slow-going because I had something like 7 college students living at Hoh-Cham-Hoh, and since I didn’t want any of them to fail out of school, I had to make sure they did their assignments and went to class and wrote term papers and UGH.
Chase and Sandy graduated before Marcel, so I moved them into a house together in Mt. Geneva. I wanted them to be around so Mia could still call them up and stuff. When Marcel finally graduated, I threw a party for him and invited Mia over.
“It’s so much easier to hug you when you’re not in the llama suit.”
I totally cracked up when Marcel became an adult and was wearing the overalls. I forgot those existed!
“Hey guys, let’s have a hoedown!”
Marcel ended up in the Sim bin, so I merged him directly into Mia’s legacy lot. After I did this, I had some doubts — it seemed all too easy. I got §20,000 from Marcel, and Mia didn’t have to bother inviting him over and asking him to move in. Not much challenge in that. I read the rules over a few times to make sure I wasn’t missing anything, then posted on the TS2 University Legacy Yahoo! Group asking what they thought. Nobody seemed to think it was a problem, so I guess it’s all right. *crosses fingers*

OH, G2, how great!! I love the updates on the Shanley’s, they sure grow on you don’t they?? And yes, it IS pretty easy, my founder lived in a pretty house once future husband moved in. Where is the time they started out in a shak??
Kewl Beans!
Funny how those NPCs end up in those llama suits. My gal Laura who was a cheerleader came onto the Moonlight lot dressed in that llama suit instead of what she was …the cheerleader. Hey at least you don’t have any weird hair color. As my g. 3 twins got black hair from who? I don’t know ..guess I’ll never know LOL. I’ll say it came from Laura’s great granpop..shrug.. can you tell I still feel jipped about the hair color? :)
Plus your Marcel looks exactly like my Damion who I have pegged as the sire for g.4 heheheh. My g.3 heiress is still a child but is already best friends with the llama guy. Here’s HOPING I get some more blonde genes in my family line again ..yeah right!
Looking forward as always to read the next installment :)
hehe I love the name, Niadon, lest we forget the G1 Shanleys^^ Congrads on G2 (or G11) This is goign to be an interesting legacy. In a way this is easier I suppose becasue if we move someone in straight away we have that extra cash to build up everything eventhough after 5 ppl from college are in the house you get a point docked off cuz it inflactes the funds, but it gives the family a really good headstart. But There’s probably many challenges to come along the way.
Hahahaha! That shot of Marcel in overalls was great. They seem to be an amusing pair, it’ll be interesting to see how they handle parenthood! With the way those sims love their handhelds, the poor kid will be wailing and Mia will go, “Sshhhh! I’ve almost beat my high score.”
I miss the days of having a shack and struggling. It seems to go by so fast. When I attempt the Uni challenge, I don’t think I’m going to go through college… just so it’ll keep that ‘challenge’ element to it. Plus, it gives me an excuse not to build an actual house for a few generations. ;)
Yay! Great post, it’s almost comforting reading your Legacy posts, brings back the memories of Shanley Manor, how are they all doing anyway? Delaney is adorable! I’m looking forward to seeing what she looks like when she’s a bit older. Remember to take some pictures this time, Jen! :P ;)
Oh, and just to start the ball rolling, I have a couple of name suggestions! You’ll have to start a new list! Anyway, I like the names Saskia or Savanna for a girl (I’m using them in a story I’m going to start soon) and maybe Trent or Marc for a boy, I’m not so good at boys names! Anyway, looking forward to your next post! :D
Yeah, the challenge is not quite there when you have a degree that will get you a high paying job in almost no time. I’ve been kinda bummed since my sims ave bought just about all they could ever want and I’m not even on generation four yet!
Hey Jen, great update. Sorry your sims are not struggling enough. :-D
Anyways, can i add names too, Evelyn; Shiann; Tre; Darien; James, Nicky.
I know not very interesting but i thought i would give some ordinary names in there.
Looking forward to your next update!
Happy simming
Sign me up! I love reading about your sims. You just have a way of bringing me into the whole situation with you. I look forward to reading more about the Shanely’s. ;o)
Ah, meditating sims. They make the world go around! Either that, or they make it stop and contemplate.
Hee. Pia. What about Chia! Gotta go with Chia! Ch-ch-chchia! :D
Man, though, Mia’s legacy has really taken off running– it took me, like, a generation and a half to get to the point they’re at! XD
Great update! Mia, Marcel, and Delaney seem to be getting off at a great start! I’ve been contemplating on how I want to start my University Legacy Challenge. I think since I’m so close to finishing with the Palomas, I’ll start with the 10th G heir. That will definitely be cool. Anyways…I can’t wait to see your next update!
I just love the pictures of Mia when she is playing her handheld or listening to her MP3 player. The look on her face is priceless. Lol.
I am so easily amused. Ah, well. Great update!
Hi Jen! I’m back! I’m so happy you got the expansion pack…I really wish I had the money to get it but right now I don’t know…
I love seeing your new challenge though…I’ve put my Legacy Challenge on hold for awhile…I’m having too much fun with my Monroeville characters right now.
Hello Jen, i hope it´s everthing ok with you, because i really miss yours fantastic strories.
Heidi – Welcome back! We missed you! I commented over on your blog. :-)
Susana – Hi and thanks for your concern! I’m doing fine, just took an unexpected vacation from The Sims 2 and my blog for a bit. I’m back now, though, and have a few updates in the works. Stop by again soon.
Hmm. Maybe I should look to see if Pia is actually a name somewhere…
